Top Games of the Decade What are yours?

Since every site and their mother is currently doing these lists, I thought we should get one going too! Which games stood out to you? Can you even remember all the way back to the heady innocent days of 2010 (*does some quick math, damn I was older than I thought, which means I'm even older now!*)?

I'll start, these are the games which spring to my mind first, and therefore probably left the biggest impression on me. I've numbered them, but actually they're in no particular order:

1) The Witness
2) The Witcher 3
3) Life is Strange
4) Horizon: Zero Dawn
5) No Man's Sky


Edit: Somehow I managed to leave The Last of Us off that list!

I have played this game every day almost for the past 2 years. I'm not a pro gamer, I play with my friends and until very recently have enjoyed it. I am convinced they have secretly merged PC and Xbox gaming because of the way people nowplay in game, the super fast edits and builds but before that when it was console vs console, the game was so good. You cannot deny the money it has made and it's only made that through popularity. It was free to get as well. They've done so well with it.

Witcher 3 was such a good solo game and I think about it now. Other mentions would be Fallout 4. If only I could have gotten that settlement achievement. It really bugged me for ages.

Skyrim too, that was great. No vehicle game for me, or sport game either. Fifa and ISS pro are dogshit nowadays. All about the money. ( I have not spent a penny on Fortnite except the very first battlepass). I spend more on Clash Royale and Clash of Clans.

Games I spent the most time on this Decade:

1) Rocket League
2) Skyrim
3) Warframe
4) No Mans Sky
5) Sea of Thieves

Games I would judge as the best of the decade, regardless of the amount of time I spent:

1) Warframe
2) Skyrim
3) Titanfall 2
4) Divinity 2
5) Rocket League

I really like both NMS and SoT, but they needed many updates to get up to where these other games were. Warframe somehow transcends this in my mind, maybe because its Free? Not sure.

Skyrim and Destiny 1 (and 2 really), and I'll add in Stardew Valley as well.

There's going to be a lot of repeated, many already listed, but one I don't think many here are fans of. And just based on pure success of how well the title has sold- Grand Theft Auto V. I played the hell out of GTA Online and still dabble in it today.

[EDIT] Oh, I won't forgive myself if I don't mention Dying Light. I doubt anyone will mention that title. It's excellent and I'm looking forward to Dying Light 2

2 was in 2010 or 2011. 3 would have been after that.

In descending order

Bloodborne
Witcher 3
Mass Effect 2
Dark Souls
Warhammer Total War 1 & 2

No game resonated with me quite as well as Bloodborne in the last decade. It's in my all time top 3 without a doubt. And I suppose all my top 4 games partially found their way to the list because of the special way they made me feel. There are scenes in the Witcher, not the main story beats, but the smaller stories, that I will remember forever. Mass Effect was a revelation and a completely unique experience to me, which was sadly somewhat mangled by how Bioware decided to solve the knot they'd made in ME3. The less said about Andromeda the better. The forlorn and lost feeling of DS comes back to me every time I hear, or remember, the music.

Warhammer Total War is the game I've dedicated the most time to in the last decade. It is a strategy game that never ceases to grab me. I still haven't played all the Legendary Lords, even though I've clocked roughly 500 hours distributed between 1 and 2.

I've found that I don't like the way Rockstar writes their stories, since at least GTA4. By the time you reach the end of the game you'll realize that none of it made sense or was necessary. In RDR2 they state that Dutch is a great lleqderu but nothing in the game actually shows it, making the story ridiculous when you're playing over a hundred hours of a game where Arthur himself accumulates more money than the gang ever dreamed of.

Why wouldn't bad karma Arthur not just kill Micha early on?

Then you have the frustrating bounty system that again makes no sense and ruins the fun. Accidentally bump elbows with a pedestrian? STOP CRIMINAL SCUM! A TELEPATHIC MESSAGE HAS BEEN SENT TO ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT! Want to do any kind of outlaw activity? Better kill everything in a ten Mile radius and burn your clothes or you've got yourself a bounty.

Want to upgrade anything? Okay, ride all across the map, shoot a random animal or two, ride all across the map and pray to God you don't bump someone's elbow or the physics gods throw you skin onto a roof. Then do that a hundred times.

RDR2 is an extremely well made and utterly tedious game.

Ok, thanks, that made it clear. Will see if I can bring up the patience. Never played RDR1.

Rocket League is pure fun with surprising competitive depth; easy to hop into and hard to put down. Easily my number one.

I'm not a huge Dark Souls fans but I think it's place in gaming has been pretty undeniable.

More broadly, I think the quality of the retro/2D/indie scene on one hand - and the rise of microtransactions on the other - stand out to me as defining trends from this decade. Terraria, Bastion, Binding of Isaac, Shovel Knight, Cuphead, Stardew Valley, Celeste, Hollow Knight... suffice to say that it's been a great decade if you don't mind pixel art.
