You would think that since Tatts is the one to have initiated the combat himself he would have left some orders for it when he put his action in...

Tatts. You should have brought a second fighter and had them absorb the hits first.

Tatts has made a very good point - I don't think Direct Hit can be used on PDS fire as Space Cannon Offense is part of the movement phase, and the Direct Hit card specifies that it has to be used during a Space Combat round.

Direct Hit can definitely be used during Space Cannon Offense.

The reference thread says it can only be used during a space combat, which might be based on an old ruling. But currently Direct Hit is meant to be playable no matter how the hit is assigned - by ships, PDS, or abilities.

Basically I sent two PMS. The first directing which ships I want hit in what order. Then the second post to amend that due to pds shots. I assumed direct hit cannot affect ships pre combat pds fire. Sustaining a hit on dread. However due to possible direct hit involvement I assigned dread second to last in hits in the combat phase as it is my most potent weapon. IF direct hit could be played during pds then my initial order, fighter, cruiser, dread, carrier was to stand. I just assumed Blend would be on the same page rather than type it all out.
Apt is the only one who reads this. Apt is nice.

I did take the wording from the reference thread.

Direct Hit killing on PDS shots has come up in at least one previous game here, pretty sure it has come up in 2, and the discrepancy with the actual card text was noted then, too. Thoguth we all knew by now that the card texts we have aren't quite exact

Well this is a mess. It could be argued that the reference thread takes precedence over rules as written, since there's a lot of house-ruled stuff in there like objectives and strategy cards. On the other hand those changes were intentional, and this one probably isn't. I wonder how our esteemed galactic council will solve this?

The background here is that when we ran the first TI4 game here we didn't have a proper list of AC texts, only a pretty-close table we copied from another website, and it's never been updated properly. We do have a proper list now, so Blend at some point could you switch over (and update the reference thread)?

Did a quick search, and it looks like we played with the inaccurate text up to game #2, but then discovered the difference of the text in game #3. Guess we never updated the reference thread at that time, though, and a Direct Hit was never played during space cannon offense during that game or since so it hasn't come up since then.
Anyway, it's Blend's call as to how things get resolved here.

Alright, so because the text on our Direct Hit says what it says, I'll allow Tatts to take the PDS hit on his fighter as I believe that he would not have taken the hit on his dread if he knew that a Direct Hit could be used.
Once I am done resolving and catching up on a map update, I'll go through the reference thread and such and update the action cards accordingly.
From this point forward, a Direct Hit CAN be used on PDS fire.
