Finished the book last week and was a bit underwhelmed. Sorry Too many conveniently vague things floating around for my liking (and not the GotM kind of vague - which I loved). For starters, what are Harrow's powers? Pal's? What can they do? How can they do those things? Lots of seemingly made-up words thrown in when the two talk. I think I came across psychometry once. Too much of a seat-of-the-pants vibe for me.

Found the world dreary and that's coming from someone who is marching bravely on to Horus Heresy book 50 next.

Gideon's final fight with the million-tentacled thingy was ... cool, I suppose, but not something I could buy at any level.

Didn't hate the book but thought it was over-hyped.

I finished this and really enjoyed it. Agreed with Abyss and needed a reminder on the handout to remind me of people. Audiobook narrator was ace.

I can see it suffered from the hype train. As for people's view on vagueness/slow reveal and world building I guess we need to see whether Muir pulls it off. I'm sure people levelled similar criticism of SE back in the day.

Gideon isnt dead. She had some other powers that weren't revealed. I.e. being able to see the energies of the constructs. Not dying from the nerve gas as a kid also suggests more than a spike needed to kill her to me.

Wish I hadnt seen the name of the book to end of the trilogy as I'll be looking out for that name now.

My copy should be here tomorrow, fingers crossed it has the black edged pages. I refreshed my memory by reading the Tor.com re-read of Gideon and the short story on Tor.com by Tamsyn featuring two characters from Gideon when they were younger. I can't wait!

Shouldn't be all that difficult to find the corresponding can of spray paint at the hardware store. parts = <price of can spray paint> / labor = $150 USD / + s/h. So around $160-$175 price range. Extra, but yes. I have all variety of stencils. And I have a 3D printer, so you are only limited by your imagination. But it will cost extra. PM me and lets negotiate.

I feel like the alt timeline - with Ortus replacing Gideon - can only lead to a time travel resolution. That's fine, i'm enjoying the book, i trust the author, but part of me just dislikes when that trope is brought out to 'fix' something.

Hoping for something a bit more elaborate.

There is some kind of alternate timeline, or memory, or something, playing out, where Gideon doesn't seem to exist and Ortus remained Cavalier and accompanied Harrow to Canaan House for the story from the first book.

Which is interesting given Gideon's unknown origin being from outside the 9th House, and having survived when Harrow's parents killed all the other kids.
