I’m amazed he lasted this long. I know almost nothing about him except that one controversy after another keeps popping up. Wouldn’t this be the second sexual assault claim? His past girlfriends have described him as volatile and abusive. He has made homohobic remarks, misogynistic remarks and blamed both on PTSD and alcohol problems. The Nazi tattoo story, I don’t know how believable or not his story was regarding his ignorance. On the one hand the tottenkompf isn’t a swastika, on the other would a tattoo artist give you such a tattoo without explaining it? Would most tattoo parlors even have it in their books? Again a past girlfriend says he knew.

The one thing we can seemingly be sure of is that he leaves an impression on his ex girlfriends and they don’t like him. This can’t have been the best candidate the dems could find?

So, it might seem that Maine Democrat Senate candidate, Graham Platner, is done!

Platner allegations of rape!

Shame on Politico for only referring to it as "sexual assault" in the headline... it's textbook rape, and the body of the article calls it rape.

Why can't polical parties like vet a candidate remotely?

Surely it wasnt hard to see all this?

Hopefully he gets charged for rape

This is my issue as well. Like for gods sake dig into these dudes past if you're going to hang hopes on them that they will actually be better than the rapists already in power in Washington and not just more of the same unstable evil men!

Parties don't function like that here, at least formally. The Democratic Party didn't select Platner, and doesn't necessarily select anybody -- though you can often tell the preferred candidate of the Party establishment. Essentially if you wanted to run for office, you could do so under the mantle of any existing party, or no existing party. At least during the primary election. In the California primary for governor this year, there were several dozen candidates all vying as Democrats. In Maine, Platner was the dark horse candidate, gained traction by campaigning, and then won the primary election to represent the Democrats over other candidates seeking to represent the Party in the general election. It was a selection by voters, not the Party. The DNC's preferred candidate was Janet Mills, a former governor of Maine, but she dropped out for financial reasons as Platner ascended as the preferred candidate among voters. There are nuances to how all this functions, and I'm not saying Parties are powerless, but the above is basically true.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
