Why they didn't just get new show runners in who would actually dedicate the time it needed and deserved I don't know, fuckers ruined it.

The answer to that is probably never going to be known to the general public. I speculate that contracts are involved and getting a new set in would make profit sharing complex enough to not be worth buying Benioff and Weiss out to do that.

I'm absolutely fucking horrible at putting my thoughts about shows/books/movies into words. So I use props.

Also, cant wait for the spinoff "Arya, West of Westeros!"

[Edit: if a brand name emerges again, as it did for Starbucks---which got free advertising estimated to be in the billions---my bet would be on paid product placement, getting around the 'how to do product placement in Westeros' conundrum.]

Sure, I'd have loved to see a twenty episode last two seasons where they had the time to put everything in place without rushing, but as we didn't get that, I actually think they did pretty well with the ending given the rush job enforced.

The rush job wasn't 'enforced' on them---they chose it. HBO offered to renew them for up to (at least) 10 seasons, a full season 8, etc. They apparently wanted to do movies instead.

Oh okay, I thought I'd read that somewhere, implied something to do with budget or whatever. Can't say I've delved that deeply, but clearly not deeply enough in this instance!

Arya's boat was flying the 'House Stark" flag. So is that suggesting she has the backing of the north and is maybe going to look for lands to conquer?

Also, if it's six kingdoms now and the north (Starks) are autonomous, what banner flies in King's Landing? A new one? Maybe a Three-Eyed Raven sigil? dunno, would be neat to speculate though.

Also, does the small council really require a 'master of whisperers'? Bran can just warg into whatever and see for himself what is going on, right? Of course, someone with the background and experience on all things espionage might need to be there to advise on how best to act on what Bran 'sees'. Maybe that 'small council' scene was there for comic relief after all the heaviness that just occurred? And so should not try to read too much into it?

Regarding the Night's Watch, nobody believed in the White Walkers before anyway, so I presume they remain a penal colony. That it was subterfuge to get Jon to the real North was kinda cool. I am satisfied with his ending, however botched I feel other elements (like pacing or uh basic storytelling) were.

I dunno. I've enjoyed this season more than most but this was just a ponderous episode of nothing. I'm happy to accept that all the main characters get a sort of "moving on" scene where we can see what they are doing from this point onwards but on a show that's known for shocks and violent deaths I was definitely expecting more of that. Arya hours for Dany who kills get and is then killed by John, that kind of thing...

Eh. Seemed like it ended with a whimper rather than a bang. Felt like getting to the final character moments could have been a lot more exciting.

The only good thing this season was Dany dying. But there's still one smuglet too many left alive for this to not be worst timeline.

most of the issues i had with this have already been mentioned, but just to add:

So every time a king dies the great lords and ladies will meet to pick a new one?

Yeah.

that won't POSSIBLY cause numerous civil wars in the future as the great houses all jockey for position.
Nope.

Not a one.

Ooooooh. Hmmm. Well I'm happy with John's ending. Not sure about the rest. It did feel like reading the epilogue at the end of a great fantasy series - it's all bittersweet because it's an ending and you really just want to go back to the glory days of binge reading.

(PS3 Now TV app to the rescue. Had to brush off the dust, install a really slow software update and reset 2 forgotten passwords. Modern living is a perilous existence).

Bran is going to be a tree like the guy before him, so civil war is going to happen much sooner than his death.

So which bit was worse, Drogon burning the Iron Throne or Arya telling Jon confidently that she knows a killer when she sees one while literally standing in the ashes of Dany's war crime?

The latter. The Drogon thing was cool imo, even though I'm enjoying the jokes too.

They take all of Jon's weapons when he goes to see Tyrion, but mysteriously she is all alone with Jon while he is fully armed.

Since there's no sign of the dagger becoming Lightbringer, it would have been more interesting if he'd killed her by pressing her into the blades of the Iron Throne (call back to past mad Targs cutting themselves on the blades). Then maybe Drogon is Lightbringer?...

What a stupid waste of tine of a last episode. Bran as king is stupid, a peaceful resolution with the dothraki and unsullied bullshit especially with no one dying.

And apparently Jon returned from the dead to do nothing, kill his aunt and then go away and live out his days.

Just bleh. But at least Bronn is fixing the brothels
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours
