Wait am I missing prayer beads from vendors in early game? I’m fairly sure I would have noticed that but maybe I didn’t. I can’t buy anything from them anyway thanks to rot and I ain’t curing anyone anytime soon with my die rate till hopefully a steady cure source opens up.

once you kill the Bull

Spoiler

I must agree, the Temple is a VERY pretty. level. The monks are bastards though.

I'm hitting a bit of a snag, as I'm pretty sure I've run into bosses on almost every path now.

I managed to get past Stage 1 of Butterfly, and then I died horribly. I think I'll focus on killing her tomorrow. AFTER I grind enough money to buy everything important from the Mt Kongo Mob.

EDIT: you can still buy stuff from vendors with rot. But if they had any "quests" you can't complete those while they are sick.

I can still buy stuff from them even when they're coughing?

Got about 4 dragon blood drops now, finally used one after Senpou temple centipede, but after an hour without rot I've found another boss.

BK there are a few mini bosses around the castle and outskirts that drop prayer beads. Also some hidden in chests.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Holy shit this game really opened up. I have no clue which way I want to try to go. Been going a bit in each direction from the bridge after Bull. In a dungeon now. Creepy as fuck. On my toes

I've generally been exploring every way until I run into a boss/mini-boss. Then I back off and try to go a diff. way.

My goal for the next two days is to kill Lady B. Hopefully I get an attack boost out of that, and then I can try tackling some of the other bosses.

So I tried to take on Lady B again. My best go at her by far and I could only get her down to half health. She is a beast.

I then went through the Resviore (yeah I know I’m spelling that wrong but I give zero fucks about that) and gloriously fought my way past many enemies until I approach an incline with a house and Spear Dicks big brother,

Was awesome. Going to be fun.

Lol. Welcome to my life.

If you follow the dungeon, you can find a very pretty location with a lot of spear monks. Good place to practice Mikiri and jump counters, and they drop loads of XP, money and Buddhist candy

I didn't find anyone awful in the dungeon. Just a guy that wants me to bring him someone to 'experiment on.'

Mind you I haven't been back there, might have missed something.

Take shuriken for Lady B. Hit her when she flies up. Then hit her with sword when she lands.

Have you both found the prayer bead in the house just before Lady B? There are two guards in a corridor - right behind them is a picture. Hug the wall there and it opens up.

I found an ape that is chucking balls of shit at me.

Shit. I figured out how to stagger Lady B, but I'm out of Snap weed. I JUST got the 2nd Shuriken upgrade, too. dammit.

EDIT: killed the general with the 4 gunmen in Ashina, fought past the Nightjars on the roof into the tower and found another bead (and a gourd seed) there. Need just one more to get more health. Think I'll try to nail that spear guy tomorrow. Red Sugar is pretty wonderful.

You don't need snap seeds.

Keep attacking and she can't summon. If she does, like if you're healing, run round the room following the walls. Her posture doesnt come back straight away. When the ghosts turn to butterflies, get a pillar between you and them, and hold block - they won't do any damage. Then go back to hitting her.

Coolio.

I'll still try to get another health boost before fighting her though- I'm only one bead away, so killing the Spear general is probably my best move right now.

Did you fight the guy down the hole, near the npc that can hear music? You can drop through the hole to do one damage, then beat him up for the other one. I think he had a bead.

Actually I haven't been back there either so I wonder if that npcs story will continue.. haven't found any music playing anywhere yet.

Spear general can be crept round for stealth death blow too, I think I kept attacking and sidestepping, that spear is awful otherwise.

Actually my new strategy for a lot of these is slashing away until they wind up for an attack, then deflect away while their posture soars up; then finish them off.

Ichimonji double is an awesome skill btw - it costs NO emblems, it cuts right through them, AND you get your own posture back!
Worked a treat for Genichiro.

I’ve never once used items besides gourd.

I got the guy in Ashina who had 4 gunmen with him down to 25% health. Took a step back to apply the red sugar. Meantime he started doing the self-heal thing bosses do sometimes.

I waded in and hit him maybe 3 times and suddenly I was doing the deathblow animation. I thought it was a glitch, tbh, but I wasn't gonna complain

I use the posture boosting sugar occasionally - any boss fight which is deflect heavy like the centipede blade guys which is pretty much 95% deflection.

I got some eel items to help with lightning damage, but in that fight with Genichiro you dont have time to use it without getting skewered, you can't even heal. Use those wealth and possession balloons when farming exp though, then spend the Sen on emblems and purses.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Spent about 7 hours bashing my head against various bosses. got reaaally close with the spear dude a few times, but my best was still 3 hits short.

finally decided to take a break after a few hours and gave the purple ninja in the reservoir a bash. killed him in smth like 5 tries, levelled up my health again.

Figured it was time to try Lady B. Ended up wasting all my candies on her, closest I got was about 1/3 of her health left in Phase 2.

Since I'm broke (no EXP and no Sen) right now, I figure I might as well keep bashing at her for a few days- I made a rule where I don't use a gourd or resurrect until I get to Phase 2.

Oh, and I think I saw the skull guy BK was talking about- he's in the dungeon right below the reservoir. Behind the purple ninja's corpse (once you beat him) there's another entrance into the dungeon.

Only 3 Dragon rot statuettes so far. I have a blood drop and there's another one for sale, but I'll hold off untill there'5 or 6 chars to heal at once.

That dude is intimidating as fuck to me. I’ve only had the balls to go down there that one time. I ll happily try to take on Viagra and Katana over that asshole. Got a bad feeling it’s my next Blazing Bull. I didn’t even land a hit on him on either life.

if he's a ghost then you need to eat the purple candy (divine confectionery) to hit them.

my intimidating boss right now is a knight with an extendo-sword. I'm planning to avoid him until I've dealth with Lady B and the Seven Spears dude. Maybe also the purple ninja in Hirata, though I don't think that's a boss.

I don't remember a purple ninja in the reservoir - I do remember looking down into a really dark area and thinking 'nope' and going a different way. I found one purple guy in Hirata, and one down the hole where you start the game.

Also I didn't fight Headless. Did you find him yet? There's a really crappy cliff jump bit just after first General, down a walkway past a sign, where you can leap off a branch and ledge hang immediately after you fall. Then shimmy round the side to a cave.

That's the only control in the game I have issues with - that jump up and ledge grab. For some reason I jump up, miss the grab, and fall down. There's a bit down the sunken valley where theres a massive drop down if you miss, I fell down it so many times.

Lol. You START the game in the reservoir... we are talking about the same guy.

Yeah, I know the cliff jump. If you don't jump into the hole where the undead are, but climb out of the cave on the other side you can unlock a shortcut- a side room in the rafters overlooking the place where the Ogre was chained. So you don't need to do the leap of faith again.

Haven't been back there after dying once, b/c I didn't want to waste the purple candy

Edit: finding the
Spoiler
temple also involved some crazy leaps of faith... but thankfully there an Idol there, so you don't have to do it repetitively. The way to the knight is annoying cuz I have to fight those temple assassins on narrow cliff ledges. Probably one of the reasons I haven't gone back there often.

You can jump over the only assassin on the walkway way there, there's a branch over his head. That knight is a pain though - just because of where you need him to be for the death blow.

But yeah don't ring that bell! I don't know about any demon, but it makes the whole game more difficult! The bosses become tougher, your posture goes up quicker etc.

I don't really need that at the moment.

Yeah, once I'm done with my current targets (Lady B, purple ninja in Hirata and Seven Spears), I'm gonna farm exp to unlock Flowing Water before I go deeper into Ashina Castle (those samurai are a pain when they mob me) or face the knight.

Staying away from any dungeons/undead enemies for the time being.
