So, anyone getting this on release?
Last time From messed with the Souls mechanic, we got Bloodborne.
All I really know so far is that it's not an rpg as no character creation; there's a skill tree instead of weapon levelling; and Sekiro has a prosthetic arm that can hold different tools like a hook-shot type grapple. And, that they designed the game around a fluid, dynamic movement mechanic.
I've avoided gameplay videos until now, but from what I've read it has enough of a change to make it into a new type of game, as different to Souls as Bloodborne, maybe with even more of a departure.

I might play it eventually but the souls games don't vibe with me and this looks like more of the same. Perhaps even more punishing with the resurrection mechanic.

I'll be getting it day one. Just because I've loved the Souls series since Demons.
And Myazaki is responsible for all of them bar DS2, which was definitely the weakest of them.
They just have a tension and investment that keeps me hooked, and wanting to go back for more.

I'll wait for reviews to tell me if it's playable with mouse + keyboard.
If it is, I'm planning to pick it up within a month. Need to finish Metro Exodus and play Onimusha first.
Of course if Bloodlines sequel actually releases tomorrow, all plans may be scrapped.

I ordered this a while ago. Huge fan of Miyazaki and the Souls Bourne games. I won't dive into it for a couple months yet, but it will be finished and luxuriated in.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

[Edit] Just scanned through the review threads on Reddit (which links all the major/significant game sites' reviews). Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is scoring rather high. I may have to pick this up.

Mines in the post... should be here after work tomorrow. Might just avoid all reviews since I'm getting it anyway, and go into it fresh.
What I have seen is making me want it more.. much more punishing than Souls? Better combat than Bloodborne? So much more challenging it's not even funny?
I wants it! Better clear some space on the hard drive.

Beautiful game so far.
I've only really done the intro, but it's a lot more beginner-friendly than previous soulsborne games. It lets you pause, and there's a sort of undead guy that lets you practice attacks and defence with to get timings right.
Which is absolutely essential in this game. The parry move from Souls is now a major aspect - instead of Stamina, we have Posture, with its own bar. Keep hitting or countering to break posture, then you get a chance to one-hit kill. It feels really different from the old slash and block, with balance and timing being key.
Not so much whittling down health, as knocking out of balance, and then finishing. So the tougher bad guys I've met have more than one health bar; you have to do two killing moves on them. And this is just the intro.
I just spent some time in the first area getting the timing right, as I was waiting too late to block and getting hit, and once you're hit you lose Posture and are open to a death blow (you can roll out of the way to regain it.) The window for the parry is actually bigger than in Souls but you have to do it earlier. Anyway, its kind of vital.
From what I've been doing though, you can outright avoid enemies with stealth. You can take to the rooftops, kill from above, then hook-shot back up and hide. You can ledge hang, hide in grass, and creep past dogs and guards. And you can't grind souls for power, as there aren't any, so you dont feel obliged to kill everyone to level up. So I've been practising the hit and run. It's all so smooth.. and the scenery is amazing. DS and Bloodborne look good but it's all grim stuff. This landscape is something else.
It's so odd to have an actual character that talks and interacts, and a full story instead of the broken hidden lore of Souls. Got the kids all day today but looking forward to playing again later.
