New ICE prequel trilogy

Over on his website, Steven Erikson has written about the upcoming Karsa trilogy. While discussing the backstory of the Malazan Empire he lets slip that ICE is working on a followup trilogy to Path to Ascendancy.
But no matter what I did with [Gardens of the Moon], the backstory was always going to be huge, and could only be hinted at (Cam Esslemont is right now in the process of filling in that backstory, with one trilogy done and another on the way).

What would it cover?
The conquest of Quon, Tali and Unta.
Falar
Seven Cities, including raraku story line, Aren, the original Y'Ghatan
Genebackis
Initial Korel invasion by Greymane.
By itself, invasions dont seem like much fun.
Where would the spice come from?

Hey, D'rek is supposedly a big worm.
Coincidence?
...I THINK NOT.

I do wonder how he will go from being unworthy of commanding the T'Lan Imass to have them rise and slaughter Aren.

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that the Imass went a little rogue & wild in Aren, not necessarily at the command of kell?
In the language of flowers corn stands for trust.

Based on how his first "attack" went, I would expect Aren was caused by them getting ticked about something and doing it on their own, then the Emperor covering it up to say he did it. The three things that get Imass angry #1 the scent of ice #2 ancient beings asserting dominance on new races (the Protectress, the undead Kell Warriors being answered..."in kind") #3 people disrespecting them (Tool and Mok, and every conversation a bonecaster had, ever).
Spoiler
I suspect it was not the way people thought at all--something went terribly wrong. Just like every scene in Aren.

I'm keen for the D'rek = Shai Hulud too, especially if it means Tays = Leto Jr.
Because having an amazing mage isn't enough, let's make him a semi-immortal god emperor!

Pretty sure Kellanved has the God-Emperor angle covered
And yes, I also think Kellanved never ordered the Imass to do anything. He just sat on their throne, and then did nothing with it. Noone knows what he CAN do with it, so they are careful indeed around him, but Shadow is the only throne he fancies.

That's exciting. Though I hope we either get longer books or at least that he manages to trim the varying storylines.

Mallick Rel brought peace and order to the Malazan Empire. It's only fair he (presumably) gets his own book.
