So,
so,
so...

Seeing as I actually did ok on last years I've decided to make some resolutions again for this year. but 2 lists, one the usual broad spectrum stuff and then a smaller real, stroke that item of the list target based list.

Broad strokes:

Get fitter, not fatter (also work on flexibility, I can barely touch my knees let alone my toes)
Eat healthier
Drink less
Get better at money
Attempt transitioning out of site work into something more workshop and creative based
Take more time for myself, stop taking on projects that eat up weekends
Continue learning German

Definable targets:
Get finance sorted for the driving range
Get driving range built and opened
Complete conversion of shed into apartment
Convert Garage into a bar for sisters wedding
Build fro scratch and sell a piece of furniture (for a profit)
Upcycle something and sell it on (for a profit, and not just fixing up a trailer)
Submit a picture to the advent calendar
run a 10k
get my golf Handycap below 20 (ambitious given how little time I'm going to have until June)
Good reads target - lets try 60 books again - I will permit rereads this year as I missed my Legend fix last year - 40 must be new to me
Convert old shed in yard into a proper workshop
See Rome

I don't do resolutions, I just have an ongoing list of things to get done that gets added to through the year.

My major goal this year is to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in July, and raise as much as I can in sponsorship for the charity who provided my counselling in the process.

Other than that it's less measurable and more just a general keep working on moving forward, keeping up the good habits and letting go of the bad ones. I'm still learning to manage my anxiety and the after effects of the trauma, but really I'd just like to be able to say this time next year that I'm further along in learning to deal with it day to day. Come at me 2019! :(

I'm gonna try to become less happy-go-lucky, more of a Debbie Downer.

Resolution is to get better at saving money, I'm thinking of getting a bigger apartment for myself. Also I need to (yeah yeah, I know) get back into working out regularly. 2017 was a good year for that, but I really slacked off in 2018.

I've got to do something about the hours I work and levels of stress it inflicts. I don't understand it as on paper I have an extremely cushy set up - I'm home based so no commute apart from 1 day a week when I go to the office, my contract is 4 1/2 days per week condensed into 4 days so I can spend one day a week with the sprog. So much happened in 2018 in our industry and our business that I've done lots of 5 day weeks and a bit of overseas travel which means the whole childcare/part time working juggle has been constantly crazy and I was working lots of late nights and a grumpy bitch every weekend. The amount of change in the industry and my experience means I could probably take the leap into consultancy and work for myself but I'm kind of scared to. I like a regular income, paid sickness and holiday especially with having a small kid so it's not the right time but I have all this accrued knowledge that I could be selling for my own benefit rather than a company that ultimately takes me for granted. I'm very frustrated. If I can just get my working hours under control...

Hmmmm, I think I want to learn the piano. Or the harmonica.

You could get one of those harmonica holders that goes around your neck, then you could play both at the same time!

Nope nope nope, not happening. Also if I do piano I refuse to sing while playing. I have a hard enough time coordinating both legs to walk down the street. 3 things at once is definitely not happening. Or at the mostest that can be a 2021 resolution.

I don't know. I've got this long list of sensible reasons why not but if it worked I'd be on the road to picking and choosing when I had to work. I meet a few consultants when I'm visiting clients and they all say they only work 6 months of the year. It seems incomprehensible to get there but then I realise I know loads more than them about the changes in our industry just by virtue of what my job is and because I'm younger and have had more exposure to the fancy new tech out there. I think I'm too chicken to leave PAYE employment. Mortgage, pension, what if I want more maternity leave etc etc etc.

Consultants brought in from outside generally get paid a hell of a lot more than people on the cards. The caveat obviously being the security, sick pay, yada yada ya.
But I've been self employed most of my working life so that doesn't phase me, I guess it's what you're used to as well

Broad strokes:

Get fitter, not fatter (also work on flexibility, I can barely touch my knees let alone my toes). MINOR EFFORTS MADE EARLIER IN THE YEAR BUT THIS IS A HARD NO
Eat healthier - A DEFINITE YES
Drink less - HMMM, YES OVERALL
Get better at money - YES AND NO, FINANCIAL SITUATION IS PROBABLY WORSE AT A MACRO LEVEL DUE TO PROJECTS BUT BETTER OVERALL IN MY MANAGEMENT
Attempt transitioning out of site work into something more workshop and creative based. - SMALL STEPS, HAVE CUT A DEAL TO GO DOWN TO A 4 DAY WEEK STARTING IN FEB
Take more time for myself, stop taking on projects that eat up weekends - UGH, JUST NO ON THIS. NEXT YESR CANT BE AS BAD AS THIS YEAR
Continue learning German - INTERMITTENT BUT SOME PROGRESS

Definable targets:
Get finance sorted for the driving range - DONE
Get driving range built and opened - NOT DONE AT ALL, DELAYS, WEATHER AND NIE AWKWARDNESS HAS SLOWED THIS DOWN, AN AS A RESULT IMPACTED MY FINANCES AS I AM CURRENTLY SUERVING THE LOAN OUT OF MY OWN POCKET
Complete conversion of shed into apartment - NEARLY, WE'LL BE IN BEFORE CHRISTMAS, BUT THE PROJECT WONT BE COMPLETE, SEE FINANCE AGAIN, THIS HAS COST A BIT MORE THAN EXPECTED
Convert Garage into a bar for sisters wedding - THIS WAS EASY AND DONE
Build fro scratch and sell a piece of furniture (for a profit) NOPE
Upcycle something and sell it on (for a profit, and not just fixing up a trailer) NOPE
Submit a picture to the advent calendar NOPE
run a 10k NOPE
get my golf Handycap below 20 (ambitious given how little time I'm going to have until June) NOPE HAVE PLAYED BASICALLY FUCK ALL GOLF THIS YEAR
Good reads target - lets try 60 books again - I will permit rereads this year as I missed my Legend fix last year - 40 must be new to me AT 45ISH SO FAR, DONT THINK I WILL GRT TO 60, BUT LEGEND THE ONLY REREAD
Convert old shed in yard into a proper workshop NOPE BUT HAVE STARTED, GOT A NEW CONCRETE FLOOR POURED (SEE ALSO FINANCE, THIS IS COSTING MORE THAN I EXPECTED)
See Rome - NOPE

A mixed bag for me.

Headline would read financial control much better but more debt accrued, mixed progress eslewhere
