i just got an urge to give some names i think would be good in a movie like this, however it will be impossible due to financing Posted Image

Dominic Purcell i dont care who cause i love his parts.
Jason Statham as a soldier...dont care who but som cool dude Posted Image
Tim Abell as another soldier.
Sam Elliott i love his role in "we were soldiers".
Mads Mikkelsen as Tristan i really liked.
Christian Bale is another cool actor.
Michael Clarke Duncan.
Colin Farrell.
Gerard Butler.
Seann William Scott.
Peter Stormare.
The Rock, in a roll where he has one line in the entire movie.
Bruce Payne.
Jeremy Irons.
Jessica Biel, well thats just cause i think she´s very hot. But maybe as Blend or Apsalar/Sorry, however they might not be in this movie.

Well i apologize if i named someone that already has been mentioned.

It just seemed like a good idea at the time Posted Image

I think Coltaine could be played by the guy from Troy. The REALLY big one that fights with the spear through his leg or whatever.

Good one edge Posted Image!

I was just wondering and hoping that the casting gets done well. Hopefully aswell as or better than LotR. I was really sceptical at first. I had my own images of how the characters looked, but when I saw the movie the either got it spot on were just damned better. So good luck casting ppl Posted Image.

PS - i have a very specific image of mappo and if it ain't right? Let's just say Icarium's anger would be dwarfed Posted Image. . .

PPS - I hope that scene with the sappers captain in it. You know the one with the pro/demotions in it with Coltaine. One of the best moments in the book. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

I was thinking the soundtrack could be an awesome mix of LOTR type emotional music, and some amazing metal tracks. For some reason I just see it working. One track I was thinking of was something along the lines of Undeclinable Amuscades' I'm already burning. The lyrics work with it as well! I know it isn't metal, but Finch have got some good songs which would go, as do Blindside. A healthy mix of the two genres could work wonders.
Could also sound crap, but you never know!

I for one would love to see someone with the balls to make a movie with a dark ending! Happily ever after is awful, goes away from the books as well! Besides, it is only a small part of a bigger story, and viewers would realise this. MAKE THEM HUNGER FOR REVENGE! MAKE THEM HUNGER FOR.... CHAIN OF DOGS 2: BACK INTO RARAKU

NZ might be a place to consider, there was a good bit of fancy film stuff in LOTR...

If you talk about Troy, I thought Eric Bana did great as Hector there. I don't know if he would be tough enough to play Coltaine, but I'd really like to see him play a part in the Malazan world.
Sean Connery as Duiker would be fabulous, no doubt...

Btw, being an extra in the movie would really be the coolest thing... where do we sign up, Patch?

I think the movie industry might find that people like sad endings. Well, not exactly like, but empathise with. It's more like real life after all.

First off, I wanted to say hello. I am new to these boards and am looking forward to many insightful discussions regarding this most amazing of literary undertakings.

Now to the topic at hand, I must admit that I am a little disappointed in the scope of this movie as a whole. It occurs to me that leaving out so much of the story, not to mention the entire first book, is a bad way to visually represent the works that SE has provided us. I agree that this is probably not possible; given the financial strains and concerns this would create. But, other books have been treated to as much, and I just feel that the world that we have all come to know and love is deserving of the highest treatment possible.

Any ways, a couple of posts above, El Guapo mentioned Val Kilmer for the leading role of Duiker. I admit that he might not be the “mostest correct” choice for the role, but I do like his thinking. This movie, if done correctly, can be a huge money-maker, which means more capital and, more importantly, industry “pull” for any future films. Having an “A” list actor such as Val Kilmer play the role of Duiker would pack the theaters. I also admit that Val Kilmer is a one of the great actors of our generation, never limited by trivial things such as age.

To the responses to his post suggesting others actors: I would hope that this movie is not limited to English actors. If it is however, I would like to suggest Eddie Izard for the role of Coltaine (hehe).

Seriously though, I like the idea of creating movies to coincide with the books. And, I know I am tilting at windmills for hoping it to be more. That said, I will take what I can get, and make sure I see it on opening day.

I thank you and am sorry for the long post. Please feel free to comment…

EDIT: To El Guapo: "Yes, I would say that you have a plethora of pinatas."

what is it with you folks? I haven't made the first one yet and you're debating the sequel...

What do you take this for? Anatomy class?? Posted Image Don't for one second expect that this should be just one story dissected from the Malazan series and made into a movie. We've already struggled with you having selected CoD instead of starting with GotM where it all began....we can appreciate the epic scale of SE's conception- after all, we're not unreasonable! Posted Image But I, for one, am already heckled in my sleep by visions bearing the word "pre-quel" so please don't get me started Posted Image

Surely you can't expect to end it there?? What: Kamist Reloe and Korbolo Dom march off into the victorious sunset?? We're reeling, like sappers having lost their munitions, at the thought of how Raraku's going to work.......

And could you tell us if the members of the nice little (for some parts a wee bit fanatic *looks at Tiste*) community gathered on this forum to Posted Image SE's work might get a chance to sign up as extras...erm...please?

Vin diesel may well be hot, but I'm talking about actors here, not jumped up models trying to look tough. He cannot act to save his life, and in every film he is just the same old boring character. Mel Gibson, now there's an actor...

I'm sorry, were you talking to me? I'll get my own ninjas to attack and mame yours, and when they finally surrender i'll turn them against you. Then you'll see who h45 c0mpl3t3 p0w3r!

Honestly, Mel Gibson?! O-K, if you think he's a good actor, fine, i wont comment (village people). Fine, i sort of agree with the Diesel bad acting thing, but eye candy doesn't need to act.

@Sha'ik

Well then, I suggest you watch some of the greatest cult classics ever made. In one movie this guy has more and better one-liners than Arnold in all 3 terminator movies.

Look at his jaw it doesn't get more square then that. This guy has everything, screen presence, stature, proficient with a chainsaw and/or sword, adept at puns and good a scarring mideavel villagers. Not too mention he's well known, and he plays in more independent movies. He is perfect for Coltaine and the movie's budget. Besides he's far more manly than Russel Crow or Mortenson. The only other guy on the list (who I am familiar with) that could match Bruce is Sean Connery.

Hate to say it, but it was good to see Nakijo eat "crow" on this one. Posted Image Who'm I kidding, I don't hate to say it at all - eternal cynacism is bothersome.

I'm also very, very pumped about a hockey themed story with Erikson's involvement and obviously seeing anything set in Saskatchewan is a can't miss hit - for its rarity alone. Sweet, sweet Corner Gas. Posted Image I'm curious, where in SK?

And Chain of Dogs is definitely a great starting point. You can't just pick up Garden's of the Moon with it's scope and start writing a screenplay. (Look at Lucas with a New Hope being the starting point because it was the easiest sell and a great base upon which to build.) Let's face it, staying away from corporate Hollywood or not, you still have to create a picture that also entertains people who have not read the books, nor heard of SE.

I would think bout three hours for a film that big. And even then you're looking at lopping off major chunks from the book.
