Chain of Dogs to be a movie!

SE said in a recent interview he knows exactly how MBOTF could be adapted into a movie/s, and that he will wait until a future meeting with a producer to make our (and the producer's) jaws drop. So if it does happen, it will be in safe hands with the master at the helm.

I think that a MBOTF movie should be a new work, that SE and ICE should write a screenplay with a story that isn't from any of the books, that way, now one can complain about this or that being left out. There's a whole lot out there that we don't get to read about, so the options are huge

That. Would be awesome.
Though, I'd gladly pay full admission just to see the Enfilade at Pale on-screen, regardless of how bad the rest of a GotM movie might turn out.
These glories we have raised... they shall not stand.

Agreed. In the end, I'd go to see any Malazan movie, even if it ended up being like these...
Shadowthrone and Cotillion in ... Love, Malazan Style. (A Story of True Love)
Quick Ben and Kalam in ... Lethal Acorn (Old School Buddy Cop Movie)
Ganoes Paran and Whiskeyjack in ... Command Tent Space (A Wacky Comedy)
Anomander Rake and Silchas Ruin in ... Interview With An Andii (Need I say More)
Watch for these, coming to an over imagination near you

I have to agree that I'd rather see an original story for a movie rather than a movie adaptation of one of the books. Honestly, I don't have any idea how they could possibly even make a movie adaptation from the books. There's just too much to them.

too true

"The red ink had been watered down. He painted wash on the map, covering areas now held by the Malazan Empire. Fully one half of the map...the north half...was red. Baruk jumped, his right forearm jerking out and knocking over the inkwell. The red ink poured across his map. Cursing, Baruk sat back. His eyes widened as he watched the spreading stain over Darujhistan and continue south to Catlin..."

The books are only really adaptable via the medium of animation I strongly feel. In that I also believe a more animie/manga style as many books have a far more adult content than a series such as Clone Wars for example (I realise that was used previously only as an example of format rather than content).
A film adaptation, even several films, would leave too much material untold and as we all know Erikson writes everything that is essential...miss one tiny bit...and you miss a whole plot line later on.
Animie has the darkness required for much of the material as well.

Animation? I think "normal" TV series, just with the addition of high quality CGI effects, would be enough. And imagine the face of your friend who's watching the first season (GotM) and You shout straight at his face: "Coltaine dies in the end of second season, gahahahaha!" Oh man, MBotF should be made into TV series just so I could do that.

Yeah, I’m just thinking that a live-action series could be considerably more expensive to do “right”. Besides, we’re talking, if you divide each series by book, TEN SERIES at what…at least 24 half hour episodes?
Possible by an animation studio certainly but (though we’d like it) not really possible for a live-action orientated studio (even someone like HBO).
The other consideration is the characters. Not just effects (magic, environments) but what the characters look like. Casting actors who’ll be involved for several years is likely to be nigh-on impossible but doing voice acting is an “in between” job and far more likely.
Of course, I’m really talking about a series covering all the books from start to finish. I can only see disappointment for fans if its done with CoD as a singular series.

I agree...it'd have to be a TV series. Which would be most likely insanely expensive if done right, and studios nowadays don't like to gamble with their money on anything other than "safe" dumbed down reality programming and other variations of pure retardness. But then again, i'm a cynic! I mean "Rome" got axed after only two seasons for reason of expense! How was that show so costly? They used relatively small-time actor/actresses and didn't seem to have any major effects created. Something that would or could work for me would be something along the lines of the movie "Immortal" where you have a small cast of real actors and a large cast of CGI characters (think Rake, Raest, basically anybody that is a relative "giant"). Still be expensive, but maybe not as much (have no idea really)? SyFy Channel maybe? Be alot cheaper (and look cheaper), but this could be something that SyFy Channel might take on sometime in the distant future, as they seem to be a channel willing to take risks. Or not. Lots of potential here for a landmark series. Heck, you don't have to do one book per season either! GOTM could be probably told in about 4 or 5 episodes, and then move on to a simultaneous DG and MOI, moving from one continent to the next from episode to episode, as they run concurrent anyhow. NOK could be a 90-minute "special event" type show/movie. The Lether-centric books of MT and RG would have to almost be their own seasons though, as there is so much story to tell in those, but really almost anything else could blend together. Probably 6 seasons of TV, possibly a few more once you include the ICE books when they are eventually completed, I would imagine.
Don't mind me. Really have no clue what i'm talking about and just in general ranting here!

I like the idea... ;-) As long as it would be done by a very good studio, and it should be made dark and realistic, so it would be true to the books of SE.
On the other hand, maybe if the directors of Sin City would make a movie of MBotF... I liked that combination of animation and real movie.

Ooo...just thought and hinted at by The Seguleh 46th
..time-line!! Someone would have to sort out the time line so it was chronological and not done "by the book".
I'm thinking the animation styles used for the Matrix prequals and the other rash of prequals done for the likes of Pitch Black and even Van Helsing (bleur!).

Just had a vision of animated, realistic looking, Khundryl (sp??) standing on a wind swept hill, looking down on Coltaine's army before their first meeting.
Awesomeness personified!!

It would take sonething really special to get the MBotF on to the silver screen but I'd love it if they could pull it off. It will be interesting to see how they manage with The Game of Thrones (GRRM), they are filming a whole series based on the first book. Filming starts next month in Belfast. I'm looking forward to watching that..

As far as i understand, they are filming all the books (planning too anyways, unless GOT goes the route of Rome), and simply named it after the first book. But i could be wrong.....

Hmm…thinking of this and whilst I’d just love to see a visualisation of this its just occurred to me that MbotD is perfect background material for a Live Role Play system!
Interesting human races and political systems – check!
Several non-human races – check!
Magic with a sensible theory and limit behind it – check!
Magical transportation (warren travel) – check!
Natural friction between races, countries and political systems – check!
…sounds a lot like most good LRP systems I know.
