@Admin
Yep, that's me. The sceptical (not to mention loud and obnoxious) one
@Patch
Damn right I'll want to read it! I've bought everything else I could get my hands on (including Esslemont's Night of Knives). I'm still working on the short story collections, which was why I asked, because I can't find a list of what any of the stories are called anywhere (except one, written in German, for Revolvo). SE seriously needs his own site to cover all this sort of stuff (not that my life revolves around the web or anything... oh, hang on
). Especially given that the malazanempire.com and his Tor mini-site both revolve around the Book of the Fallen
More questions, eh? You asked for it:
So, who wrote Skinwalkers? Is it another screenplay written by SE, or a screenplay adapted from an SE story or what?
Factory at Capashin is a short story from the Revolvo collection right?
Will When She's Gone be released as SE or as Steve Lundin?
All right (is that the one, Gamet?), I'll stop now. Don't want to scare you too much (although it may be too late (you're not afraid of over-use of parentheses, are you?)
)
@BAD
No arguments here. Just some friendly banter
Actually I'm far more convinced now that Patch has started actually writing real sentences of decent length and stopped being so vague. I don't even need contact from SE anymore, but as Admin says - bring it on! After all, we haven't heard from him in ages (which is understandable when you look at how much he's been working on... especially with this extra stuff Patch is telling us about). Although you have to remember that we have been horrifically spoiled here. I don't think there are too many fan forums out there that have had as much interactive contact with the author they are fanatical about as we have with ours
Not to mention that he seems to be seriously prolific, and hasn't visibly slowed down too much yet

@Tiste: You sure have seen him in LotR playing Eomer.
Vin Diesel = Baudin?(if he's in the movie that is)... why not. But I guess that would be a strain on the budget, as opposed to Karl Urban who's not that great at the moment (as ~Tuftie~ points out).

I'm with Rodeo. I haven't bothered to post on this before, but I've been following the thread
If you read all Patch's posts, he comes across as the typical 14 year old attempting to gain attention by sounding mysterious (no offense intended towards those forum members who ARE 14 - I'm sure you've all seen the kind of folks I'm talking about, whether here or elsewhere). My personal favourites are : i wish i was still waiting to read those stories... (in reference to SE's as yet unpublished novellas) and i have been working on 2 others of steven's works for three years now, and we won't film the first til next summer, so much as i hate it, 'chain of dogs' will have to wait it turn
The first one is funny because no one appeared to notice his claim to have already read the books - I didn't actually pick it up the first time I read the thread. So no one responded at all... The second gets me because I'm curious as to what other of "steven's works" can he have been working on? If they were other Malazan works, surely we would want to know? Especially if they are being filmed before 'Chain of Dogs'. Even if they are other fiction - of which SE has very little, surely the members of this forum would be the perfect folk to advertise this to?
So, no, I don't believe Patch
@Patch
This is not intended as an attack. I just do not believe you. I have indicated my reasons for that. If you can refute my reasoning, please do so. This is the kind of thing that I'd love to be proved wrong on; I just don't think that is very likely to happen

I am! I don't do anything except sit at a computer, and wait for the email to come. My phone is on 24/7 in case he phones me! *rubs the eyes that are now so red, they make bulls charge at them*
For anyone who thinks that I was serious, lets get this straight: I AM NOT! I'm not really that sad! But if Patch, in his infinite wisdom, decides that he wants a Yorkshire lad in the Film (I'm about the same age/stature as Sorno Enath btw Patch!
) then I am ready to do it!

@folken
not necessarily true...the idea is to make films from the books, not make movies of the books...for instance, there will be some new stuff in the movies (storyline, etc., already conceived by SE, but not in the books), the idea being to augment MBotF...as for complexity, Chain of Dogs is written from Duiker's point of view, and as such is not all that complicated...as for the audience not "understanding" the story, give them a little credit...as for length...erm, Chain pans out to 2 1/2 hours so far, and they're nowhere near Aren yet...

No worries, chief!
As I said, I don't want to insult anyone. I just thought I should express how I felt about it

Back @ Cyandor:
Well I accept the reasoning for the Tolkien hype, though I don't hate Tolkien at all. SE's just better, in my view. Also, I think we have to acknowledge Tolkien's novel status. He broke moulds and set a standard that many have been churning out deluge just to copy (notably Weiss and Hickman MUCH to my DISGUST!...ach!!). Anyway, as a Tolkien fan, I declare with objectivity that SE is better. Hollywood and their budget does everyone a disservice.
Of course you have a valid point about a bad production not necessarily being a death-sentence but it is very likely to have a stunting effect. It is indisputable that Tolkien book-sales rose after the LoTR cinema series. These things influence.
About SE's vision though, what I meant is that his conceptualisation of places and peoples seem so detailed....e.g., I have a general idea of what a Jaghut looks like but does anyone have a set picture in mind? Lower tusks sound very unattractive, yet Jaghut aren't necessarily supposed to be ugly. Even the Forkrul Assail.....set picture? "Corruscating waves of sorcery" or Scabandari's "nictitating membranes" may be easier.....well a graphic artist is best guided by SE in terms of accuracy. I'm not saying that SE should be the graphic artist though.
Accepted, I skimmed the thread. Patch is set against hollywood's involvement but I don't see where is has been writ in stone that hollywood WILL NOT be the producers despite enough support from Europe and elsewhere. Money talks in this world. So I'll keep RAILING just to make sure.

Maybe it's just the Agamemnon character in 'Troy' but I agree with Cox playing a grizzly old character like Bult or maybe even Heboric (more reluctantly) but not Duiker. I envision someone with more of an intellectual air- not arrogant but more 'clever' than 'learned'.
Plummer's not a bad candidate actually...just I wonder at him being sexually attractive to a marine....again, makeup does wonders.

Personally I do not want to see Viggo Mortensen in this movie.
As for Coltaine, Russel Crow may work, I mean he is the best inanimate object actor out there, well tying with Keaunu. For Coltaine... We need someone with dominating screen presence and the stature to match. Mortensen imo has neither.
I just had a thought, I forget the name of that noble, but we all know the one, that really annoying guy who kept complaining. He should be played by Bob Gunton (Warden from Shawshank). Almost every role i've seen him play he is always the perfect pain in the butt arse hole. He would be a perfect noble.
