Hello everyone,

i am creating card game based upon Deck of Dragons. I have some basic thought how it could look like, but i need permission from you = artists, that draw so many amazing paintings and draws about malazan´s book characters. So please, who is willing to grant me permission to use your paintings for this game? I am not doing it for money, but for fun and because i wish to have this deck. For everyone who allow me to use his draws, i will send you complete deck of cards in electronic form so you will be able to print it and play it also.

For inspiration: This is first card that i make but without permission from its creator Mrakobulka(I hope she allow me to use it, and many other draws that she draw for High House of Light).

Would like to raise some issues with the list above.
The deck is not supposed to be a constant list of characters; different players often swap in to a role in a house (for ex. the queen of chains). It is also sometimes customized to the location. Different decks will also miss some actors (i.e. they are not in play at the time).
This list above of the High House Light is a mix that never existed.
In fact I am not sure the deck even existed at the time of FoL. It might be a later creation.


From a game perspective, you could create a game with certain houses left out. pick among multiple contenders for a card, remove some players in a house if needed.

Using characters for the cards that could exist at the same time in the deck of dragons could be a good idea. Maybe adding some people to the houses to fill empty slots that have some connection with a house, but were never mentioned to have a position. Like L'oric. I also think that Saeng would most likely be the priest of High House Light.

In terms of number of cards per house only Light, Dark, Life, Death and Chain have roughly the same number of cards.

How do you like characters that i added into Houses?

Interesting ideas. In some cases I would object, as the characters don't fit the house from their connections or because the already were assigned a role in the books. Also the warrens connected with the houses sometimes don't fit.

Based on the warren of the top god of the house i would assume:
HH Dark - Kurald GalainHH Light - Kurald Thyrllan
HH Life - Thyr (Thyr has also a connection to Mockra)HH Death - Hood's PathHH Shadow - Kurald Emurlahn, Meanas, Rashan (Shadow is a mess)HH Chains - Has its own warren, probably a fragment of Kurald EmurlahnHH War - Beast Hold or a modern version of it
In the case of holders of different positions, I would stick with characters that are still around at the beginning of the the MBOTF. If they survive the books shouldn't play a role in the selection. Making anyone else aside from Anomander Rake the Knight of Darkness feels wrong, as an example. Also it would be important to avoid spoilers for readers that haven't finished all the books.

But you could also try to build a new structure for the deck, based on the other ones with King (Togg), Queen (Fanderay), Hunter (Treach), Herold (Toc Anaster), Magi (Setoc/Run'Thurvian). Other possibilities are Mortal Sword (Krughava) and Shield Anvil (Tanakalian), maybe by other names. The House actually has a champion, although he only appears in HoC and tCG. The enkar'al bull trapped in the body of a Toblakai from fortress B'ridys (https://malazan.wikia.com/wiki/B'ridys_demon). He doesn't have his own article at the wiki
