I'm tempted to get a PS4 for this. I'll get one sometime, it's just a matter of when. I still have GoW3 sitting on my shelf though.

Yeah, the music in general is fantastic. I may even buy the soundtrack.

Did you finish climbing to the top of the mountain? The snow effects are almost as good as the music!

I've just found out who the Witch in the Wood is and had to drag myself away!

The game is so funny when Atreus starts taking the piss out of Kratos with the random dialogue lines, totally cracked me up!

Yeah, did that then went off and did a couple of side quests.

Spoiler

Fighting two ogres, battering one into submission then riding around on its back and using it to pummel the other one into the ground - that's never going to get old.

Haha yeah that spoiler had me totally cracked up.

It's the little interactions between Kratos and Atreus that really make the game special.

I thought that::

The ogre smash was great too, reminded me of Shadow of War!

Yeah, the game is good about introducing truly magical, fairytale like qualities into the world.

By the way in regards to that boar, it made me speculate about who the witch is.

I am still early in the game but I think she might be a goddess: Gyldenbørste is a golden boar that the two dwarves made for the God Frej in the Danish telling of the tale. Frej was the god of fertility and harvests and brother to the love goddess Freja.

I think the witch might be Freja.

I've no idea how far through the game I am. I'm level 5 at the moment. I've just:

But I have to say, I've yet to find any part of it less than thrilling. It's a joy to play. Even when I get my arse kicked it's always fun, and I always feel like I'm making progress.

Favourite fights so far:

I've also got the option to go to:

I might stick my head in there later and see how difficult the enemies are.

I was under the impression that her dialog with Kratos left no doubt that she is a god/goddess. Doesn't she say something along the lines that "they are aware of your presence here" or something like that? As to which god/goddess she is, I don't know.

Her knowledge does not suggest she is a goddess. Witches and Warlocks are often portrayed as being people of great knowledge and wisdom. Great power as well.

Make sense. I guess I just interpreted her having knowledge of the god/goddess' awareness meant she was one of them. Maybe by the end of the story all these questions will be answered? (probably not though).

Been playing a ton of God of War this weekend and the past week and yet, according to the IGN walkthrough I just checked, I am still only half way through the game. Good god this game is long. I mean, it's elongated somewhat by me obsessively hunting for collectibles and doing side quests, but maaan.

At this point in the game I think I have everything I need to go back and unlock chests and the like that are blocked by power or skill related stuff. I am tempted to start back-tracking but I have run into some heavy duty lvl 6's here and there that I don't enjoy getting one or two shot by. I think I will wait for a few more weapon upgrades.

I just had my first encounter with Dark Elves, which happens right after finding that switch between the realms wheel thingy. So I'm guessing I'm barely even through the game. I've been playing on the second highest difficulty level (Give me a challenge) and whooboy, some of the battles I've been in have been frustrating. Like Dark Souls frustrating, cept I don't have to go all the way back to the start of the level and work my way back to fight again. I set the level down a notch for one fight that includes the floating eyes and various Dragurs. Set the difficulty back after defeating that group.

I've been trying to upgrade as much of the boy's skills with the bow because I think him getting stronger will be a great lift of burden doing all of the work in battles (especially with multiple and varied beasts).

Yeah, the trip to Alfheim is just the start of things. I've probably played 15 hours more than that, at least, and the game just keeps going.

I put a lot of xp and money into the kid as well. He really helps when things start to get hairy. At this point I can just spam square and out right kill some things or at least chip away at their health. I've finished many a foe with Atreus while Kratos was on the brink of death.

I recommend doing some serious scouting of the lake area. You'll find some much needed upgrades here and there.

Also, I found out if just sail around and ram the barrels and floating corpses you can gain a ton of money and gold. And the gold can be sold for more money. When you set foot on land, the stuff in the water respawns, so you can do quite a bit of grinding early on if you like. It's useful for those few purchases and upgrades that don't need resources just lots of money.
