They've been under performing for the roster that they have. Now that Hexy is gone, an article came out saying he went way overboard micro-managing the team. It's a really interesting read.

I was in the fire Hakstoll camp. I'm curious to see if under a new GM the team starts performing better.

https://www.crossing...on-hextall.html

Gritty is a dumpster fire for awesomeness! When I first saw the press release I thought, "Oh hell no!" I have to admit, the PR around him is brilliant. He's like those creepy burger king commercials from a few years ago. You just want to see what going to happen next.

Oh damn that is interesting, didn't realize he was so intense. Having spies in the locker room is super messed up, or controller the players equipment and diets is a terrible idea, you want your players to trust the team and feel good not think everyone is spying on them.
We'll see what happens without him i guess.

I think Gritty's hilarious, that first game when he wiped out over and over was great (still not sure if it was intentional or not). I'm sure lots of young flyers fans will have nightmares about him.

Yeah, I think he actually fell down.

There are some great intermission shenanigans:

He's been more entertaining than the Flyers so far. I hope the team turns it around soon.

Ha that's amazing! By far the best (and most terrifying) mascot around.

Have you read Gritty's backstory? It's pretty badass.

Is this it? Cause it is pretty funny

His father was a "bully," so naturally he has some of those tendencies - talented but feisty, a fierce competitor, known for his agility given his size. He's loyal but mischievous; the ultimate Flyers fan who loves the orange and black, but is unwelcoming to anyone who opposes his team. Legend has it he earned the name "Gritty" for possessing an attitude so similar to the team he follows.

He claims that he's been around for a lot longer than we know it, and recent construction at the Wells Fargo Center disturbed his secret hideout forcing him to show his face publicly for the first time. He has some oddities that are both humorous and strange. A number of times he's been caught eating snow straight from the Zamboni machine, and unbeknown to most, his love of hot dogs has been inflating the Flyers Dollar Dog Night consumption totals for years.

That being said, there's no denying that he's one of our own.

Yeah, that is it. I love the "He's been around a lot longer then we know it ...." blurb. It something that ignites the imagination in the 8 year old child we all have inside of us. Scary, but yet something about it that makes you want to know more.

They burn with the intensity of a 1,000 googly suns!

The Leafs continue tearing up the league, which is nice. And now they've got back whiny bitch Nylander so that should be even more interesting, damn this season's exciting.

It's been so long since they were good...

Flyers just lost 7-1 to the Jets. This is going to be a long road trip.

Flyers are still losing. Coach switched up the lines to give us more depth. Our big weakness in the young defensive core and less than stellar goal tending.

Giroux was moved from wing back to 1C which bumped Coots to 2C. Raffl has been streaking, so he got pushed up to Line 2. Provorov isn't playing amazing like the last 2 years. Ghost is more of an offensive-defensman. Hagg is solid, but still young. I really don't understand why the team likes AMac so much that they made him an A. He's slow, makes average plays, and has a sizable contract. Sanheim is young and still making rookies mistakes. Gudas is fun, but does some stupid stuff and takes bad penalties.

JVR - Giroux - Konecny

Raffl - Couturier - Voracek

Laughton - Patrick - Simmonds

Lindblom - Varone (up from Phantoms) - Weise

Provorov - Gostisbehere

Hagg - MacDonald

Sanheim - Gudas

Stolarz

How's JVR doing so far this year? He was one player I wish the Leafs could have held onto, he had such a fantastic season last year but I guess it made him too expensive with all the signings they have to do in the next few years. It's a shame for the good players who stuck around for all the shitty seasons getting traded when the Leafs are finally doing better

He's only played 13 games. He's been on the 2nd line with Nolan Patrick and Jake Voracek. 7 point so far, nothing special. Hopefully being on 1st line with Giroux and Konecny will get him more points.

Ah I see. He had something like 36 goals last season, he played fantastic. Hopefully it's just a matter of getting accustomed to a new team and he get's back into it again soon.

He should settle in fine. Being out 5-6 week with an injury hurt his numbers. He had a PP goal against Calgary the other night. We need him to parked it right in front of the next and clean up the trash. I don't think 30 goals is off the table.

Leafs are looking good. That Matthews kid might a future in the league.

So after a crazy Sunday listening to the rumor mill, it's now Monday.

Hakstol is still coach. Maybe after the holidays there'll be a change?

Carter Hart has been called up from the Phantoms. I'm worried he's not ready, especially with such a crappy defense in front of him.

Edit that. Hakstol is fired. Scott Gordon, the Phantoms coach is interim coach for now.

Winter Classic was neat the first time or two, but is really gimmicky IMO.

I really enjoy the Winter Classic, especially when it snows. Brings back fond memories of when I was a wee lad out on the frozen lake with my brothers and friends, chucking it around, and just getting up to all kinds of aggressive shenanigans. Then there was that one friend, who's dad actually built him his own frozen hockey rink he could shush around in during the winter months. So much fun when it snowed (or was about to). That electricity in the air, and the snap of the cold, rosy red cheeks and jack frost tickling the nipples.

Yeah they've had a fantastic start to the year. Matthews definitely has huge potential, as long as he can stay healthy, he's been hurt a bunch the past couple years. But when he's not he can do some amazing things. Marner has been fantastic too, his passing and skating game is ridiculous.

I usually enjoy the winter classic if they're teams I like. I like the hawks so I may watch for them but I hate boston with a passion.
It's definitely fun when it snows, just not too much or it gets a little crazy, when they have to keep clearing the ice off every five minutes.
