Yo! @Gintokian! NHL training camps open in four weeks. You feelin' the buzz my dude?!

You better believe it buddy, I'm super pumped for this season. The leafs got John Tavares and this seasons going to be super exciting! They may actually be able to make a run for the cup.
What was your team again? Vegas or was that just for the playoffs?

Penguins. Although, I would definitely root for Vegas if they get there again.

Didn't follow too much regarding what moves the Penguins made in the off season. I sort of remember reading they lost a key player.

I love the games the are played outside. I know there is always one on New Year's Day. I need to look up when the others will be played.

Yeah there are usually a few of the outdoor ones, but not all teams get to play in them. There was one last season or the season before where it was snowing like crazy and they kept having to clear off the ice.

Those are the best. When it's snowing, and you can tell there's a certain electricity in the air. And the goalies are wearing tuques on top of their helmets.

Yeah for sure. So it looks like Boston and Chicago will be playing in the Winter Classic on New Years day and Philadelphia and Pittsburgh will play an outdoor game on February 23.
So both outdoor games should be pretty good games from the teams playing, looking forward to them.

Is there a way that I can change the title of this thread or is that something only the forum overlords can do?
Seeing as the new season's starting soon and it's not the 2018 playoffs anymore...

Also big news, Ottawa traded Captain Erik Karlsson to San Jose for a bunch of lower level players and draft picks which is a huge deal, should be interesting to see which side this trade favours.

Great! Thanks fellas I changed it now. Although it's usually just the three of us talking in here (and sometimes Abyss) maybe we'll get some more this year.

Las Vegas traded for Max Pacioretty from Montreal too, which is pretty huge for them. The East gets weaker again.

Yo @Ginny! My homie with an extra chromie! You pumped my dude?! Regular season kicks off tomorrow with your team welcoming in those dirty snail eating frogs from Montreal.

My guys open the season on Thursday by welcoming the current champs into 'sburgh. I'm confident we'll send them home with an L.

Hell yeah man, I'm pumped for this season, the Leafs had a great pre-season so I'm expecting big things! (although we've been let down before)
Having Tavares for this season is going to make our offense ridiculous, although the defense is a little shaky but we'll see. Montreal trading Pacioretty was an interesting move, I don't think they'll be doing very well this year for which I am very happy.

Washington won their cup last year, their top players are getting older I don't think they'll be as good this year, I feel like Pittsburgh should be able to beat them soudly.

Wow, the reigning champs really poured it on the Bruins (7 - 0). Makes me happy because I can't stand Boston professional sports teams.

@Ginny Your Leafs turned the blowers on the Canadiens in overtime and blew those frogs back to Montreal with an L. Nice start to the season.

Yeah I saw that, Boston getting destroyed always makes me smile. I guess I was wrong about Washington slowing down, that was a ridiculous game, and Boston's not a terrible team to be blown out that badly.

Yes it was nice to send those french bastards back, especially since we haven't won a home opener against them in 5 years. Although the Leafs did look a little shaky at times during the game, couldn't get the puck out of their zone for the life of them.
But the offense looked great and the powerplay is ridiculous. One line is Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Kadri, and Reilly. Three of them were over 30 goal scorers last year and Marner had a ton of points. One of the most dangerous powerplays in the league for sure.
It also seems fitting that Matthews got the first goal (and the last) and Tavares got his first as a Leaf too, gunna be a fun year.

What days are games on? Arizona v Dallas is on.

It's not like the NFL where games are played on specific days. Usually a team plays every other day or so. Saturday night is a big game day so most teams play then.
If you have a specific team it's worth it to look up their schedule to see when they're playing, or if you just want to want hockey in general there's usually games on every night.

They're doing some international games this year (there's one coming up in Sweden I think) so there may be some wonky times that a few games are played.

Yo @Ginny, my buddy with a little nubby. Did you see my boys win against the reigning champs? That was cray cray.

Also bummed to see the Vegas Golden Knights lost their opener to Philly.

Fuck this guy. Actually he's kind of cool, probably scares the little kids though.

lol yes he's quite terrifying, have you seen the videos of him falling multiple times in his first game? Not sure if it was on purpose but pretty funny anyways.

I'm curious to see how Vegas does in their sophmore year in the league, they lost James Neal who was a major factor last year, but they picked up Max Pacioretty who can be pretty good when he's playing well (not last year).
I missed the Caps/Pens game but caught the recap, crazy amount of goals scored but it's good to see the Caps aren't invincible. There's a lot of good teams this year it should a fun season.

Matthews and Reilly are top 2 in points with Marner in 4th. Matthews and Tavares are top 2 in goals (both scored twice last night, with Tavares scoring a hat trick in the previous game). Reilly is 1st in assists with Marner in 3rd.

Man the Leaf's offense is killing it this year, they just need the defense and goaltending to step it up a notch and we will be unbeatable.

Flyers new GM is Chuck Fletcher

Lets see how the Flyers do post Hexy.

Should be interesting, I haven't followed the Flyers too closely (except that new mascot that is amazing/terrifying) but I don't remember them being too fantastic. Hopefully this guy can change that, I always liked the team.

They've been under performing for the roster that they have. Now that Hexy is gone, an article came out saying he went way overboard micro-managing the team. It's a really interesting read.

I was in the fire Hakstoll camp. I'm curious to see if under a new GM the team starts performing better.

Gritty is a dumpster fire for awesomeness! When I first saw the press release I thought, "Oh hell no!" I have to admit, the PR around him is brilliant. He's like those creepy burger king commercials from a few years ago. You just want to see what going to happen next.

Oh damn that is interesting, didn't realize he was so intense. Having spies in the locker room is super messed up, or controller the players equipment and diets is a terrible idea, you want your players to trust the team and feel good not think everyone is spying on them.
We'll see what happens without him i guess.

I think Gritty's hilarious, that first game when he wiped out over and over was great (still not sure if it was intentional or not). I'm sure lots of young flyers fans will have nightmares about him.

Yeah, I think he actually fell down.

There are some great intermission shenanigans:

He's been more entertaining than the Flyers so far. I hope the team turns it around soon.
