Sign-ups for play-by-forum Twilight Imperium

This is the sign-up thread for a play-by-forum game of Twilight Imperium
What is Twilight Imperium (hereafter abbreviated as TI4)? It's an empire-building space opera board game. In TI4, each player commands a race that is rebuilding and expanding their domain over a fall galaxy with the goal of becoming prestigious enough to successfully claim the long-abandoned throne of the galaxy-ruling Lazax.
The expanding across a galaxy made of space-hexagons should be familiar to those who previously played in this forum's games of Eclipse, but in TI4 you'll find there are a lot more mechanics and objectives oriented towards diplomatic negotiations, political influence or obstruction, economic trade, and secrecy.
I'm setting up the main thread for the game now, which is here: https://forum.malaza...ght-imperium-i/
If you'd like to read the rules before (or after) you decide to sign up, the best way is with the Learn to Play manual. It's a lengthy read, and the concept of "activations" that drives one of the biggest mechanics of the game might take a couple reads before it starts to make sense, but once you see it in action it 'clicks' really easily and generally-speaking TI4's rules do a great job of following the theme naturally so for the most part things will "just make sense" without you needing to actually have memorized all the minutiae.
Alternatively, here's a Learn to Play video and here's a review of the game.
Plus I'll be here to help guide everyone, and I won't be playing, just moderating, so my advice should be unbiased and you can ask secret questions by PM.
The plan is to start the game next weekend (with some setup like choosing your race done throughout this week). Given how long the Eclipse games averaged and how the mechanics compare (TI4 has a bit fewer turns and consequently less waiting for players), I guesstimate the game will end around the end of June.
We can play with an absolute minimum of 3, but I'd like to get up to 6. We can go up to an absolute maximum of 9 players. It'll be first-come-first-served.
1. Morgoth
2. Gnaw+ItWaesNom
3. Tapper
4. Tatts
5. Blend
6. Nico
7. twelve
8. IH
9. Khell

Yes! However, I am on holiday between april 21 and 25 with very limited access (as in, my wife is likely to take a dim view of me spending time on my phone).

I'll give this a shot, though I feel like I'll be floundering most of the game! LoL

I'm just going to have to come to terms with the fact that self-vote suiciding will forever be referred to as "pulling a JPK" now, aren't I? ~ JPK

I mean, some of the Eclipse games literally never finished, so... easy to top that at least?

Yup, everyone gets dealt 2 random races and you have to choose blind. Other setup aspects (start position, Speaker token) are just random. I'm just using a preset map, not doing the drafting build-the-map minigame.

Well the old saying the early bird catches the worm applys again. I'm in if room but looks like the first alternate.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Looking forward to seeing how this works via a forum!

I'm having final exams in the course of the next few weeks so... unless someone else wants to step in I'll play

Did I make it? I kept reminding myself to come in yesterday and sign up when I had a free moment, but of course inevitably forgot.

You'll want to be checking the thread at least once every day.

With Nom's sign-up you'd be the 10th, which is past the maximum. Nom and Khell, maybe you two want to team up? Or Gnaw said he wants a partner, does one of you want to team up with him and the other go solo?

I'm happy to team up with either, or drop out if they want to go solo as I was 10th after all (or alternatively have Nom assassinated).

Alright, well let's wait and see what Nom has to say.
If Nom says he's too busy for the amount of activity it requires, would you prefer to be solo 9th or team up with someone?

I'll be solo 9th as having the max sounds like it could be fun/crazy, unless yet another pops up wanting to play, in which case I'm happy to pair up.
