I know SE scrupulously avoids discussing how he writes death scenes from a dying character's POV, but I wanted to lay my hand on a couple to inform a scene in my own writing. Currently on a slow walk re-read (almost done with DoD), and I think a lot of those particular scenes were in earlier books such as DG and MOI. I've flipped through those volumes but haven't hit upon what I'm looking for. If anyone on the board can offer a specific instance or instances, particularly when it's death by knife or sword, it would be greatly appreciated.

IIRC, there are a bunch during the hill defense by the remaining Bonehunters in TCG...you know the scene I mean. Maybe Cuttle in particular?

Thanks. I'll hit that in about a month and a half, maybe two, at my rate. I have the complete MBotF on my kindle and primarily read it when I am on the road for business (which is why it has taken 15 months to be 3/4 through DoD. Would rather not dissect TCG right now and instead read it lineally (be gentle...it's my first re-read).
It occurred to me in BH I wanted to find a scene like this, but I've come across nothing comparable except for the poor kid on the Awl'dan who gets sliced and diced by Kell hunters, certainly not as powerful as the first few times SE employs that device. Those scenes are wrenching and hard to read, but they add so much to the ethos of the series you can't turn away from them.
If something pops into your head--anyone's head--about such scenes in previous volumes, that would help the cause. If not, I have a little more motivation to get to TCG and crank through. When I get my kindle back from the GF...Grr....

Ah okay, I getcha. So....going back all the way to GotM -- and maybe I'm remember wrong -- but don't we get Lorn's death from her POV?

I think Murillo's death in the duel is from his PoV in Toll the Hounds. Mallet as well.

And what about Hedge in Memories of Ice?

Don't know if you're still looking but I just finished House of Chains on my reread. There are at least 4 PoV death scenes in the last 2 chapters that I remember.

1) Bidithal getting what he deserves
2) Febryl: Rather quick death, not much there
3) Sha'ik: Pretty good PoV death if you ask me
4) Fayelle: PoV switches immediately, so not much but a bit
