I hate these tweets and think they are awful and unacceptable, but c'mon dude. They're still very clearly jokes. Mind you, jokes that most employers would justifiably fire an employee for making, no doubt about it. But they weren't like a shock to Disney or Marvel.

I've been trolling this James Gunn news to expose the hypocrisy on this forum (see reaction to Chris Hardwick and Aziz Ansari). When it's someone we like and respect, we mute and are apologetic with our condemnations (see Roseanne and yes, this recent James Gunn reaction, because oh boy! He directed GotG! woopie-dee-fuckin-doo). But when it's someone we dislike, we outright (almost) say they should be castrated and forever banned from being in the spotlight ever again.

While James Gunn's tweets are really gross, it doesn't mean I think he should be fired and that I won't watch Guardians of the Galaxy (I really enjoyed Slither by the way. It has Nathan Fillion too, so that should get your panties wet, right?).

Also, the argument that James Gunn was exposed by a criminal rapist doesn't mean that what he tweeted is ok.

Oh, and if you think Howard Stern, Seth McFarlane (as much as I hate him) or the South Park guys will fall because of this, keep dreaming. Not gonna happen, Chief.

You weren't trolling, you weren't doing an undercover investigative report on board hypocrisy re: celebrities. You were accusing James Gunn of being a pedophile:

Maybe I'm being too harsh. If you started typing your reply before I edited my post with a better Tweet, I can see why there might be ambiguity in my intent in mentioning Cernovich (cuz the original Tweet I posted said something like "Now I have a problem with this" re: the Cernovich mob). I do think my own language about JG's jokes was pretty unequivocal, and the post as a whole is pretty squarely focused on your pedophilia implications.

You're not being too harsh, Worry. Kazooie is overreacting. These cases need to be viewed on a case by case basis, instead of burning anybody accused at the stake.

This isn't even a Weinstein or me too related situation. This is one guy, a private citizen I might argue, posting incredibly crude and offensive shit on social media. 6 years earlier. Not this week or last month but years ago.

They're tasteless and horrible and if I am honest, I laughed at a couple of them, like the giving tree. Shock humor and offensive jokes will never not be funny, because they're working as intended, pushing our buttons.

Then you can move on from there and start speculating that the man is a paedophile or a transphobe or enabling sexual assault or what ever but that's identity politics and a debate about social norms.

Like Sombra said above I know I've certainly competed with friends about who could tell the best offensive jokes, holocaust jokes, dead baby jokes, rape jokes, etc. Does this make me a terrible person? In some sanctimonious people's eyes I am sure but I am not going to apologize for what I did or said at a different age, in a different culture.

I dare people to go back through our oldest threads and find the old pictures we posted and the old jokes we told. You'll probably cringe your face off. But that's social change, we change and we adapt to our roles.

I am willing to believe Gunn was just being provocative and treating Twitter like a closed conversation with likeminded friends. Not a giant social media platform on which he could post pro-pedo propaganda.

Do I understand why a child centered company like Disney has to fire Gunn? Yes. But I couldn't possibly care less about his antics on Twitter unless I see proof that there is a darker intent behind those posts. The guy is an asshole for posting that stuff but haven't we all been assholes at one point or another?

And just to bring this back up, Aziz Ansari was the victim in that sex story many moons ago. Not the woman. She outed him, she used a terrible date and bad sex to destroy his career. For what? People need to weigh these things individually.

Gunn and Ansari are not the same as Weinstein or Cosby. If you really think that then you're living in a world with out nuances.

i'm in my late 30s and i still make horrifyingly offensive jokes to my friends during drunken competitions to disgust/shock one another, as they do to me.

As for his supposed 'fixation' (about a hundred tweets over years is not necessarily a fixation though) and his age---well, maybe people in his age group were prattling on interminably about their small children pooping and so forth.


Disney shouldn't buy up comparatively adult properties if they want to maintain a child-centered brand. (GotG is PG-13.) If they want to maintain their 'brand image' change the name of the overarching company and let Disney be a branch of it. Or better, destroy Disney, abolish capitalism, and dissolve the family... j/k.
