Are you talking about the Farcry games?

Farcry 2 is an okay open world first person shooter. It was one of the first of its kind and was pretty interesting when it came out. It inspiread a ton of discussion about game design, for example the infamous line "A grenade rolls down a hill" that Idle Thumbs turned into a meme. But it was marred by overly aggressive, respawning open world factions, some strange game mechanics and a dumb story.

The series really hit its stride with the third game. The fourth game is one of my all time favorite games.

The last two have a serious problem with writing in the second half of the game, 3 disappearing up its own arse assuming it's a lot more profound than it limply reaches and 4 destroying all aspects of two major character's personalities other than 'jerk' and 'jerk', but the gameplay is fantastic
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Far Cry 3 was pretty damn sweet. Blood Dragon was the shiznit! I didn't play Far Cry 4 (heard there wasn't much difference between it and 3). Really wanted to play Far Cry Primal, but just didn't have the time for it.

About the Montana setting, I called it about it being bonkers enough to be the setting for a Far Cry game. This happened today!

Ubisoft could I suppose amaze us all by actually announcing a new BGE game is finally happening.

Ancel has now stated that BGE 2 will not be shown at E3, but that we "should see" something about it sometime this year. Uh huh. Almost ten years since it was announced now...

Not sure if IGN has an exclusive on the Farcry 5 reveal but they're preparing a live pre-show currently:

February 2017. Damn, I was hoping to play it come November.

I like the hoaky American patriotism documentary vibe they are going for.

Super excited (though as always; cautiously optimistic given lack of actual gameplay footage - I'm assuming it's solid though given FC3/4 have been almost identical mechanics wise and really they only need to make small QOL improvements again here).

Also; dog confirmed. Ars Technica mentions it at length here.

Pretty stoked about the direction they are going, too. Going to be a huge backlash, especially in the US, I imagine, but hey - turnabout be fair play, yo'.

Oh shit guys. Doesn't anyone want to see a reveal about The Last of Us 2 at E3 this year? I sure as hell do!

Well, DNF happened, Last Guardian happened...

It's literally just BGE2 and HL3 left in the "long-ago promised sequels" club...

The difference is that Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been on hold for ages. Last year Ubisoft announced (through an investor meeting I think?) that they were working on BGAE 2 again. Half Life on the other hand has is not a promised game, nor is it an active project.

They accidentally left the Steam money funnel in the Valve Games Development centre and they all drowned in cash

Of course not. They'd have to finish Episode 3 before making the HL3 announcement.

New Agents of Mayhem trailer:

I think the writing and dialogue remains incredibly unfunny, but this is the makers of Saints Row. I love their games.

And some leaked camera footage of a Assassin's Creed teaser:

This video probably wont stay up long.

At first I was like "AC: ORIGINS"? I thought that was called AC 1.

But then it drops into Thebes in Ancient Egypt and I go....Oooooooohhhh....Cool. I'm a sucker for those games.

But shall I point out that the word Assassin originated LONG AFTER this time period? No? Okay.

QT, they're secret societies that waged war for the fate of mankind ever since their ancestors crashlanded on this planet among the apes.

The supposed connection between "assassin" and "hashish" is just later-days Templar propaganda

The thing is though, when was the last time they wrote something interesting in the AC games? Sure it'll be a competent and stylish game. But will it be interesting? I doubt it.

I mean, look at Assassins Creed Unity as an example. Here you are in one of the most exciting times in history, a time packed full with incredible real life characters and insane byzantine plots, but what do the writers go with? I mean, it was all served on a platter for them and they managed to make it fundamentally boring.

This is sadly true. The Unity time period is one of my absolute favourites...but that storyline was pedestrian.

The writing in the AC games has been terrible ever since the original creators left the series around AC2 and Brotherhood. You can tell because from there on in, the modern day stuff, the in world glitches, the conspiracy memory stuff, etc. all disappears or becomes watered down generic stuff.

It's a shame because I think the modern stuff and the in world memory glitches was the coolest stuff in the first 3 games or so. But it's clear that who ever is now in charge of the franchise did not share the original vision.
