Finished the campaign. As I suspected, it ends just as it gets really tantalising, and in effect you learn nothing new. Classic Destiny, leaving the plot just hanging.
Still, now I’ve got a hundred new side quests and activities to get through. Just tried out the Nightfall: Ordeal - I thought this would be a new activity/mechanic, but it just seems to be the regular nightfall strikes (I played the Pyramidion) but with matchmaking at last.

I managed to complete a few solo - it feels like a completely different activity with two other people beside you!
I’m level 820 - I finished the final campaign mission at 812, which made a couple of those 850 level fights pretty tough. I’m taking levelling slow though, I refuse to wear any blue gear even if it’s twenty levels higher than what I have, and I haven’t done any infusing yet either.

The Vex Offensive has begun, it’s pretty neat. Just took part in one, it’s simple, but the waves upon waves of enemies is a cool sight.

In some ways, this Vex/Black Garden stuff feels like cut content/ideas left over from D1. Like, as if this was originally how the Vex were supposed to be introduced. It does feel as if Ikora etc. are talking about the Vex as if we’ve never seen them before.

No Vex Offensive for me ; still deciding whether to buy Shadowkeep or not. But I've been having some fun with new activities and little missions that are now available since the launch of SK. Some have started out fun, but I'm also reminded about how grindy D2 can be. So many tedious steps. I'm doing Black Armory stuff and after first step to precision kill 25 Cabal, I now have to dick punch 25 Vex. And in another mission, I have to get Red Legion flavored Cabal to drop something called 'Imperials'. And I have to find them in some lost sector on Nessus. Damn, I wish the designers of these missions just put a little more thought into it and made these steps less grindy and more fun.
On an amusing note, whenever I am participating with others in Escalation Protocol on Mars, for some reason I can't get this song out of my head.

The Black Armory stuff is the grindiest thing in all Destiny. It actually used to be way worse, but they’ve changed it a lot because people got so fed up with it.
I didn’t find the hunting for Imperials too bad, and there’s a ton of sources you can get them from, and that stuff leads to the Chalice of Opulence and the Menagerie, which is among the best activities in Destiny (but which I’m not sure you have access to?).

I popped into Gambit Prime and the Crucible for the first time this season. Yep, there’s definitely new players about Someone in my Gambit team was shooting the boss without ever standing in the well which gives you a buff.
Played on the new/old Twilight Gap map as well in Crucible. I never liked that map and I still don’t. It’s just too cluttered, and with 12 people running around it in D2 (was it 12 in D1?) it’s just chaos and nonsense. The supers do feel a lot weaker now in PvP.

Hah, I was wondering why one of the new quests you get this season turns out to be for the Riskrunner SMG (an awesome but old exotic weapon): I was watching people trying to complete the new raid, and turns out Riskrunner and its unique Arc-damage perk is just about the most useful gun you can bring with you.

I dipped into PvP competitive for the first time since the update. I like that it’s only 3v3 survival now (no more bomb detonating thank god), and I definitely like that you can enter solo queue only matches (no more going up against full fireteams).
It apparently also has a new skill-based points systems which rewards you depending on how well you have done as an individual within the game, and gives you more points if you’re ranked lower than it thinks you should be ranked. So far I have enjoyed playing against new people and seeing unprecedented high scores for myself in competitive. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts before I regress to the mean. I reckon when I get up to about Heroic 1 I’m going to start finding it a lot harder.
Haven’t particularly noticed any changes in weapons being used in the new sandbox. Hand cannons and sniper rifles in the main. The supers are definitely much weaker now - to the extent I’m hesitating popping it as it just makes me a target!

I've mostly stayed away from PVP.
I'm chipping away at various quests. I've got so many quests I've barely got room for bounties.
Did my first Nightfall strike today. Don't understand how I'll ever get a hundred thousand point score but I'm trying!

Have you noticed that they’re building something behind where Ikora stands in the Tower?
Yeah, I don’t know how people do it. I’ve seen videos of people getting 200k+ solo on nightfalls, it’s crazy. My best (and that’s with a team) is about 47k.

After brutally long work days this week, got some time to decompress and jump into D2 Friday night. Finally got my power level up high enough to go to the Moon. Landed and did the opening salvo that I presume is a taste of the overall Shadowkeep narrative? Anyway, I finished that and now have to meet Eris Morn for more grindy things to do on the Moon (I'm guessing). Oh, once I completed the opening, it hit me with the 'buy Shadowkeep' and season pass splash graphics. I dismissed them and went back to the little side quests I had been working on prior to going to the Moon (I will go back to the Moon later)
I made some progress on Black Amoury stuff, except, I could swear me and my match-made fire team ignited the forge (one of the steps), but it didn't trigger it as complete (and the step remains incomplete), so not sure what is going on there (will have to try again).
Also, I saw the construction going on behind Ikora Rey , what could it mean? *evilfingertapping.

She actually tells you this week what it’s for (though perhaps only if you’ve purchased the season I guess): she’s building the portal through which we’ll get to the Vex big bad (who also happened to be a strike boss in D1) at the end of the season. Somehow doesn’t seem very smart to build it in the middle of the Tower, in the public bazaar no less.
The Vex Offensive activity itself is...okay. Disposable fun, which I suppose is the intent, as it will be going away at the end of the season. I actually prefer the public Moon Vex invasions - it looks cooler as they appear through the portals, and if you look up you can see the Black Garden through the portal, which is a nice touch.
I still haven’t tried the Nightmare Hunts. I have so many quests in my log that once I’ve picked up the weekly bounties I only have room for about five regular daily ones - which you now need to complete to continue levelling up after you reach 900, I discovered.
Also finally got the Hush pinnacle weapon bow from Gambit, should be fun to try out!

Hush is...not worth the effort it took to get it lol. I’m finally making a bit of progress for Mountaintop at least. I made a real effort to get Recluse (most effective gun in the game currently) in competitive pvp last season but fell just short. But it should be far easier for solo players this season.
@ Apt: If you’re still playing, do you fancy doing the Rat King quest together?

Ah, looked it up, this is a co-op thing. Explains why I never got around to it.
Let me dust off my headset. What time zone are you in and when should we take a crack at this!

Yeah, the point of the gun is that it’s more powerful the more of them there are in the vicinity. But it also gives you invisibility on a kill and looks pretty cool. Have you done the enemy of my enemy mission on Titan which drops the quest?
I think the whole thing is pretty easy apart from maybe the Nightfall step but we should be able to manage!
As for availability, that’s a good question! I’m pretty busy at the moment...Saturdays should be ok. During the week, Wednesday during the day is probably best, otherwise Monday or Tuesday mornings or Friday evenings. I’m in UK timezone, so an hour behind you (although our clocks go back next week I think)?
Just remembered I need to find my headset too!

My schedule is a bit different. I can't quite remember my shifts this week but normally I can do every evening and Wednesday mornings. This Saturday would be fine as well.

I need to spam javelin kills (need 25 kills). The javelin is one of those weapons that spawns and you have to pick up to use it. I know it can be used in that strike on Mars where you kill the big worm (and I got one kill with it), but that isn't very feasible to do over and over. So, is there a location where the javelin spawns and you can use it on numerous enemies? And hopefully it's not a public event where you have to trigger the event to go heroic.
