They aren't going to beat the walkers with military tactics anyway.

It is going to be a near lost fight held on to with dragonglass weapons, and quite like ex machina-ed with wolves and dragons.

Eh, I don't see it being quite that one sided.

How long does it take to make those green hell fire barrels anyway? What with the time dilation going on in this season, Cersei or who ever is in charge in X amounts of episodes could send a million barrels of fire to the Wall. Dropping them on the undead would be quite devastating.

Not necessarily. Zombie fiction is pretty consistent that being set on fire doesn't do much to zombies... no trauma, no pain, all the parts keep working until they disintegrate.
Could be an issue for the Walkers tho'.

Yeah I thought both the books and the show were clear on wights being vulnerable to fire.

The point is that the fire doesn't just burn, it explodes quite violently and it seems to coat what ever it gets in contact with. Barrels dropped strategically would fuck up the undead massing against the Wall.

If the Night King doesn't employ any other tactics than marching the dead at the Wall and trying to climb it, I assure you that a steady rate of falling barrels of explosive chemicals would decide the battle, as assuredly as a machine gun placement would during WW1's trench warfare.

We've discussed this before in this thread I think, but the writers need to figure out how they're going to sell this final showdown.

If the Wall falls (as some believe it will) then I don't see how the Seven Kingdoms aren't just utterly fucked, because the undead are too fast, resilient and can endlessly add to their number.

If the wall stands, then you still have the problem of defending a very tall structure that stretches for miles on end. Even if you could seed the wall with men for every yard of wall, then you'll have trouble holding it because the undead crawl like WWZ movie zombies and will fuck them up. You might hope against hope that the Night King just relies on numbers and hits one point of the wall and they can make it count but I think that's wishful thinking.

So, what the fuck are they to do? They don't have mages. They don't have fast loading war machines. They better have those dragons and barrels of hell fire or they are up shit creek.

Good idea, start a fire that water doesn't put out at the bottom of an ice wall you are standing on.
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

It's magic ice... sorry, I mean plot ice. It will hold right until it's needed to fail.

Maybe it's one of those things where all the Good Guys need to do is take out the Head Bad Guy and the whole 'animate the dead' thing ends.

...ok the tv show is totally going to go for this but the book will require someone to have sex with the Night King's sister on dragonback while Bran watches from a tree or something...

Yeah, the Bran creepyness was odd. I get that they wanted him to say something to give Sansa an idea of what he meant and can do, and to allow for him to sympathize. But it was also a callback to one of the more controversial things to happen in the show. And sympathy sometimes means not spelling things out. I'm not sure having your crippled little brother watch you get raped by your new husband makes it better.

On the Cersei thing, I get what you mean. I will say that smiley gloating Cersei felt a bit off. She used to have more smug, still mad, I-am-entitled-to-this smiles I think (like when she thought she found Tyrion's whore, and even when she got revenge on the septa. Her revenge scene on the sand snakes she seemed positively giddy.

Bran's awkward comments makes sense when you understand that he's mentally drowning in memories. His scene being contiguous to Littlefinger's speech wasn't just coincidence — Bran is seeing all of history at once (or, at least, has easy access to any point in history). As Littlefinger says, Bran is seeing everywhere, every time, all the time.

In that context, him spouting historical events about the characters he sees makes more sense. He did it when talking with Edd at the Wall too.

I don't think it's something he's choosing to do. I think it's all he can do.

The Walkers exude cold. If necessary for the plot they can make it that their aura of cold is powerful enough to sap the magic of Wildifre. Just as the birth of Dragons seems to increase magic in the world, who knows what more active walkers can do,

The comment isnt about what he is doing. It is about the scenes they chose to reference to show it.

Also have yet posited that maybe Jaime is the third head of the dragon? That he (and not Tyrion) and Cersei could be the illegitimate kids of Aerys? That he could fulfill the Lightbringer (which is forged in fire and tempered with the blood of the original Azor's beloved wife, Nissa Nissa) prophecy by killing his sister (his beloved) with Widows Wail who is ALSO a lion (the original Azor also killed as lion as he forged the sword) and thus creating Lightbringer.

Just curious if anyone thinks that will be a left field reveal or not?

The way the show is shaping up - it's not going to be a particularly sophisticated reveal. This is a Song of Ice and Fire and we've had Ice and Fire identified. This will be the story of how Danerys and Jon get together and rule.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

S6 would have been a perfect time to show Mad Kings obsession with JoAnna(I think that's her name) Lannister with Bran's training.

I still think it's Tyrion over the twins. To many hints. Unless Bran is just going to warg Green they need to do it soon at the risk of it being silly.

Or just not have three riders and have a million pet theories die.

Not to mention, they are foreshadowing rather strongly that one of the three is going to die attacking King's Landing this season.

Joanna is in King's Landing the year before Tyrion's birth to attend a tournament, by the king's summons. There are rumors -- probably apocryphal but there in the text nevertheless -- that Tyrion was born with a tail.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I think that choosing such a controversial scene — one that any brother should want to spare their sister from reliving — was a powerful (if creepy) way to show just how little control he has.
