At least one of them got killed off because Jessica Henwick got a gig on another show (Colleen Wing on Iron Fist/The Defenders). But yeah, their unpopularity definitely didn't help.

That's the same actress? Wow, she looks way better in Iron Fist

Curious choice, going with resting constipated face for her entire GoT tenure.

Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

Didnt see any after-show explanations that Terez mentioned, but that is not how I took the Nymeria scene. Arya asks Nymeria to join her, Nymeria refuses. Arya then smiles and recognises a kindred spirit, because she goes her own way and carves her own path as well. All it showed me was that Nymeria is very much like Arya and is an independent spirit. So it means we dont have to suffer through an awkward 'girl with wolf army' thread and it also means that Nymeria is left free and out in the wild to do a heroic last-minute save Gandalf-style when it suits the show. Nothing wrong with that, I like that the wolves mirror their human counterparts. Nice little segment.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Hey, everything that used to take 6 chapters in the books is now happening over an episode. So massive fleet building, ravens flying, people travelling and curing greyscale are all compressed down as far as it will go to fit it all on screen. I guess.

Eurons fleet - doesn't have to be the best or have the higher numbers; they took advantage of the dark and totally blindsided a fleet that clearly thought it was unassailable. Kind of satisfying watching Dorne being wrapped up.

I like the Nymeria scene. It may have been the wine but that was how it should have gone down - mutual recognition, no attack, then going their separate ways. Maybe she'll return, I hope so but it was still good.

Littlefinger is not someone to piss off and leave in your castle while you're away. Kill him or cement alliance - no in between there. Jon should have finished him then and there under Neds statue.

I liked a proper look at the Dragon hall of skulls. But where are Danys while she decides what to do? Not sitting at Dragonstone - really they'd probably be inland already looking for lunch.

How would Jon know though?

Are we to assume then that Sansa hasn't shared any info about her time in Kings Landing; Cersei, Tyrion, her escape, Littlefinger and the Moon Door etc?
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Pretty much.

Sansa's political intrigue upgrades have been entirely restricted to a couple scenes last season and getting overruled rightly at council.

It's one of the dumbest things happening in the show.

I still think Sansa's marriage to Tyrion is going to be critical to bringing the remaining Lannister forces under Dany or Jon at some point before the end.

Did anyone else fist pump the air when they saw the actor who plays Randyll Tarly's son (Dickon) is the same actor who played Billy Bones on Black Sails?

I wonder if he will have a bigger role, because he's not just a run of the mill actor / stand in journeyman, but a legit actor.

Also, watch Black Sails, it's excellent.

The Olenna scene was great. What's our death count so far this season? Major named characters...

Obara Sand
Nymeria Sand
Tyene Sand
Olenna Tyrell

The last two are not confirmed dead yet but they were well on their way last we saw them so...

Pretty moderate death count really.

Having watched the first two episodes, I am tentatively pleased, but also somewhat annoyed. Mainly by the Iron Isles fleet. Not the size or anything, but that it was unknown to Dany and co. I mean, is the show seriously saying that no one spotted the massive fleet arriving at kings landing, or the king of the iron isles having an audience with the queen. That no one, no little bird or any other friend, let Dany know?

It's just such a dumb way to create the grounds for what was otherwise an excellent naval battle.

The naval battle makes zero sense. A commander of a mostly littoral fleet as the Greyjoys are would not be on the fringes of the fleet while they rest or drift with the current.

The ability of Euron's to sneak up on the commander's boat is non existent. However, he probably could get a big chunk unawares, then after about ten minutes, drive deep enough to get a paralyzed Yara. But she's supposed to be smart and good enough to have pickets, to be reacting herself, and to probably evade capture herself as much of her fleet burns.

The battle itself is a bad plot device, even if it looked cool for a minute.

Yeah, exactly. Not to mention how ridiculously hard it is to even find a fleet on the ocean, even at the best of times. There's so many stories of fleets in the Mediterranean trying but failing to find each other for months on end.

If she'd known about the fleet I'm sure she would have been more careful though, and that's my biggest issue. There's just no way she wouldn't have known! Bah.

Especially since this has been cliff notes Game of Thrones and we have fast forwarded through a season and a half's worth of events.

As predicted, Jon's travel to Dragonstone immediate. He'll probably bring home the Dragonglass weapons next episode (in time for Arya to show up). The Jorah reunion could be next episode. I don't know how they'll have any time for more Bran visions at this pace.

I like Tyrion thinking he is all clever and being outmaneuvered by Jamie. Be interesting to see what happens with the dragons in KL, because at some point presumably the tide has to turn back for Dany.

I'm kinda hoping that Jon is still there when Jorah shows up so they can talk about the sword. (And Sam.)

Ignoring the feminist slant, which I think once again clouds the actual character discussion, I think Arya is far from a "psycho killer who kills with glee". Nor do I agree with this assessement:

Quote

It’s tempting to believe that her polite chatter and swig of blackberry wine is evidence of a soft heart still lurking beneath her assassin’s gaze, that we can root for Arya because beneath the literal and figurative masks she wears to destroy her enemies, she’s still just a babe in the woods. But Arya hasn’t become empowered. She’s learned how to abuse power, adapting the techniques of the Faceless Men and putting them to her own purposes.

Arya is "just a babe in the woods" in the sense that she's young. But even as she sat and drank with these soldier "boys", the camera lingered on their armor, their weaponry, their sitting stance, etc. Arya was in control of that meeting, as she slid on another face, this one of her own making. I wouldn't be surprised if episode 2 opened up on her riding away from a camp full of poisoned men.

And make no mistake, just because you abuse your power, doesn't make you any less empowered. Arya has power in her convictions, her determination and in the skill she was taught. By any means, Arya at the start of Season 7, is one of the most powerful and most scary characters in the show.

But I think the discussion of what kind of person Arya has become, is actually besides the point. In fiction, given the setting, what Arya is working on is Old Testament reckoning. Just like medieval Europe should not be judged by modern ideas of laws or ethics, what Arya is doing should not be judged by 21st century Western sensibilities. What Arya is doing is righteous and necessary.

In Westeros, the power is balanced on certain agreements, you uphold the old traditions, your word is your bond, names and lineage have meaning, etc. These are things that are necessary to keep the peace and developing a kind of logic behind rule. When you break your word, when you violate the trust and you desecrate almost holy traditions, like killing a guest in your home, then you need to die. Not just because there's no real justice system, the Lords are the law after all, but because the scales need to be balanced. Every one of Arya's targets are bad people, oath breakers, rapists, murders, regicides, war criminals, etc. That the Starks themselves are no longer entirely clean, does not change the wrath the Lannisters and their allies have coming their way. What Arya is doing is something people will sing songs about centuries later. It's something you will tell your children to remind them not to be bad.

That is in a sense what makes Arya so fascinating. She's the dark result of that generic fantasy book plot. The young farm boy, prince, apprentice sets out on a journey against a great evil. Only this is GRRM's universe, so instead of fighting a dark lord with the light of your conviction, Arya has molded herself into a thing of terror to kill people that perhaps aren't as evil as you might think.

Arya is the satisfying payoff of following a small, weak character for 7 seasons/books in a series and finally getting to see that story begin to pay off. She's the seed that was planted and now the baddies are reaping the whirlwind. She is a power fantasy that we can all cherish, whether you want to look at that from a character perspective or gender politics.

I think that seen had a much deeper meaning. She didnt want to eat with them, incase she had to kill them all. It was a direct contrast to the red wedding. I think the point of it was to show she is not a psychopathy. And when she had to choose between her family and killing the queen she chose her family.

It can be both. Its the coles notes season. Jorah gets there early, Jon arrives back late.

Jorah may even go North with Jon to get proof for Dany of Jon's claims.

This actually bothers me a bit. I am not sure what the timeline actually looks like but you don't just build a thousand ships in a year, the logistics of getting a hold of enough wood alone would be a nightmare.

Not to mention Pike isn't exactly noted for its expansive forests. and no sign has been seen of Euron on the mainland. Plus if all iron islanders do is sail, where did he get the men for his thousand ships (what were they all doing before he built them?). Seems like if you had the wood and the people to man the ships, Balon would have already built the thousand. All that was missing was the will? Weird.

Just have to suspend disbelief.

I think they could justify it maybe if they play up the angle that he was basically making a name for himself as one of the scariest pirate kings out in the east. How much of that fleet did he bring with him.
