They can apply the tricks used for Sherlock to show much the same. I am very curious how they'll go about this thing, but I am also deeply skeptical that it will work.

There's no way this series makes it to TV in any form that's recognizable as Bakker's trilogy.

^This, I am afraid. But hey, who knows.. I'm all for giving it a chance!

Also, Bakker's stuff does have an Alien-aesthetic at times, I could totally see it working, visually. Depending on the budget.

Agreed.

The only way they can hope for its success is to cut out all the interesting philosophy/ character development parts. At that point, it's not the Bakker trilogy anymore.

Really? What about True Detective? Bojak Horseman? Also, Kellhus straddles the line between religion and philosophy... plenty of people in the USoA like profound-sounding streams of speech that they don't reasonably understand in full.

Showing Kelhus do his thing would be challange ..... People could quickly hate the character, I find myself find annoying in the extreme and wish someone would wipe out those damn monks. The black sperm alien rape would also need to be skipped (I'm about to start the second trilogy and i heard there's a scene where the Sranc defeat an army and then rape everyone to death). Seeing Caniur would be fun however.

HBO's GoT added a couple of rape scenes.

True Detective makes sexual abuse, including sexual abuse of children, central to its plot.

The most controversial thing about it might be that, especially when it's the aliens themselves,

That, and it would upset the homophobes.

Y'know, Mark Hamill could totally nail the role of Achamian.

I enjoy seeing homophones freak out about nothing, it's amusing. Problem with all the rape in this story is that it feels a bit ..... over the top? Like Slaanesh from 40k is going "Dudes, chill out. At least try going over the top with something else. This is kinda dull already."

Mark Hamill as Achamian sounds ok (I'm not sure if the role would be right but I just want more Mark Hamill really). Who's be Caniur? We'd need a solid dude who can also chew scenery really well ..... can't recall of Jason Momoa can chew scenery or not but he'd be good.

For Cnaiur, a young Vincent D'onofrio would be pretty much exactly what Bakker wrote. Need someone good with murderous rage and weirdly loving phases. Momoa isn't that.

Ed Skrein might be able to do it, but he'd have to turn down the charm.

Cnaiur is definitely middle-aged in TPoN, 40-something iirc (yes, the concept of someone that old being so physically dominant over younger men (without PEDs---tekhne---or magic) seems a little far-fetched, but consider MMA fighters like Randy Couture and Dan Henderson... and anyway it's fantasy). D'Onofrio is a bit older than I thought (57) but he looks young enough in Daredevil.

Momao hasn't to my knowledge shown D'Onofrio-esque scenery-chewing chops (at least on video) yet, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have it in him. He's 37, give him some graying hair and he'd be fine for a younger-looking Cnaiur. Being battle-hardened and having ample experience is an important part of Cnaiur's character and his role in the narrative, though they could always change that.

Dwayne Johnson is the right age and build, though he's already locked into a (successful?) HBO series.

With a little more gravitas, Momoa could actually work for Kelhus. Physically imposing, does a solid blank stare but can look intelligent, great physical action guy, entirely too good looking.

Cnaiur... Dwayne Johnson is a little too sculpted for that. Not savage enough. ...yes yes I've seen The Scorpion King it was awful so was Hercules just stop.... Hafthor Bjornsson... The Mountain from Got... he could get the physicality of it but I'm sceptical about him nailing the underlying emotional turmoil. None of the Hemsworths are big enough... maybe Joe Manganiello (werewolf dude from True Blood, stripper in some other flic)... huge guy, can do savage, has decent acting range.

The Rock is too nice and too big a star to be Cnaiur. You're right about Cnaiur being in his mid forties during the initial trilogy.

Good point, that's definitely possible, though

The scars (swazonds) could be photogenic, though I do wonder exactly what they'd look like.

I think TSA = The Second Apocalypse, which is the forum or the whole entire series. Not sure which part of it Azath is referring to.
