Are they making a sequel yet?

Not for a long time, if ever. The Next update was basically No Man's Sky version 2.0. And they are still a tiny studio, maybe around 20 developers.

welp I was thinking about getting on tonight since the new update apparently adds more colors to the grass/water palettes, however now my friends want to try For Honor since its free with GWG, so maybe we can find some nifty pictures for each other this weekend?

Just a small selection of shots from my first couple of systems - one of them is just of my dinky first base which doesn't look like much...yet.

Is there any performance dif between PS/XB? Looked yesterday and it’s $10 cheaper at $49 on XB. I really need to check for a used copy but going into town is a bitch. I need to expand my XB library.

Pics are making me itch for it bad

No, no difference. It looks best on Xbox One X, but then all console games do. No diff between standard PS4 and Xbox versions.

Before you get it, I do want to emphasise that this is a (very) slow-moving, make-your-own-fun kind of game, with quite a bit of grind to achieve anything. There is a story (several, in fact), but they are definitely not the main draw. If you think you'll find that attractive, then by all means buy it.

Speaking of make your own fun, I had an...issue with the Sentinels earlier today. I got a side mission to steal data from an operations centre. I get there, and before I even start trying to blow the doors open, the Sentinal alarm shoots up to max and one of those giant walkers appears. I immediately get in my ship and hightail it out of there.

Only...they don't stop chasing me. Everywhere I land, the little flyers start scanning me and then raising the alarm and shooting me. I leave the planet, and ships appear trying to shoot me down. I go back down, and hide inside a building. Sentinel alertness goes down to 2 stars but no lower. All the Sentinels around me have the question marks they get when they're searching for you. I try to run away from them (trying to activate that timer that pops up when you run far enough) and they just...keep following me. Eventually I reloaded to an earlier save.

Similar thing happened to me - I found a depot, and as I approached I got 4 star level and a walker. Had a pop at it and left, but knowing that leaving the planet escalates things, I went to an outpost and level eventually dropped.

I can usually dig a quick tunnel, run past them when they follow, and seal them in, but at least once last night the wanted level stayed flashing for ages, even though no more showed up.

I just spent some time clearing a few missions; blasting depots, and taking out sentinels. Managed to get enough nanites to get s-upgrades for phase beam and hazard suit.

I want to leave this system now and have a bash at trade, which seems lucrative if you get it right, but there's one animal left on the planet I haven't found to scan. Its annoying me as I want to get at least one reward for 100% of fauna, but how are you supposed to find another species on a whole planet thats been searched already? It's not even like there are lakes or seas or different biomes here, it's scorched. May have to give up on that one.

Once, it took me six hours of searching on one planet to find the final species. I don't know if this actually helps, but if I can't find the final animal, I fly into space, land on another planet, then come back. It might be just in my head, but it seems to help with the unfound animal popping up (possibly just because I landed somewhere completely different). I do think there is something coded into the game where the final animal you look for is always rarer than the rest.

6 hours?! This is why despite all my scanning and system hopping, I have a rubbish explorer rating, as I have never 100% scanned a planet - there's always one left.

BK it will be interesting to see what you think starting out - I haven't seen the beginning since the very start, before updates. I think you'll start out on a hazardous planet of some sort, and have to fix your ship while trying not to die, but there are more tutorials now to get started on.

*after a bit of reading, it looks like the animals are divided into land, air, water, cave etc... which can give a hint to which one is missing. Although if I can't find any water on a scorched planet I'm no better off...

Scan everything in your area, get in your ship, fly to space, fly a quarter of the way around the planet, land, scan that last creature.

Yep, I'm going to try to find it.

Apparently fish turn up in the shallowest of streams so guess I'll have an exploration trip later. I'll fly to the other side of the planet, leave the ship and go for a walkabout.

I'd go for normal first.

Otherwise you will be trying to find enough materials to keep you alive, and spending more time on that than anything else. Depends on what you're up for though!

Went Normal and died again for 3rd time. 3 for 3.

4 for 4. I’m clearly not doing whatever the fuck I’m supposed to be doing. How do you run?

:p

If you press the options button on the PS4 controller, you'll find a lot of helpful menus, including a guide with lots of pointers, and an options tab which will show you the controller layout.

Click in the right stick to run (but you have limited stamina and its runs down your life support faster - which you can upgrade later).

Number 1: Stop trying to kill things. You don't even have actual bullets yet, just a laser for mining.

First thing you need to do is find Sodium (the small yellow plants). Once you've used that to fix your analysis visor, you can gather Oxygen to keep your life support system operation (the small red plants) and Carbon for your laser (pretty much any plant).

You've probably started out on a hazardous planet which has bad conditions. If you go into a cave (or any shelter), conditions will be better and you can get a bit of a breather.

Any instructions/missions you're supposed to be following should be in the bottom right. Again, if you press the Options button and go to Log, you'll usually find a more detailed explanation of the mission/quest step.

Also, you can change to first person POV. Press down on the D-pad to bring up the quick menu, scroll all the way to the left, press up, and one of the options there is to change the POV.

Ah, reading back through I see what the issue is. The Ghost-type things are Sentinels - they HATE you doing anything to change the planets in any way. If they're around, wait for them to go away or move somewhere else yourself. If they're close, it will be indicated in the bottom-right of your screen.

If you're doing something and they spot you, fly up and start scanning you, STOP what you're doing immediately. If you keep doing it, they will attack. If you stop, they'll lose interest and fly away.

I’m doing much better on 5th. Collecting all kinds of shit now and able to do a bit of item management.

Toxic atmosphere

I started out on a toxic one too - acid rain constantly falling down. It's a while before the game gives you free rein to do and go where you want - but once you get the formula for antimatter you're free to either continue following the story or just do whatever the hell you want.
