OOC: Ok, take three. This time I’m typing in Word and copying over.
IC: Lairelle shrugged. She really didn’t know why. “A guilt complex? A nefarious plot? To piss Tele’men off? Because I’m bored? Maybe I just enjoy your company, Telis.”
“You never did before.”
“That’s because before I thought you were an obnoxious bitch.”
Telis laughed. “And what changed your opinion, Sister Lairelle?”
Lairelle shuddered. “The lower cells reveal many unpleasant truths.”
“Ah.”
“Now I know that I’m the obnoxious bitch.”
“Lairelle, you shouldn’t talk that way. You have been kind to me.”
“And how do you know that I’m not just pretending to be kind in order to manipulate you?”
‘I don’t. But maybe I’m so weak now that I no longer care.”
Lairelle understood then. “Is that how it happened?”
Telis’ eyes filled with tears. “They were...my friends.”
A wave of compassion for the younger girl overtook her. “I’m sorry.” She took Telis’ hand.
“My Master taught me the error of my ways.”
“Your Master is a git.”
“Lairelle!”
“Well, it’s true.”
“Telissin!”
Lairelle turned around to see a furious-looking Rael Tele’men standing in the doorway. Telis gasped. “Speak of the devil,” Lairelle said calmly.
Tele’men ignored her and spoke to his irrith amin. “Why, you disobedient, ungrateful little...”
“Stop it!” Lairelle shouted. “It wasn’t Telissin’s fault, and even if it was, you have no right to do this to her!”
“She is mine, and I will do what I want with her!”
“Oh, you bastard...”
Tele’men went to her and backhanded her across the face. Lairelle cried out, staggering from the blow.
“Out. And if I ever catch you anywhere my irrith amin again, I swear by the gods I will see you back in the Selind’s dungeons.”
Tears were running down Lairelle’s cheeks. She ignored them. “Oh? And how exactly do you propose to accomplish that?”
“You had better watch yourself, Lady Faydian.” There was a deadly threat implicit in his tone.
Lairelle matched it with scorn. “I am not afraid of you.”
She curtsied deeply to him, mocking. Then she turned back to her friend.
“Be strong, Telis.”
Lairelle walked out of the infirmary.
When she got back to her room, she asked the maids who were attending her for writing implements. They looked askance at her swollen face but said nothing.
First, she wrote a note to Queen Karisia, informing her of what had just happened and ‘humbly imploring Your Majesty’s most gracious intervention’ on behalf of Telissin Raelia.
I just hope I’m not treading too heavily on royal favour.
The second note was to Vahntiel Daskin, asking if they could perchance meet at a time of his convenience. She didn’t trust herself to say anything more to him right then.
The third letter was the hardest.
Lairelle found she couldn’t even get past the salutation. What should she call him? ‘My most exalted and benevolent Master?’ No thanks. ‘Dear Daemon?’ She was too much of an irrith amin for that.
Oh, for the love of...
My dear Master,
Four years since you rescued me from hell. They have been the most terrible, wonderful, and draining years of my life and I want to thank you for them. Thank you, too, for caring about me enough to throw me in the dungeon (and I’m not being snide about that. It was Sardes’ fault anyway.)
But enough of my rambling. Can you tell I’m nervous?
I have a confession to make to you. I would have told you sooner, and in person, but my shame prevented it.
She went on to relate, without pride, what Sardes and Geselle had done to her before Daemon came, how he had taken her, and finally, that awful time in the dungeon when she gave. She cried as she wrote it, trying to pretend it was from the pain of Tele’men’s blow and never quite believing it. She finished with:
I will understand if you feel you must renounce me. It is something I am used to. Only...don’t send me back down there. Please. And- be wary of Tele’men. I am having doubts about him.
Always, your Lairelle.
It would have to do. Let the voices argue with that.

It was Mesaina and Rael mused on the events of yesterday. Alas, Telis hadn't managed to find out much about Lairelle. However, his meeting with Daskin had been... interesting to say the least...
Telis had left long ago, bounding around the palace searching for her friends and he now sat in a sun-beam scattered room alone. With a sigh, he stood up and strode away, heading for the Core.
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower:
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

OOC: This won't be a long post as I have writers block and can't really think of anything.
_______________________________________________________________________
As Daskin walked by, Daemon turned and grasped him by the collar. Looking over his shoulder, the man scowled.
"Is there something else you need?"
"You tell me. Lairelle, you know where she is."
"Yes, and as her master so should you. Why were it not for me she'd likely be dead in some gutter by now, with the way you take care of her."
Daemon lashed out, striking Daskin across the cheek with the back of his hand. A thin trickle of blood flowed from the gash left by his ring.
"You condemn me? You, the would-be spy who can't put the past behind? It's time you face facts, Ailsa is dead and her daughter is not your irrith amin."
"It's all making sense now," he spat bitterly. "I had wondered why you lodged me here, and now I know. It's spite, you had wanted Versaata, and since you can't have her you're going to take out your frustration on her new master."
"You really think highly of yourself, don't you? The only reason you're in these rooms is lack of space. If you want, I can arrange for you to sleep in the stables. Would that settle any lingering doubts?"
Mouth open, Daskin's reply was a slight sneer as he continued out the door. Sighing, Daemon seated himself in a nearby chair, dosing slighlty in the mid-day heat.
He was woken up by a sudden cold dread spreading through his body. Bolting upward, it was mere moments before he realized the cause of his panic.
Lairelle....child, where are you?
Not waiting for an answer, Daemon conjured a small, bird-like demon.
"Seek out the one known as Lairelle," he stated. "When you have found her don't make contact, report back to me immeadiately with her location."
Cawing loudly, the creature took flight, gliding towards the city below.
Daskin....that man's hiding something, and I intend to find out what.
And so the First denied their Mother,
in their fury, and so were cast out,
doomed children of Mother Dark.

Rael was lounging eaily on a chair when Karisia stormed through the door. His face brightened mockingly.
"Ah, greetings dear karisia! And how would you be today?"
"Tele'men!" she shouted. "You have gone too far! I will not have such pain inflictied upon Irith Amin in my palace!"
Rael's face hardened. "I will do to my Irrith Amin what i wish, where i wish, when i wish."
"I will not stand for this!"
"She betrayed us!"
"Nevertheless! She did not deserve the... the torture you inflicted up her."
"She deserved exactly what i gave her. I will not suffer treachery. If a servant of your palace betrayed a secret entrance into your chambers to your enemies, would you not punish him?"
"This is different."
"Oh, but of course, its different. Just because my uncle cut off your hand. Your lucky it's me here, instead of old Careth Tele'men, because he would have done quite a bit worse to Telis than me."
Karisia looked speechless. "I will only put up with you, Tele'men, because of my brother's wishes. Stay out of my sight, mage, and perhaps i won't execute you." She turned haughtily and stalked out of the room.

Daskin finished writing the note he had been worrying over for some time...
He still hadn't been able to meet with Deamon's Irith Amin, but he was running out of time.
He sealed the letter, not with the sigal of Vahntiel, but with the sign of the demon's claw, the sign of a spy-master.
He summoned on of his friendlier, less conspicuous demons, and told him to deliver the note to Rael or Deamon as soon as possible. This might blow his cover, but cover had never been very important to Daskin.
Now all he had to do was wait. He was good at waiting...

Life is one long struggle to understand the cosmic joke.
If we all got it at once, what would be the point of living?

No
"I am not happy, Telis."
she looked deep into his eyes trying to find some chance of forgivness but there was none. All she saw was anger. It was so stronge that it burned its way into her mind as well.
"I'm sorry master," she said in a small voice. She knew it would not change anything.
"Whatever punishment you give me I know I will deserve it." she said as she had constantly reminded herself while laying on the bed. She expected him to strike her as he had done to Lairelle. But he did not. Instead he closed his eyes.
She felt him prying into her mind. Digging deeper and deeper.
No not that! Please not that!
She tried to block the images but still they came.
One after one a steady stream of colour. With every image a new wave of pain that did not dissapate but built up. She screamed.
She couldn't stop so she kept going. The memories stopped but she still screamed. Her voice grew hoarse but the screaming didn't stop.
“Be strong, Telis.” she clung to that faint memory to prevent herself from blowing away in the mealstrom of pain. She focused on it with what strength she could muster bringing it into focus. It was the first kind thing anyone had said to her since she had come to Andorel Phai.
She stopped screaming. Slowly Telis strained to open her eyes as feeling crept back into her limbs.
She had been tied down to her bed and severel healers and maids. A few of them had bloody noses or swollen eyes. Any with more serious injuries had probably departed.
"Are you all right?" she asked the nearest bloody nose. There was a shared sigh of relief.
The maid smiled down at her.
"I think it is us who should be asking that question."
"...I think I'll be fine."
OOC: Sorry that took so long

Daemon watched as the girl walked into her room, closing the door behind her rather forcefully.
These secrets have gone on long enough. Lairelle is right to question me, I would do no different were I in her place. Perhaps I should go explain, maybe then she wouldn't feel the need to consult with Daskin.
Approaching her room, he hesitated before entering, afraid that she would not hear him out. Shrugging off his qualms, he continued in.
"Lairelle, I think an explination is in order."
At his voice the young maiden looked up from her window ledge in unveiled shock, and slight wariness.
"No, don't worry, I'm not here to scold you. I understand now that you had no choice to do what you did, I certainly wasn't there to help any."
When she didn't speak, Daemon continued.
"However, I think you have a right to know some of what I'm working on, because I may need your help in the future."
This caught the attention of Lairelle, and she perked up, looking at Daemon with general curiousity.
"Now, what I can tell you is that I have no love for the Selind," he said. "And because of this I plan on taking her from power. I think that a group of powerful mages would be a better rulership than one only person."
"I never knew you felt this way master," she said quietly, "in fact I believe many would be shocked to here you say such things."
"Hmm, perhaps, but that is what I had hoped for. My quietness was not simply snobbishness on my part, it was planned so few, if any, would truly know me."
"Well I hope you're happy with yourself," she snapped suddenly, "because your little plan worked. Even I, you irrith amin, know practically nothing about you!"
This sudden outburst shocked the mage, making him rethink his coming here.
"Lairelle I...."
"No, you will hear me out this time," she interrupted. "I've tried, honestly I have. You think I want to sit by idly while you go about your secret business? Well I don't, hence why I went to Daskin. At least with him I was helping, which is more than I can say of you!"
Daemon lowered his head, suddenly ashamed.
"My dear girl, why do you think I never asked for your help? Because I didn't value you, or that I thought you weren't up to it?"
"Well...yes," she admonished.
He sat back with a sigh, rubbing his temple. "It was for your safety. Not only would you be safe from any and all of my experiments, but if I was caught you would not be tried as an accomplice."
It was clear his last statement had stunned her, Daemon could see the anger in her eyes fade away as quickly as it has arrived there.
"I had no clue you cared," she whispered.
Grasping her arm, he looked her in the eyes.
"I do, honestly I do," he said. "Now I know nothing I say will stop you from seeing Daskin, so all I ask is that you be careful. Should you find yourself in danger, come to me and I will help, no matter what."
"Thank you master," she spluttered.
Smiling faintly Daemon left her there, deciding it was time to leave.
"Master..." she began.
With a backward wave Daemon simply said, "Enjoy yourself at the festival, Lairelle."

btw, hope this doesn't ruin anyone's plans...
IC:
Rael, Daemon and Daskin departed silently from the city late at night, invoking various sorceries from all three of them to hide themselves from the confident, attentive guards. The Core still bustled with energy, the people milling and shouting as they filled the warren of streets. The Palace, however, was dark; silent. They slipped out of the arching entrance, the metal clad guards that lined the walls staring sightlessly through their sorcerous disguises and they set out on the winding road before them.

They slipped out of the arching entrance, the metal clad guards that lined the walls staring sightlessly through their sorcerous disguises and they set out on the winding road before them.

Rael glared at her and mumbled something that sounded like "She is my damn Irrith Amin..." though he turned and stalked to the exit.
No, don't leave. Please don't leave me alone. she held her breath hoping he didn't sense that last thought.
She held her breath till her lungs ached and she released it all in a painfull whoosh. It was then that she realized that tears had welled up in her eyes and threatened to drown her. A single tear began to trickle down her cheek before she brushed it away and wiped her eyes.
He is a merciful master.
Then why are you crying?
She considered this as more tears formed in her eyes. The maids and attendants had left to tend others for now so she cried for a short time before again wiping her eyes.
He is merciful. He spared my life.
Was this any better?
I deserved it!
she realized she was just repeating her earlier conversation with Lairelle. Why had Master Tele'men told her to not listen to Lairelle? What reason would she have for lying? Questions pummeled her from all directions and her battered mind could not hold them off. She felt like she could scream but she did not. Slowly the onslaught lessened and she settled into a deep dreamless sleep.

OOC: Don't you get mad at me. And don't ever make me seem like a little kid again. Btw, when did I give you permission to take liberties with character? *Sigh* Anyways, on with the story.

Daemon marched wearily up the steep incline. Behind him followed Rael and Daskin, both in foul moods. The sun beat down hard on the three travelers, and before long Daemon had to remove his cloak. Looming on the summit directly ahead was Vesci, home to his queenly sister.
This should prove an interesting family reunion. I just hope these two will cease the bickering long before we arrive.
"Rael, come up here for a second," he said. Trudging up the path, the mage eventually stood next to Daemon.
"I would appreciate it if you solved your problems with your irrith amin before we arrive at my sister's court. If she sees you chastising Telis fiercly, we might not receive the help we need from her."
"What would it matter?" asked Rael. "Irrith amin's are treated hostily throughout the knowns worlds."
"Yes, but she happened to have been terribly abused by her former master."
"I see...." he said.
"So seeing you act in such a manner to Telis might resurface memories better left forgotten."
"Very well, Daemon," he replied curtly. "It shall be dealt with before our rendevous this evening."
As their conversation broke off, the three men crested the final bank and arrived at the city gates. Approaching the guardhouse, they were eyed suspiciously by the soldiers and questioned intensely. But upon hearing the Autrin name, the group was quickly given directions to the palace and sent on their way.
Odd, I would almost think those guards were scared of us.
It was not long before Daemon saw the familiar white marble doors of his sister's castle. A smile spread across his face when he recognized a familiar face standing before them, and then astonishment at seeing a young child at her hip.
"....Karisia?"
And so the First denied their Mother,
in their fury, and so were cast out,
doomed children of Mother Dark.

Rael strode back from the Core after a relaxing meeting with some of his lowblood friends. Things were going well. The plans were nearly in motion. Soon, so soon, the Selind would fall. No longer would Anodorel Phai be dominated by that tyranical witch, the land, the sorcery would be returned to freedom. He felt a surge of exultation at these thoughts of the success of his plans but quickly suppressed it. I must stay unsuspect. Things must not go wrong!
He leapt quickly up the palace steps and opened the door into the main hall. It was empty save one figure. They had been avoiding each other for a long time but it looked like that time was over. Rael snarled.
"Daemon."
OOC: cheesy romance Lady A? You? The thought never entered my mind!

btw, sorry if thats incorrect use of your character Anomander, i can always change it if you object. If not, perhaps we can organise something on msn?

Rael watched as Daemon sat back down after reading the note and finished eating. Arrogant bastard... He twiddled with the paper absently as he thougt, staring down at Daemon who was still calmly eating. So what should i do? My plans are ruined, Daskin was not meant to tell Daemon about the information... Now all i need is that bitch Lairelle Faydian running in, and she already knows too much about this whole thing...
at that moment, the door opened.
OOC: This post is just for the sake of movign things on... and cue Lady A

OOC: Lady A moved to the next day...
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower:
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

Rael lounged in a tavern in the Core. It was one of the less violent ones. A cigar balanced easily in his mouth and a mug of ale on the round, rough cut wooden table infront of him.
"Master?"
Rael looked over at the young woman sitting opposite him. His Irrith Amin
"Yes? What? What?!" He said irritably.
"uh... What are we doing here? Aren't we meant to stay in the palace?" Her name was Telissin, or just Telis for short. She was a nervous girl, especially in the dangerous territory of the Core, flinching away from anyone who passed too close to her.
"I hate the palace. Too many arrogant bastards wandering around. Not to mention that Daemon fellla."
Rael looked around and surveyed the tavern. They sat in a dark corner and few other occupants were within, save for a quiet group over to one corner. Out of the corner of his eye, Rael cought sight of something interesting.
"Telis." He said, "I have a task for you. Did you see that Irrith Amin go pass the window?"
"Uh... I think i cought a glance of her..."
"That is Daemon's Irrith Amin. Follow her. See what she is doing. Return here later. I will await you."
Rael made himself comfortable and ordered another ale as his Irrith Amin nervously left the building.
OOC: Is that ok Lady A? I didn't really use your character, just mentioned her, but i can change it if ya want...

IC: Versaata mumbled curses under her breath. She could feel her temper rising. He didn’t want me, he wanted Lairelle! She continued to her room. Sometimes I wish I could just slap him! Finding out that she could have been Daemon’s Irrith Amin made her insides squirm. She wondered what life might have been like if it had worked out that way. Oh, I do hope Larielle will be okay… however…The jealousy she felt of Lairelle was confusing her. She almost hated her. No, I mustn’t think like that, Lairelle is my friend! My best friend even! She pushed that aside and concentrated her anger towards her master. The fact that he never wanted her made her feel rage beyond belief.
Before she made it to her room, Daskin had caught up with her. “Versaata! Wait girl!” he said, panting slightly to match her pace. “We must find Lairelle! She is in trouble, we must hurry!” Versaata glared at him. The urge to slap him was overwhelming. But she restrained herself. They continued walking in silence. When they reached her room, Daskin closed the door behind him and turned around to see Versaata standing in the middle of the room with her arms crossed. Daskin sighed. “Versaata, you know I snapped at you for Daemon’s benefit!”
“Yes. Daemon. The man who was supposed to be my master.” She replied bluntly. Daskin regarded her for a moment, seemingly surprised at her tone. She knew she couldn’t say how she really felt, for he would certainly punish her for it.
Daskin broke the silence, “Versaata. This is not the issue. Our main concern right now is Lairelle…”
Versaata cut him off. She couldn’t restrain her anger any longer. “Lairelle? LAIRELLE? All you care about is Lairelle! I wish Daemon had been my master! He would have been far better than you. Here I am carrying your reports around all day! You don’t respect me nor you don’t care about me. You didn’t even want me!” Daskin moved swiftly across the room to her and slapped her across the face. Versaata took a step back and cowered, expecting more punishment. As soon as she had spoken she knew she had overstepped the line. Stupid girl, stupid! When it became apparent that Daskin was no longer going to strike her, she looked up at him. His face was furious. She lowered her head and apologised, “Master. Forgive me. You know how much I love Lairelle. Please accept my apology. I will take any punishment that I deserve.” Daskin didn’t answer. Instead he moved towards the door. His mind was obviously racing. He knew he needed to find Lairelle, and soon. Both he and Versaata started at a knock on the door.
