OOC: umm, i aint there yet, Lady A, but i spose it doesn't really matter.

IC:
Daskin watched Lairelle leave, obviously furious at her master.
This one has not been treated well. She will do all she can to upset Deamon's plans, and that will upset mine. She must not be allowed to do anything that will halt the chain of events i hope to put in action tonight.
"Well gentlemen. I am glad you have allowed me to come and see you. I believe we can set aside our differences for a little while as we join in our common cause. I will not speak of it now, for there are other spymasters in this damn city apart from me. We must arrange a more secure location to talk. Out of the city. There is no other way we will be able to talk safely.
If you know of such a place, then please tell me, for even the strongest protection will not stop spying in the middle of the city."
He turned and strode out of the room, the way that Lairelle had left. After a little while, he caught up with her. She was trudging along a corridor, with fury in her eyes.
"Lairelle, you must not be angry at your master. He is a busy man, and easily irritated. Come with me, I need to show you something."
He left the building, hoping that Lairelle was following him...

@Lady A, Posted Image

Btw, I've changed my aspect, sorry for the inconvience.

Name: Daemon Aturin, Master of Lairelle Faydian Posted Image
Aspect: Gelin'hali and Nas'decryn (Really a master at using the fire aspect, but also able to summon demons and the like)
Age: 29
Group: Posing as a Palace Loyalist
Appearance: Tall, sleek figure with jet black hair clothed entirely in black.
Personality: Quiet, cautious man who keeps to himself for the most part.
Secondary Weapons: Twin short swords
Strengths: Strong willed, easy to confide in, helpful in a tight squeeze.
Weaknesses: Quietness makes him seem snobby, seemingly hard to approach.

OOC: Umm, Brood, I really have no idea what you want, so...

IC: Torn between following Daskin and running off, Lairelle eventually chose the former. She was ever obedient, after all.
"Daskin." The voice of a very tired, very annoyed Daemon Aturin sounded.
"Daemon."
"My sister, the Queen Karisia, has agreed to offer us sanctuary."
Daemon was a prince of the blood. Of course. His sister had been an irrith amin for a short time, and was still a powerful sorceress, but her Master had 'mysteriously vanished.'
It happened. Not often, but it did.
I wish Daemon would mysteriously vanish, she thought, and immediately reprimanded herself for her own blatant disloyalty.
"Good," Daskin said, as though he was surprised Daemon could get an answer so quickly.
"Is my irrith amin a trial to you, Lord Daskin? I will gladly take her off your hands. And before you see her again, she shall be taught a lesson in proper conduct."
"As you say, Daemon." His voice was without expression.
"Come, Lairelle."
Lairelle had no choice but to follow, stumbling blindly after her Master.
Daemon sat in his huge, comfortable chair, which Lairelle had always envied. Fighting to keep herself from trembling, Lairelle got down on her knees and bowed her head.
"Oh, get up!" said Daemon irritably. "Do not try and insult my intelligence by thinking you can appease me with that 'remorseful slave,' bit. There is no sincerity in it. I've seen it before."
She got up. Daemon looked at her face.
"Wipe that pout off your face."
"As you command," Lairelle said sarcastically.
"Stop sulking, Lairelle. It is unbecoming."
She sighed.
Daemon spoke again. "Now, child, I believe you were told to do something about the state of our floors?"
That man is so pushing it...I swear, if I wasn't his irrith amin, I would pummel him with magic so hard...
Daemon laughed. He had obviously felt if not heard her last thought. "Ah, teenage bravado."
That was it. Her fury boiled over to the top. She took two steps toward him, hand outstretched, and caught him squarely on the side of the face with it.
For one instant she revelled in the look of pure shock on his face, then she grasped the implications of what she had done.
The penalty for striking your Master was to lose the hand you struck him with.
Lairelle looked at her Master's reddened cheek, then at her own open hand. She gasped and ran into her room, in a haze of stark terror.
He could be merciful. He could let her keep her hand.
I have been lenient toward you once this day. Do not expect it again
She found herself studying her hand. She had nicely-shaped nails. How was it that she had never noticed them before?
Very slowly, she heard the door open.

OOC: Cue Anomander. And for any of you who are wondering, that is actually one of the laws of Andorel Phai. It figures later in my book. Hehe. Character torture, anyone?

IC: Lairelle entered the hall, and was greeted by the sightof the three most unlikely men she had ever thought to be sharing a table.
Daemon turned to her. "Ah, Lairelle. I trust you are enjoying yourself?"
"Yes, Master," she muttered.
"Good. Well, I'll have no further need of you tonight, so be off with you."
Damn, damn, damn. I need to know about this.
"Master Daskin, Master Tele'men," she said, curtsying, "it is a pleasure to see you."
"And you, young Daemona," said Rael with a slight smile.
Why can't they ever call us by our names? I'm Lairelle Faydian, not Daemona In'Aturin.
"I wonder, what brings you here?" she asked.
"Nothing that concerns you," said Daemon. The other two men nodded.
Lairelle looked from him to Vahntiel Daskin, the spymaster. I am naught but a tool to them, she realized, to use and then discard when they have no need of me.
It will never be any different. Not even if we succeed in overthrowing the Selind. Certainly, the sorcery would be free.
But I would not.
A group of powerful mages, Daemon said. No doubt a group of powerful male mages.
With their irrith amin in attendance on them, existing only to serve their Masters' will.
After all, that is the natural order of things.
I cannot trust them. If they take over power, it will be no better. I must work toward my own ends, the end of freedom for all.
Damn Daemon. I cannot hate him. But I can't obey him anymore either.

"Lairelle," said Daemon, "it has come to my attention that the floors in our rooms are uniformly dirty. I want them cleaned by the time I return. Is that clear?"
"Perfectly, you bastard," she muttered.
I am sick of being used.
Daemon's eyes narrowed. "What did you just tell me?"
"Yes, Master."
"You are in no position to be insolent, child. I have been lenient towards you once this day. Do not expect it again. Now, gentlemen," he said, "where were we?"
Damn him! I hate scrubbing floors!
Lairelle turned and ran.

One question, since you said that Brood could use two aspects than what ones are you permitted to use? For instance, since I use wind and air, could I also use water?

OOC: Welcome, Morneson. Sorry this has taken so long.

IC: So cold...
Lairelle, Lady Faydian, last of Karnidar’s blood, had never been so alone in her life. All around her, there was nothing but the barren emptiness of winter.
Unmarked...most definitely not a human world...maybe some part of Nas’decryn? Gods, when you say ‘anywhere,’ you had best be prepared to mean it.
“Rule number whatever...always be specific,” Lairelle muttered darkly. This was why irrith amin were never allowed to cross alone.
I guess this is it, she thought. There was nothing for her to do but lie down, lie down and sleep. She was so tired...
A loud caw from above startled Lairelle. Looking up, she recognized the small creature as a demon used for finding things...or people.
But what in hell was it doing here? There was no one here...
The demon swooped down on her.
“No!” Lairelle cried.
It clawed at her eyes. Lairelle tried to reach up her hands to defend herself, but it was insistent.
Then it vanished as suddenly as it had come.
Lairelle’s tears nearly froze on her cheeks.
“Please, dear gods,” she prayed, although she knew not for what. She sat huddled miserably on the icy ground.
She took out her bundle of clothes, thinking to use it as a pillow. Soon, she could sleep...sleep forever.
And then, a miraculous thing happened.
Blazing light appeared in front of Lairelle. Warmth...fire.
“Lairelle! Lairelle Faydian! I know that’s you.”
A man’s voice, kind but worried. He was calling to her?
The man in the flames stepped toward her, and crouched down at her side.
It was Daemon.
“Lairelle, oh, my dear irrith amin, I was so worried. My poor child. However did you come to be here?”
Her lips formed the word ‘Master,’ but no sound came out.
“No, don’t try to talk. You will have ample opportunity to explain yourself when we get back, and indeed it had better be good.”
“Sorry,” she gasped.
Daemon pulled her closer to him. “Lean on me, child. Rest your head on my chest, if you want. There, isn’t that warm? Gods, Lairelle, you’re soaked.”
Whatever spell Daemon was using certainly worked, she could feel warmth flooding her body.
“I am going to cross now. Hold tightly to me.”
Utter blackness.
Lairelle, for one panicky instant, thought she had lost contact with her Master.
I won’t let you go, my child. Please don’t scream in my ear.
They fell onto the ground, Lairelle receiving quite a few scrapes and bruises. Daemon didn’t bother to ask if she could walk, but instead gathered her up and carried her. Lairelle fell into a doze. When she woke, she and her Master were riding in a coach toward Karisia’s palace.
“Are you very angry with me?” she asked.
“Let me think, Lairelle. I spend three days searching for your dead body in a gutter, fearing you would prove Vahntiel Daskin right after all. You don’t respond when I call you. My demons can find no trace of you. And when I do find you, you are on some barren, snow-covered plain Aenathame-knows-where, which can only be reached by sheer carelessness on your part. You’ll be very sick, knowing you. Yes, child, I am quite angry with you.”
She could feel him distancing himself from her.
“I’m sorry, Master!” she cried. He was going to send her away, she just knew it.
“Sorry because you did something wrong, or sorry because you hope to avoid a scolding, Lairelle?”
“Master, I promise I won’t ever do it again...”
“Lairelle Faydian, you promised me you would not leave the palace grounds. What does that tell me?”
“Please...”
“Silence. I don’t want to hear another word. This is by far the worst violation you have ever committed and there is no way you are getting out of punishment for it. Accept it and don’t demean yourself with pleading. I am ashamed of you, Lairelle In’Aturin.”
“Yes, Master,” she whispered.
Daemon still held her to protect her from the jostling of the coach and keep her warm, but he sent her no comfort. Instead, all she could feel was cold fury.
The carriage stopped. “Home, Your Highness.”
“Thank you. Come along, Lairelle.”
Lairelle stumbled after him. When they got to his room, he motioned her down into a chair and cleared his throat.
“Well, Lady Faydian, you have certainly led me on a merry chase. Explain yourself.”
Lairelle could never remember being more afraid. “I...” She couldn’t get the words out.
“You thought you could go for a little jaunt around the worlds, didn’t you? You thought I wouldn’t know, that I would just go along blindly ignorant of your deception, as I have for years.”
“Master...” she gasped. She was too frightened to be coherent.
“Can I leave you alone at all, Lairelle? It seems I can’t trust you to follow even the simplest orders. By the laws of our city, you should be beaten. Is that what I must do?”
“As it please my Master,” Lairelle muttered dully.
Mama...
But Ailsaran was dead, and they had given her to people who had hurt her, said that beatings and...other things...were no more than her due.
“You know perfectly well you are forbidden to cross alone. Now you know why. Disobedient, careless girl! Now take off those soaking wet clothes and go to bed. You’re a disgrace.”
“Master, please...” A fresh wave of tears came over her.
“Do as I say!”
Lairelle did as he said. She finished changing and threw herself across the bed, not even bothering to get under the covers. A short time later, she was surprised to feel Daemon’s light touch on her mind. He recoiled violently as the distress she was in reached him.
“Gods!” A white-faced Daemon opened her door. “Lairelle...”
He sat on her bed and held her in his lap, rocking her as though she were much younger.
“Shhh...don’t cry, dear child.”
“I’m s-sorry,” she sobbed.
“I know, I know you are. I shouldn’t have scolded you so. Forgive me, Lairelle.”
“I...”
“Hush. It’s all right. I’m not angry. I understand now that it wasn’t disobedience on your part but pain, and that means the fault must lie with me. Tell me, Lairelle, what have I done to make you hurt so?”
“Vahntiel said...you didn’t...” She couldn’t finish. Her breath came faster in her fear.
“Calm down, my girl. What did Daskin say?”
“He said you didn’t want me.”
Daemon looked stunned. “He told you of the trade? And you thought...oh, Aenathame! Silly little girl, no wonder you were frightened. I’ll kill Daskin. Of course I wanted you, my Lairelle. Ever since I first met you, in cast-offs and nearly illiterate, never taking your eyes off the floor. You have no idea how hard I fought...”
“Really?”
“Yes. I wouldn’t trade you for any other irrith amin.”
“Even now? Even after I told you...”
“Lairelle...no, it doesn’t matter. Well, I don’t mean it like that, of course it does, but I would never renounce you, ever, not for anything you have done. Or anything that was done to you, come to that.”
Was he out of his mind? “But Master, I’m a wicked, filthy whore. I’m unworthy of you.”
“Lairelle Daemona Faydian! One, you will watch your language. Two, you are most definitely not...what you said. You are my irrith amin and my pride, not wicked, not filthy, not anything, and don’t you ever forget it. I never want to hear those words from you again. Is that clear?”
“Yes...but, Master...”
“But nothing. My dear girl, why did you not come to me before? To have lived with that pain so long...I could have helped you.”
“I didn’t want to be a disappointment, so I put up blocks in my mind so I could function.”
“Lairelle, you know how unhealthy that is.” Daemon looked sick.
“Forgive me...”
“Oh, no need for that. You gave me quite a fright, is all. Now, it really is time for you to be in bed. I will have Healer Leron examine you in the morning. Will you be all right if I leave you?”
A jolt of terror shot through Lairelle at the thought of being left alone in the dark, with no Master there to keep the voices at bay.
Daemon chuckled. “As I thought. It’s perfectly all right. I’ll put you in my bed and sleep in the chair beside you.” He lifted her to the support of his shoulder and carried her to his room, putting her down on the bed and pulling the bedclothes up around her.
“Sleep, child.”
She did, but in her dreams she saw, over and over again, a bloody knife coming down on a screaming child, spattered by the rain.

IC: As Lairelle stared at the blood on her hands, a cold realization swept through her. They were going to think she had done it! But she hadn’t, not really. She had only left...
When she found Daemon hadn’t wanted her.
Oh, gods...
Lairelle felt tears threaten to overwhelm her again, and resolutely pressed them back. There were things she needed to deal with.
Sardes’ murder wouldn’t be thoroughly investigated, a cool, remote part of her mind concluded. He was lowborn, and had no status. The Core dealt with their own. Murders like this were common there.
Lairelle herself had killed before, comprehending fully. Not...not like this. Not that the bastard hadn’t deserved it, but...
Oh, gods, what would Daemon think? Would he think she was a murderer? It wasn’t like she would ever be seeing him again, she reminded herself. He wouldn’t bother to come and look for her...would he?
Enough of this, the remote part of her mind warned. She had to get out of here. But how to do it without attracting attention?
Illusions. Yes, that was what she would do. Lairelle had always been good at illusions. It was one of the things that made her a good spy. Anyone who looked at her now would see a regular irrith amin going about her business.
When she got to her own rooms, she stared blankly for a while, having forgotten what she was supposed to be doing. Ah, yes. She needed to wash. She was covered in blood.
Then what? Well, she would need clothes. She couldn’t stay here, and she couldn’t go back to Calris. She got dressed and threw a few things in a bag.
She moved like someone in a dream, mechanically. The distant part of her mind thought: I have many blocks. No, I had them. Now they are gone, and I am as vulnerable as I was the first time Sardes took me to his bed. She vaguely remembered reading about a similar case. That girl had died screaming.
“Although I doubt I could manage so much as a whimper.”
Lairelle’s anguish overtook her again. It was all a lie, every bit. To think that she had ever believed she could be more than a piece of dirt to be trodden on!
Lies, lies, every happiness a lie...
In torment still, she ran toward the edge of the city, to the Bridge. Focussing all her will on crossing, she simply thought Anywhere but Calris.
Darkness and cold. She could see scenes spinning around her, and then she was dumped out onto cold, hard ground, too tired to do anything but sob.
Then she looked up.
“Oh, ****.”

The room was silent. The healers had stayed with her for several hours after Tele’men’s visit observing her to make sure she would be all right. She told them she was fine and they found nothing wrong with her. It felt like she had only been here a few days but she had no way of knowing. It could have been only a couple of days or it could have been weeks.
A maid entered the room.
“Excuse me, Lady Telissin?”
“Yes,” she lifted he head groggily “what is it?”
“How are you feeling today?”
“Much better thank you.”
“Healer Leron has pronounced you fit enough to return to your master.”
Has it been that long?
“How long have I been here?”
“Approximately three weeks Lady Telissin. Shall I announce that you will be departing?”
“Yes, and could you please inform Lady Faydian too?”
“Your master has forbidden it.”
“Oh well. Would you help me to my feet then?”
She lifted the blanket and slowly sat up. She groaned as her muscles protested each movement. They were stiff and sore after being motionless for so long. The maid came forward and together they got her to her feet. She leaned on the maid and took a few clumsy steps.
“It seems I’m out of practice.” The maid smiled at her and they continued around the room until she was sure of her ability to walk. Soon she would return to her master’s quarters.

Go ahead, although you can have another with that.

BAD Brood. Bad.

Ok, I'm going to post a bit of background here.

At random, I have decided this story will take place in Year of the Bridge 842. (The book is Year of the Bridge 1039.) Ok?

(Go to my story for what an irrith amin is and what bloodlines are, ok? if you're confused, ask me.)

What would probably be easiest for a guildwar is to focus on what I mentioned briefly in ch. 2 as "The Core." Its proper name is the Southern District, but whatever. It's basically where all the 'illegal entries,' (those people who don't belong to a bloodline) hang out. Disreputable assassins, thieves and the like. Perfect place to have guilds.

The palace of the Selind is where all the 'purebloods' live. Those in the Core hate the people in the palace, especially the Selind.

So basically, there are three groups you can belong to, but you can have separate guilds.

1. Palace loyalists- It might be best if they all formed their own guild. They want everyone else out of the city, and are loyal to the Selind.

2. Treasonous purebloods- those people who live in the palace but aren't really loyal to the Selind. Mostly irrith amin. I'll be in this group. They can belong to any guild, but many distrust them. Are used as spies.

3. Lowborn rebels- Anyone who does not live in the palace and wants to do whatever. Lots of different guilds here vying for power. They all hate the palace, but not necessarily everyone in it.

(Most people in the city will be mages of a sort.)

Any questions? Feel free to ask.
