Do you mean the amendment on leaving the single market? I rather sympathise on that one, especially for MPs representing strongly remain areas. They are representing their constituents and not their party which is the democratic thing to do.

In principle I support the motion, hell I support us reversing everything and remaining in the EU :)

But it had no hope of ever being passed so it was an entirely symbolic gesture. Fine if you're a backbencher like Umunna, but if you're on the front bench you're expected to adhere to the party line. So I have no problem with that one guy who resigned from the front bench before voting, but the other three should have done so as well.

More cynically, I do doubt Umunna would have proposed it had he been given a shadow cabinet position like he was so openly angling for in the days following the election.

So just as we head out the door the EU announces a free trade area with Japan.....

Leaving aside obvious jokes about whaling, this is just reaffirming my thought that brexit is going to end up a disaster.

Oh well, nothing to do now but sit back and enjoy the ride.
meh. Link was dead :(

I think I'm gonna move. I don't want to live in this dumb country any more. Seeing some of the comments on various websites from leave voters and the cruelty that has arisen from Brexit makes me sick.

And it's only going to get worse.

If I had more money I'd be moving to Iceland very quickly. Or at least trying to persuade my wife it's the right thing to do (she doesn't do too well in the cold haha)

Pft, Iceland is markedly colder than Norway. And rainier. And windier.

Iceland is populated solely by the descendants of Vikings who were too shitty at navigation to find their way back to Norway after pillaging Ireland.

The first article is pretty informative and well-written, specially the section about why leaving the negotiations is simply not an option.

The second one is from june 2016.

And now once again those weirdos over in Western Australia think they can leave. Yep, they're calling it a WAxit. :p

They tried it back in 1933 actually. Pity the Constitution doesn't have any provision for secession. Idiots. They've always regarded themselves as almost a separate country. And the whinging about "The Eastern States", geez it's like we're Mordor. :)

Like is this a sizeable number of people or a significant political group or just some randoms?

I didn't know Australia had enough people to secede.

True, people we don't have much of (but getting more all the time). No, it's LAND we have HEAPS of, and the biggest small-s state in the free world (sorry Russia, your states don't count as free) occasionally gets the shits with the rest of us over the spoils from taxation.

I have no clue about Australia or the reasons for them wanting this and if they're just raging morons, but surely the constitution not allowing for it is a poor reason to not discuss it?

So if sources are to be believed, the Tories put through a power grab last night that means they don't have to have Parliament scrutinise how they handle talks / possible deals etc. Extremely worrying.

They won a vote on having Tory majorities on important legislative committees. These committees are supposed to be representative of the Common (e.g. if there were 40 Lab, 50 Tory, and 10 Lib Dem in the Commons, there would be 4 Lab, 5 Tory, and 1 Lib Dem on a 10-person committee). Currently, the Tories do not have a majority in the Commons, so they should not have a majority on the committees either. But they argued that their deal with the DUP effectively makes them a majority government (and then they allied with the DUP to push through the vote).
