Brazilians are super chill, until their masculinity is threatened. Then they go haywire in a really flouncy way. This is a general thing and individuals won't always act like this, but the culture across the big cities of Brazil is like this for the men.

I been doing Brazilian jiu jitsu long enough that I'm not super bothered by it anymore, but i do know what you're talking about.

Is that why they have been booing that French pole vaulter?

Well at first they were booing him in a general way coz he was up against the home favourite. At the medal ceremony though they were booing him quite rightly because he reacted to that by comparing himself to Jesse Owens and the crowd to Nazis, so fuck him.

Also fuck Justin Gatlin too, just deserts when he was eliminated from the 200 because he tried to play Usain and ease up and got caught by the pack.

Huh didn't read that, they just talked about how unacceptable it was to boo people...

Ment, just saw a UA guy win a canoeing event, he was well good!

So it sounds like a Brazilian judge thinks Ryan Lochte and his fellow swimmers who claim they were robbed are fudging the truth, so two of them got yanked off a plane to remain in country, and Lochte (who had already left) is being requested back through his embassy.

Apparently there is footage of them returning to the Olympic compound laughing and joking ( some 3 hours after they left the club they were at), and not at all acting like people who had just been robbed at gunpoint.

Wtf happened in women's 4 x 100? USA, BRA, and KAZ were all disqualified? Why?

I mean, UA got in the finals with season's best record, so i'm not complaining, but why?

Edit: Americans fumbled the baton. But alleged there was "contact" from Brazilian runner. So now they get to re-run. By themselves.

Bad news for China who is the no 8 right now and will get kicked out. Also, there go my humble hopes for a bronze for UA.

But people will get to see yet another US v Jamaica showdown.

So now it sounds like Lochte's story is completely falling apart, with his three buddies telling the authorities that Lochte's version is made up.

It SOUNDS like they were just trying to cover up drunkenly trashing a gas station bathroom and not wanting to pay for the damages to a security guard.

Sync swimming is pretty damn cool!

And just like in duets, so far we're being juuuust short of medals in 4th spot.

Also, Uki decathlete is out. A shame, since prior to the Discus throw he was solid 6th-7th spot. But I'm guessing some kind of injury.

GB the new China, we're coming for you USA! Just need a dozen or so more cycling competitions to be entered into the Olympics.

Every single member of the GB cycling team won at least one medal in Rio in one competition or another. That is a phenomenal achievement.

I honestly couldn't care less which of the powerhouses takes the other medals, as long as UA wins something.

I mean, considering how abysmal funding for sports is back home, the fact that we're going toe to toe with the biggest Western sporting powers, as well as Russia and China, taking so many 4th spots is remarkable. I'd like to see someone make a graph comparing government money poured into sports vs medal counts.

Yep, by quite a gap.

Ment, as I said somewhere above, I was impressed by your guy in the canoeing, the weird one where you have to kind of kneel on one knee and power forward with a single sided oar.

If GB starts taking medals in the swimming, and there's some hints that they might (TeamGB has in recent years shown a great aptitude for capitilising on individual successes and attention to draw funding and competitors into a sport, it paid of with cycling, it's paying off with gymnastics and swimming could be next), they'd take large chunks out of the US's medal tally...

I was annoyed that the BBC's commentators were so focused on Bolt that they didn't notice the incredibly tight battle for Bronze, which involved Britain's Adam Gemili. Sad for him (he lost out by 0.003 seconds) but it definitely shows that if he can put a non-injured season together, something he hasn't done in his career, he can be a big challenger for medals down the line, especially when Bolt goes.

Canoe sprint. Yeah, we're good at that, b/c in the Carpathians people use those small boats to go down mountain rivers + rapids for fun.

Better than the perpetual gymnastics I had been finding on the TV here last week. Swing, swing, pivot, swing, twist, swing, twirl, land, bow. Not really my cup of tea but my wife loves the stuff.

There's a graph on the BBC I saw a few days ago here indicating a correlation between spending on sport and medal wins. Of course being a few days old the graph shows an expected fewer golds in total than we currently have...

All the team sports that play and finish in the first week, plus the swimming are the things that most interest me. I could care less about Atheltics...I'm OKAY with gymnastics, but not overly so...but my wife loves them as well.

Welp, another 4th in synchro for UA, ^_^

The fight for silver b/w the Uki Rizatdinova and Russian no 2 in rhythmic gymnastics ought to be interesting.

And hey, we got 2 more canoe slalom teams in the finals tom!

Check online. I know CBC is streaming all events. I'm sure there's a news network in the states that does the same (esp since an American is competing)
