It's 56 days away I think. I'm usually really stoked to watch Olympics esp the Winter games but I'm getting less and less excited for 2016 Summer. People and cancelling because of Zika virus, Russian field and track team are banned and now they may pull out completely. Who knows what else will happen next 2 months? I think this is going to be a shitty Summer Olympic Games. Thoughts?

And now...

Rio Governer declares "public calamity" over financial crisis.

But of course, they say it wont affect the games.

It really could tank down there. Zika alone is going to keep tourist and Athelitics away and just imagine how many of them would have had London 2012 as there last due to age. Phelps for example. I know he said London was his last but I never take their word for it till time comes. I think he could have 1 more in him but 2020 is out. Idk it seems everyday I'm hearing more bad news about Rio.

Gunmen storm a hospital in Rio. One more thing that's going to turn people off from going. 20 masked men went in to get to a prisoner apearntly

Body parts wash up on beach where volleyball event will be. The list keeps wracking up.

So Phelps is going for it again! I knew it. I hope he gets atleast one gold. He's going to be going up against much younger guys but he brought it 4 yrs ago in London.

I haven't really been paying close attention to the Olympics this year, but I keep hearing stories about Rio's water being poisonous, the atheletes being robbed or assaulted by criminals and the police, the sports facilities and dormitories being absolute garbage, etc.

Can somebody explain why on earth this shit show is actually allowed to continue? (Beyond corruption)

Panem et circenses!
She went and she left me like litter. She took all future summers with her. I lost all my money cuz I tried to bribe her. Now I can only afford an amateur sniper.

Well, that would make sense for the Brazilian government. Why are the rest of us taking part?

This looks like it's going to be a shitshow/dumpster fire of an Olympics.

I have to admit that I am now far more curious about a whole bunch of events I would never have bothered watching, if only for the trainwreck viewing.

Can you imagine the screams of horror if a rowing crew capsizes?

Man I'm getting so nervous Phelps will be struggling this time against these youngsters and not get any Golds. My heart will break if he doesn't for real. I find myself not caring one bit about getting Brazillian culture overload in opening ceremony to though I'm interested to watch it just to see if they can beat the great Russian opener of Sochii. You gotta admit they did an outstanding job visually then.

Neat little opening skit with the foily blanket balloon things. They re using the Russian projection tech so kudos.

Just heard the President was suspended for "complicated" reasons so an acting one is at ceremony. Go figure lmao

As I thought I wasn't into the Brazilian culture stuff but that was some great visual effects.

Canada only has 35.1 million people?? I thought it was higher then that.

India 1.3 billion(Ando must be crowded constantly) and only 135 in games

India frankly doesn't value athletics the same way other countries do. Same for Nepal.

It's weird and I don't like it, but that's the way the culture is. Plus the meta culture represses women from participating often.

Nepali flag bearer had a weird name. Phupu is your father's sister (your aunt). Not a first name.

I was very unimpressed at 1st with Torch after London and Sochii but they managed to make it look cool once it was hoisted in place.

I was bummed N Korea team got no noise whatsoever that I could make out. The games should take 1st priority and set aside what their dumbfuck leader is doing. I may have got a bit misty eyed for refugee team.

Well, Canada just gave top seed/world champion in Volleyball Brazil a run for their money. They lost, but not by much and it was super close both sets. That's damned good for the 24th seed against the top ones.

I talked with my father about this and he says up in the mountains, people don't see names the same way. Some people even regularly change names or maybe the records get written down wrong and they just go along with it. I'd known a little bit of it, due to having some dealings with a Sherpa family friend who changed his name.

Not sure if this is the case with Phupu Lamu Khatri, the judo player, but it was interesting to talk about for a bit.
