On my 4th or 5th re-read (or more, lol). I m at 'BoneHunters' again and i find myself wondering-why is everyone so damn mean to Pearl? Not one character misses an opportunity to spit in his eye, so to speak. What gives?

He stabs Kalam in the backand throws him in the sea -> Kalam is not really fond him
He wakes Stormy up -> Stormy nearly breaks his leg
He is Pearl -> Lostara loves/hates him
He is a claw -> Only Kiska loves claws. Everyone else fears or hates them. Even most of the claws don't like each other
He shoots Kalam with a paralt-bolt -> Fellow claw is disgusted by his unnecessary cruelty and Apsalar kills him in an even crueler way.
So, a lot of people have good reasons to hate him.
I'm not sure why he was the most important target on Apsalar's list, but maybe Cotillion was jealous.

He was talentend, pretty, vain and smug about it. He also was a mean assassin, though in this series that appears to be less of a concern

Convergence theory. Power draws power. If a god went on a rampage like Apsalar did other beings would have taken notice I guess. Plus wasn't Cotillion supposed to step in to protect the throne if QB and Trull couldn't hold Icarium off?
