CRs a twat, a selfish twat. As such he is and always will be inferior to messi and co. Suarez is a better player.

Anyways.

1-0 to the world champions? The team that thrashed brazil 7-1?
WE'RE NOT BRAZIL WE'RE NORTHERN IRELAND!!!

Drinking with a few germans after the game, they were in awe of our fans, 90 minutes of non stop noise. backed by hours of it prematch. In the streets and on the metro. Same after the game.
Their faces when we were like 'aye, but imagine if we'd scored or won' and it clicked with them that this was our support when losing and having like 20% possession of the ball.

Cant speak. Cant function, lying in bed in bits, arms are just dead from clapping.

Delighted to have got through.
Honestly would prefer france over wales in last 16. They havent turned up at all, and bale fuxking scares mw

Fan rating:

24: Russia
....
3: Albania (so much noise from so few people)
2: Northern Ireland (Will Grigg!)
1: Iceland (that HUH-HUH faster and faster chant is incredible).
"I think I've made a terrible error of judgement."

Maybe Suarez was better for one season at Liverpool, but Cristiano is the clear second best player ever for his entire career. I don't think some of you realize how hard the game is now to play well. Few people smoke and drink at halftime or even in their daily lives. The tactics are higher level, the athletes are much better, and the demands of competition are much higher. These players play a ton and with much travel.

It's so much harder to be that level of player now than it was for Pele or Maradona. The one thing that has changed for the less difficult is that the grounds quality and general level of teammates have mostly risen, which makes for smoother, more skilled play.

That one side of the draw being the death draw is hilarious. Spain shot themselves in the foot with that bad performance vs Croatia.

Argh.
Wanted portug to crash out with a loss and no goals today.

Id argue to opposite amph. Its easier for players now, hence why there are so many GOOD players about. Back in the day the players weren't fit, they didn't have nutritionists and a ton of specialists working with them daily to keep them in peak condition. They're playing a with better boots, lighter balls on pool table like surfaces.
They aren't getting the absolute shit kicked out of them weekly by lumbering center halves who prided themselves on being the hard men at the back.

Pit best and pele into a modern training system and give them the protection modern players have? Shit they'd tear it up.
Put that pampered twat cr back into a seventies game? Be stretchered off first half.

Your determination to dislike Cristiano is strong.

However, if you believe any of the above, you aren't paying attention to the athletic demands. Pele was nowhere near as fast and strong as Cristiano or Messi or pretty much the top 200 forwards right now. Best is a joke in this conversation. The stuff Venezuela was trying to do to Messi last week was pretty rough. Cristiano occasionally gets that treatment too. And they still perform well.

The game evolved and the stars of yore aren't as good as above average players now.

Disliking a preening jerk on the field shouldn't mean discounting his massive accomplishments and surprising willingness to 1) pay taxes and 2) donate a ton of money to refugees and charity. By most accounts, Cristiano is a pretty nice guy off the field - and one of the most lightning rod types on the field ever. He's just one of those people who looks hatable.

Very bad luck with deflections for Portugal. Lulz.

I acknowledge CR is a great footballer. A total cock but a great footballer.
I don't think he's as good as you seem to think he is however.

Again, diets, training regimes, your average center back is probably quicker and fitter than 99% of players from the 60s/70s. Which, to me, makes the superstars of the past all the more impressive, they were playing in shit boots, with a ball which weighed a ton, and still were smashing it about. Pre match dinners were roast beef and spuds in the english top flight for years ffs. A cup of tea at half time. No coffee beans or lucozade sport, they just ate whatever shite they wanted. Arsenals resurgence in the 90s in almost entirely down to Wengers revolution in training regimes and the clubs diets. reading the auto biographies of a few of his players highlights this. They were able to run teams inti the ground suddenly. Hell with wengers diet and training plan even that clown Merson was able to look like a decent midfielder and he was off his tits on coke half the time.
Best, were he not an alcoholic and piss artist, would easily have been one of the best in the world. Some of the stuff he did with a ball whilst hungover as fuck is astonishing. The Man city manager sent best to bed loaded up with champagne and two models the night before the derby. Best came on and scored a hat trick the next day.
He danced around players literally for fun. I dont know how much european football you catch, but suarez has been phenomenal since he left liverpool, playing far better than he ever did for us.

Ive had this debate with a few people, guys who have been at games were Pele, Best, Cryff and many more were playing, when they were at their peaks. Best getting the shins battered off him and shrugging it off then making an absolute fool of them. If those guys were man managed the way a modern superstar is... They would be frightening

Suarez has been great for Barca. I've caught a few of their games and he's moving terrifically off the ball. However, he lost a little bit of touch regarding the ball that he had at Liverpool. That season, everything he hit was perfectly weighted and located.

Jesus what a result for Iceland. Their 5 points has to be the best performance from a small team in euros history.

Hmmm.
England havent performed to their billing yet, but they should beat iceland. Be awesome if Iceland do them, just dont know if they'll have the quality to hold out the 90 mins and nick a goal

CRs a twat, a selfish twat. As such he is and always will be inferior to messi and co. Suarez is a better player.

The last seven club seasons:
Suarez 301 games, 227 goals, 138 assist
CR 348 games, 364 goals, 124 assist

Clearly Suarez is a better player Posted Image

Hungary was so close to throwing Portugal overboard, that would be cool. I hate the UEFA reform of the Euro but when it's on I can't help but vouch for the little guy. Good job Iceland and fingers crossed for them in 1/8 but their chances against England don't look great. On the other hand, if one of the big guys is to be eliminated by Iceland, it's probably England :D
