Could Paran ascend himself. I mean like make himself an ascendent? If he could make an entire regiment ascend then making himself do the same should be easy. Right....

I think that there's no definite line between the point where you're mortal and the point where you're an ascendant. Baruk once said that there are many paths to ascension, so one must assume that every one of those paths is different, that each takes a certain amount of time to travel so to speak... Likewise, I don't think people are ever really sure of ascendancy...

I figure Paran is ascended, but I don't think that he's got any special super powers because of it... He's been forced into this position, and he's probably the best suited to fill it, but one must remember that beyond his influence on the Deck of Dragons, and his ability to travel through the Holds and Houses and such, he hasn't really gained any power. I have a strong belief that he'll one day be forced to play a much bigger role in the turning of events, maybe even be the ultimate "weapon" against the Crippled God, but I don't think that he'll get any kind of powers like, say Rake or whatever....

who has more power though Paran or Quick. I mean Paran does everything that Quick tells him to. Plus we don't really know whats inside paran waiting to get out.

I think he already has a superpower when he turns into a hound.... thats not normal!!!

"more" superpowers isnt really an apt question i think. paran might have a greater potential for power, as master of the deck, whereas qb is jkust a mortal. however qb is incredibly intelligent, and has clear mastery over his powers, whereas paran isnt sure of anything he can do.

Maybe a more apt question would be does Ganoes WANT to ascend? And on that thought, can he do annythign about it or will he just have to deal with the fact that he will ascend weather he likes it or not? remeber, ganoes has had enough of being used/made to do things so he may verry well resist the transition.
Lets see shall we?

i cant see how ascending will help him out that much anyway. i mean he does have an army of Bridgeburner ghosts to cover his back and quick ben (a high mage) to look out for him. He's pretty sorted. Not to mention the fact that it his his ultimate goal to remove the chained god... something that everyone god and mortal alike want in the malazan world. So really ascending just means he looses a bit of support. plus he isn't that keen on ascendents himself (i.e. oppon) so why would he want to become one himself?

The idea that he doesn't *WANT* to ascend could be a good enough reason for him to actually ascend... There's a saying somewhere that says that the best rulers are the ones that don't want to rule... If you just change that phrase a little, you can look at it in the light of the best ascendants are the ones who don't want to ascend... Give power to someone who WANTS power, and they'll likely misuse it, give it to someone who doesn't want it, and they're more likely to use it only when necessary, and are less likely to use them selfishly...

If Paran were to ascend, I think that he would be one of those rare ascendants who don't use their powers selfishly, don't use other people with their power, etc... IT's a common affliction with the Ascendants we've met to misuse their powers... *shrugs* My brain's a little addled, so sorry if this makes little to no sense... Just throwing another thought into the mix...

It never hurts to have power even if you don't need it at the moment but the occasion does come up when need it the most later on knowing how the series goes, :D

how much claw training do you think Paran got? its mentioned a bit in GotM but perhaps its a GotMism?

also is he any good at throwing his dagger?

Yeh hes good at throwing his dagger we see this in GoTM buyt its probably a habit more than a fighting style.

Basicly parans probably good with a sword, never recieved any mage or assasination training. I assumed that parans training with the claw was more of the subterfuge variety than killing(such as toc). But he probably could be a powerful mage(or has potential to be) and apparently beleives he can call the hounds of shadow and the BB full compliment

I thought he could only call one of the Hounds and even so, only with Shadowthrone's/Cotillion's permission? Granted, they may feel some gratitude towards him now that he freed them from Dragnipur.

He told Nightchill/Silverfox that when he sent the two hounds into KG he realised that they were going home, and that he could summon them back. All of them, he said.

@ Monoch Ochem

i think your thinking of Crokus who had a deal with the rope that he could call for one of the hounds (blind?) which he does on drift avali against the tiste edur (not that it helped him!)
