Wow, not sure how to read that one. You're calling me out on a pc issue on a fictional character? Think it was Karsa who remarked that Cots was pale, so you can blame him for not being sensitive to albinism...
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Sorry, bad joke. Some times I mask my disdain for Tumblr with sarcasm. It probably doesn't work if you're not familar with their lingo.

If you really want to hit that tumblr mockery you have to include "tbh" in every sentence whether it makes sense or not.

Good blurb, very good cover - although I'm a bit puzzled at the bone firepit. Why go to the trouble of making a nice, artistically carved plinth, getting yourself a chilled drink, and then leaving the firepit to be bones tilting slightly on rock.

I take it back, I take it back... put ships all over the cover... more ships. Lots of ships. An entire flotilla.

He has pale skin though, so obviously not Dal Honese.

See I took that to be that he was constantly in the shadows and didn't get out into the sun. You know a modern day office worker.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

To be fair, I still prefer names like Kyle and Dorin to names like Rautos Havanar or Mukvan Dreidir (randomly selected RG names) Some times the naming conventions in the Malazan series because completely alien.

My first thought was that it was a really small ship. Now I see it's a fire pit how disappointing.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself, Shiplord.

Any significance that the design on the front of the plinth is the same as the cover of The Forge of Darkness? Or just recycled artwork?

Wait, what's wrong with Dorin? Just that it's a bland, made up name?

I was thinking as I was reading Shadows of the Apt...I hope ICE doesn't read these books, because then he'd start naming characters after the Ant-Kinden city states.

ICE probably only reads good fantasy books.

I think I've said this in another thread about ICE's work, but if you're gonna give me a Dorin, I'm also expecting a Orin, Gloin, Bombur and Bifur. Which is not the kind of feeling/atmosphere the Malazan series has for me. I love Tolkien's Middle-Earth, but it's significantly different from the world of Wu, and I'd like to keep it that way. I hated the name Kyle too BTW.

Crossing my fingers that there is a LOT of Dassem in this series.

I was reminded of this old Erikson interview today where he makes some very topical comments about names...
