More likely to be punished than published!... Unless there's a partial apocalypse and law and order break down... no doubt marauders will steal it and publish it (#PrioritiesInAnApocalypse...).

I'll do you one better....even if let's say he gets TWOW published in the next say 5 years...Book 7, A DREAM OF SPRING still needs to be published and a possible Book 8 the way he was talking...and if there is an equal wait for book 7 (and 8)....the man will be deceased before he gets near finished (FFS he's 73 and overweight, so his health can't be the best).

So even believing that TWOW is nearish release...another decade wait for the next one will doom it if it's not already doomed.

Well yeah. I'm like you I stopped caring ages ago I'm not bothered but TWOW. Even if it came out next year I doubt I'd bother reading it.

I think he should start a whole new epic series to get those creative juices flowing.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Looking at his track record, I wouldn't put it past him, worry.

My GRRM ship sailed long ago, I was tired of waiting for Dance but still ended up buying it, read half and dropped it.

Authors can do whatever the hell they like, it's their life and their creation but not trying to battle through and finish the main series just seems strange. It's like Tolkien saying fuck it to Return of the King and expanding out the world/lore elsewhere instead.

It's been years since I thought he would ever finish the series (back when there was only supposed to be one book after Dance). And probably just as long since I had interest in reading more of it anyway. I skimmed Dance, only reading the storylines of a couple characters as I don't care about most of the ones left. Doubt I would even pick up the last couple as a library read if they were out.

I kept waiting for him to finish it before I started it.

Eh, after the mess that was ADWD, am I even really interested in TWOW at this point? It's becoming more and more obvious that he doesn't intend to finish it, and ADWD made it very clear that he's lost interest. A shame given how good the opening trio of ASOIAF was but there we go.

I expect it to be thoroughly punished.

I'm just curious to see if the project gets handed over to Sanderson before or after GRRMs death.

I do think it will be finished, as publishers know they can make a fortune of the final books regardless of the quality. I just dont think it will be GRRM finishing it.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Has Martin's stance on the books changed? I believe he's made it clear he does not want anyone finishing the books upon his death?

The difference being that generally punishments actually have an ending.

Maybe he just said it to discourage assassination attempts.

Yes, the man is charmingly naive. He also thinks that HBO is just going to turn every idea of his into a TV show. I very much doubt that what GRRM wants has any bearing on what will happen with the series upon his death. Publishers will find a way, if there is money to be made.

I mean it wouldnt surprise me if the publishers simply put together a hodge podge of various manuscripts together and sell it to fans.

How very dare you sir!

Chris Tolkien (along with a young Guy Gavriel Kay) worked hard to realize Tolkien Sr.'s SILMARILLION vision.
