But seriously. Orbit doesn't seem to have done any promotional work for the impending UK release of TGO...

Though, who I am to talk to Malazan fans about proselytizing regarding their favorite underrated series :killingme:.

Just finished THE GREAT ORDEAL.

Review after I pick my jaw off the floor. For supposedly the first half of what was supposed to be a longer book, that's a convergence and an ending that would leave even Erikson envious. Thankfully, only a year (or less, hopefully) to wait for the last part.

Hate you.

It was more that it wasn't Aurang doing it this time.

Unless Kellhus is a skin-spy it's rather out of character.

There are no The Unholy Consult excerpts. Anything on the Second Apocalypse forum labelled as such refer to excerpts from The Great Ordeal.

There's stuff that is excerpts from something, but didn't appear in Great Ordeal. I'm thinking specifically of the Aurang appearance.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Could you point me in the direction of these "excerpts?"

I am away from my computer and the good search abilities, but there was an excerpt about someone meeting one of the Inchoroi, I think Aurang, in a tower and them having sex or something. It was bizarre.

This was a while ago. Before we learned of the bifurcation of the last book.

Ah. I believe you are referring to The False Sun, which is an "Atrocity Tale" (short stories set in Earwa between the Nonmen Tutelage and the First Holy War, according to Bakker). Bakker had it marked as a spoiler for TUC (before the bifurcation was known, as you so aptly put it).

Apparently Bakker has a bunch of those shorts in progress. TFS and The Four Revelations of Cinial'jin are available for free on his blog, as per the links. The Knife of Many Hands is available in two Grimdark Magazine issues (bundle linked), the second of which also has a great interview with the author himself. There is another forthcoming in Evil is a Matter of Perspective.

For a moment I was worried that somehow someone had published excerpts direct from Bakker's The Unholy Consult draft, which would be quite the piss-off.

I like you a lot, Madness. I'm going to read all of those again and see if it changes now that I've read The Great Ordeal.

Lol - shucks. Thanks .

Enjoy rereading. Bakker has done an unbelievable job of layering in the revelations throughout the main narrative and the Atrocity Tales. Lots of little nuggets therein (and I'm personally of the opinion that the Atrocity Tales don't stand so well on their own as shorts without already being a fan immersed in the series for whom they are more rewarding).

Incidentally, I'm working on some TGO / TAE inspired Halloween costumes. These get a little graphic....

Just don't go trick or treating in any red states. Or states with streaking laws. Or anywhere in public, actually.
