I mean you could always ban doors, if the school only has one it makes it easier to barricade against a shooter, right? ...Right?

Except gaming is a first-worldwide phenomenon and school shootings are only common here. Perhaps games rev up certain individuals -- I mean there are people who eat tissue paper and marry roller coasters -- but who's to say "murder simulators" don't satisfy the aggressive impulse in more people than they make worse. Where's the data?

There is no real data out there that backs up that conclusion. If anything it is the opposite. I know using a scientific study is not valid because it goes against some people's feelings. However in this age of random regurgitated talking points taking the time to read an actual study from people who aren't supported by the NRA and the gun lobby is something that may lead to a more engage brain. Much like playing video games.

I subscribe to Grossmans logic actually:

https://www.google.c...g-dave-grossman

He’s written a shit ton of books ... go forth read. The guy literally study’s the act of killing and he says that video games have warped our fragile minds. As a adult I watched my nephews and nieces grow up and push non-killing games, board games , and movies that don’t focus on this aspect. You gotta look at the
Human condition and the way society exposure kids to this stuff. Ain’t right.

Hmm.

I have a choice between a peer reviewed article published in Nature and a book by a random military officer.

I wonder which one I should trust?

It does make sense. For a while there in the 1980s, every other week we'd hear about kids growing mustaches and sneaking into pet stores to stomp the turtles.

The whole notion that video games turn people into violent sociopaths is laughable and frankly anyone who subscribes to that view needs to be laughed at. There's no legitimate correlation between games and mass violence.

Agreed. And this goes for anything really. Music, movies, TV, the Matrix...

If someone is fucked up and goes off and shoots up some place...he (or she...but usually he) has mental health issues and none of the media they consume is about to tip them over into doing something evil...it's what's in their messed up head that causes them to do evil shit.

The difference in America compared to the rest of the world (who also have PLENTY of mental health issues to go round) is easy access to high powered weaponry. Full stop.

That anyone (anti-gun control advocates) even attempts to ARGUE this point...astonishes me.

Yeah that isn't really a scientific look at anything now is it. Just I like guns and killing people. Listen I know that it is hard going through the scientific process and doing studies. It is a lot easier to say that Video games are the culprit and that they cause bad things to happen. Not the easy access to guns. But if you are going to actually have a conversation you have to start it using actual facts.

No offense to Col. Grossman but while he has studied how to kill a person (and I am sure that he is an expert at that) it is not the same thing as being an anthropologist. The half of a paragraph of a paper that he quote from can easily be taken out of context (and most likely has been) that is why it is important to read the full studies (like the one that I linked to earlier).
After all, and I am sure that you agree, that taking small bits of information out of context to the larger study is disingenuous and detrimental to having a real conversation about preventing future school shootings. Which regardless of how you feel about Guns and the 2nd amendment you don't want to see more young kids shooting up schools. I am also sure that you will agree that over the last 20 years school shootings have exponentially in frequency and in a steady increase in casualty rates.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Annapolis shooting: Five killed in attack on US newspaper - http://www.bbc.co.uk...canada-44645986

I wonder if this latest shooting is someone who took the idea of fake news to heart and took action? It might not be of course but hearing that they shot up a newspaper made me wonder...

I'd be interested in knowing if that paper recently did an anti-Trump piece of some kind.

Can’t stop the signal Mal!

https://www.wired.co...x-for-diy-guns/

This is what I have been discussing for years now. It came to fruition and now the courts deemed it legal. Interesting this is a total game changer. Granted these production unit will cost $1200 to to be able to create a seemingly mobile factory. Technologies implication on this are vast, how can one possibly control the signal.

Sometimes you kinda reflect on a show like fringe and wonder how much the world is going to chance here real soon.
