Zombies...
hmmn. ok assuming these are voodoo zombies with mild motivation for brains.
I like my chances better if I'm a dick and effectively lookout for myself. My family is REALLY spread out and my wife is with her parents prepping for the delivery so unless I magic the cash to get on a plane and fly over to them I don't see us getting together in the immediate situation. It sucks but it's well beyond me to get to them or my dad and brother. My mom is the furthest away and in a very dense city, so is my sister...
All I can do is hope my mum is traveling here or to a better location, as she tends to do quite regularly, when the apocalypse hits.
My new office park is an hour away from my flat. The area is less dense and we are not that far from the ocean. It's just three of us in the office, most times just two. We can lock ourselves up during the early stages. The office park is still in the process of construction so here's my grand survival scheme:
I wait for nightfall. I'm familiar with the site antics of the neighboring construction areas(There are maybe 3 happening at the moment). I can google up the process necessary, for my plan is to hot-wire
This Guy
It has a 91 Gallon Fuel capacity and chugs along at a solid 11 km/h.
There are a lot of malls in the area, I'd puff over to the wholesale mall just down the way. The congestion down that route is terrible so might try to "forge" a new route off the ramp in from the highway. quite a few vehicles in the way so off road might be the best bet anyways. Malls are often too easily accessible, too much glass to be reliable. This hideout I have in mind is built more like a warehouse. It's also got a gas station on site. If I can work out a way to rig the pumps this makes the Soil Compressor viable, atleast for a little while. Not too many trips would be planned. The Compresser would be a good "Shock-Troop". I'd use it as leverage to get into some shelter.
I could be a dick once more and just barrel into the mall but I'd like to try get into a society. The site vehicle and I would prove useful and worth them letting in. once we get the CAT in through the Warehouse doors I'd rig up some defensive weapons and armor for myself and the CAT. I've seen some chainsaws at that mall, a few locks, firepit grids and a welding torch. the possibilities are endless. Fortifying all the exits with dog food and potato sacks would help mask our scent as the goods decompose. So I don't see us worrying too much about getting rushed.
Then its all about prepping the CAT for exit supply runs. Once the fuel runs out we'd need to make foot trips. so every foray the CAT makes would need to be made for heavy items like weapons and fuel. We could pad the driver booth up. we could also set up some headlight torches overhead for night travel. I'd also insist we tie up some trolleys at the back to aid supply runs and to hold supplies if we decide to make a move. We'd be able to gear up for any forced exit we need to make.
If all hell breaks loose we can always attempt a run to the coastal resorts but I am not a seafaring animal. I'd much rather shell up, maybe in the long term convince others we make trips back to the construction site and see about getting some diggers to moat up our mall, Till asphalt into farm-able land and move cars into an outer defensive perimeter ALA Peter Clines Ex-heroes Series.
End game - I'd hope for access to more information should it be available That's key, establish survival then hunt down situational intelligence. If I can get communication lines open to my family I think I'd try my best to organize it so we can meet up. How I go about it would depend on where they are and what sort of organized relief operations are in-place.
