Not found that guy yet, don't know if I want to! For Rom I killed the first wave of spiders, then got some massive damage in with my greatsword. After he teleported once I just ran at him did one attack then legged it. Those spiders one hit kill attack is infuriating! I'm struggling with Martyr Logarius at the moment.

I found him on a roof in the witches area. Just discovered him again, hanging around outside the ward, all happy with the place! I attacked him this time - and he transformed.

I can get Rom down to one third health - but then as I'm working in carefully, I eventually get single shotted by a leaping spider or blue rock attack. Which is somewhat frustrating. Which sword are you using now?
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

It's Ludwig's Holy Blade I'm using. Also the flamesprayer + Bone marrow ash is pretty effective.

Finally beat Rom. Hit and run during the second wave did it - although I died at exactly the same moment and had to go back to retrieve my souls.

On the plus side I now have a +6 Holy Blade, which is pretty formidable esp with rune upgrades. Finally got some bloodstone chunks from those gargoyles in the Castle and the new Unseen Village area.

That boss made of corpses is really quite disturbing.

I only found it last thing last night. It's pretty disgusting. I saw some bell summoners up on the walls so I guess they're first.

I don't know whether I should beat him first or finish the Castle.

Father G is two, unless you beat him before the Cleric.
This city is huge.. believe me, you are in the start area!

I beat Gascoigne by keeping a clump of graves between us for the first phase - the music box helps but only if you are close enough to get a charge attack in, otherwise you're left open.

Second phase is.. fast. Get a short distance away.. he'll charge/leap. Do that strafe evade, sideways, fast. While he's swiping where you were, hit him but leave some stamina. He'll start to come after you again - wait until he leaps or runs, go sideways again, hit him again.

It's totally not that easy though, I got hit bad, then ran off up the steps to re health. Then back down again. There's a clearer space to the left of the fog door that I used to get behind and round him iirc.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

You can hit him through the graves with pretty much any wepaon actually. It's what I did. Dodge is your friend, and once he's changed into the beast run up the stairs at the back of the cemetary which willl give you space to heal and to see him coming. I found he was easier to beat in beast mode if I could see him run at me and I could double dodge behind him. His beast mode is fast though, so you gotta keep on your toes. But the swinging through graves thing and hiding behind them as you do so is the best way early on. I didn't even use the music box, or know you could. LOL. It took me about 5 or 6 tries to beat him.

Woohoo, I beat the Blood-Starved Beast with a shortened axe and quick strokes while keeping away from him. Hard as hell, but I did it. Then I got the badge that allowed me to buy Ludwigs Holy Blade!!!!

Nice! I only just got that blade, I stubbornly held on to my starting weapon until Rom. It's been pretty useful so far, I still prefer quick attacks and thrust, but I do like running around with a greatsword over one shoulder, looks like DS's.

I just found that Crow Hunter npc in the Cathedral, I must have missed her elsewhere after that first initial encounter, as she was hostile and I had to kill her. Got the Crow cape but only wore it for a minute - rocking the Executioner outfit at the mo.

QT - you've got Vicar Amelia to face now... hehe.

Not had a problem with that. Sometimes when I'm not locked on and something leaps behind me out of view, I'll attack back into the blind spot before swinging the camera, as that few seconds can get you killed.

I've found a farming area (it turns out I was not the only one) for those who might need a boost.

Behind the Cathedral Ward is a big grim reaper looking guy who is tough to beat. If he kills you he brings you to a gaol....don't wander about just run up the circular stairs after you unlock the jail cell you're in...and at the top is the lantern which takes you back to the hunters dream. Well once you've done that you can go back to the Gaol area anytime (third headstone up in HD) and there are two grim reaper guys...one at the top by the lantern (he's heading down the stairs when you show up, let him) and one off in the distance near the middle point of the circular stairs...so all you gotta do is aggro them both (one at a time, or together if you can, the one from the stairs will eventually go join the other and you can aggro them together for a double kill)...throw a pebble, hit em with a bullet...and then back yourself down the bottom of the stairs and back up just past the ceiling of that part of the stairs...and like the Wolves on the bridge near the Cleric...they get their heads stuck in the ceiling of the stairs when they come for you...so as long as you have a long weapon (the original axe is fine) you can poke at them till your hearts content and stay beyond their reach. Kille them both, and then go up to the lantern to go to HD and the come back and repeat the process. They both drop either Blood Stone Shards, or Twin Blood Stone Shards in multiples...and I think 1700 blood echoes each.

So basically I had bought Ludwig's Holy Blade, but its stats were nowhere near my hunters axe...so I spent a half hour taking out these two yabbos and I've already upped Ludwigs blade past my hunters axe (twin blood shards ahoy!)...and in the process with the excessive blood echoes, I can up all my stats as well.

Yeah I went back there to get the twin shards. If you go down the stairs to the middle door, you can run through the cage area (past two more Snatchers) to reach Darkbeast Paarl.

There's also a good spot for echoes at the first Forbidden woods lamp. Just go up the hill past a couple of beast men to find a brute - facing the other way for an easy backstab and 4000 echoes (closer to 5 if you've got the moon rune active.)

I've just bumped into an absolute beast of a boss in Upper Cathederal Ward. I had a few goes and barely scratched it before it kills me in one hit. It's one of those that makes you think, 'I'll come back here later..'

Oh I can't use Kirk Hammer for lack in strength. I did grad the Saw badge in the tunnel with giant pig and unlocked the Saw Spear. I fucking love this thing.

It's really fast when short, for beasts like the dogs, but got great reach and thrust for backstabs. I used it for ages.

Goddamit. I HATE Vicar Amelia!

Her attacks are just too sweeping and I get caught to close to her just trying to get one hit in.

Everyone stuck on bosses?

After leaving the alien thing, and a number of failed attempts at Martyr Logarius, I've headed into some weird Nightmare area full of invisible creatures and ravens with wolf heads.. and another boss, which I could probably have beaten if I could have found my way into the room he hid in halfway though. (I got offed by a minion while trying to find the way in.)

On the plus side i now have a +9 holy blade.

I've not been playing that much recently, or in general really, too busy alas. I did get some time in today though and I finally went into the woods where you encounter a clearing filled with riflemen. I got rid of those guys and found a gate, but I had too many echoes and not enough time, so I figured I'd end the session there. So, without giving too much away, how far am I from a lantern at this point? Should I press on or return for some levels first?

Just beyond that gate is the Charnel Lane lantern. Like it's literally open the gate, walk through about ten feet...lantern.
