So how did it go from 7 hexes to 6 hexes? Ie where'd the extra hex go and if it was already drawn then why does it matter cause the already drawn one wasn't picked. One mistake and I end up with hive fine but 2 mistakes and ending up with a second bum hex would really suck and get me off to a horrible start.

Neither the Hive nor the ancient homeworld are bad hexes. I'd trade either one of them for the nebula.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I started off with one of those discovery hexes. Perfect start. We are in round two and IH has had 5 hex draws. It's dampening the experience from my point of view because of how it's gone down.

What does the hex even look like. Of course I'm keeping it. I cannot afford not to.

Orokos roll 1d7: 7 [1d7=7] 271 ancient homeworld, orient so it connects to tappers tier 2, but not his homeworld.

This is the Ancient Homeworld hex Tatts.

Or well, it links to a post with the hex in it.

Tatts, I'm Planta and I'd have kept it. Juicy hex.

IH, what was your orientation for the 207 hex and do you want the money or the VP?

CF, are you keeping the 5 science or the VP?

My next action is dependent on CF's next action, so I'm not going to leave a provisional.

I'll be in a meeting for a couple of hours this afternoon, so may not get back to do my turn for a while.

no provisional -- i will wait until it comes around to see what tech is still available before taking a decision. Most likely will explore though.

Nope, think we'll have to wait.

While you're there you can think about the mistake you made. You should have taken the tech and grabbed neutron bombs. :D

D'rek went to lengths to talk me out of getting them in game IV. "oh you don't need them on the first round. There's 6 of them. More will show up."

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

If I were to invest in a laptop which type would you recommend?

I am a big fan of Apple and OS X. And it's not hard to use a virtual machine to run windows if you have to have that OS for a particular reason. Or dual boot to windows.

However, the first step in laptop shopping is to go to a store and physically touch them. Make them put it on a table at normal height, sit in a chair, and use it for a bit. Make sure your hands fit the keyboard. That the screen quality is good.

A laptop can have great specs but not be a fit for you. And that makes them miserable to use, especially if you're doing the road warrior thing.
