Wow voting last night felt like ripping out a piece of my soul. That was the first time I didn't believe in my choice even a little, it's a sad day for Ontario.
We'll see if these so-called "efficiencies" Ford is promising to find to save money actually exist I guess. No idea how he's planning on spending so much, lowering taxes, and yet lowering the deficit.

Can't believe the Liberals didn't get the 8 seats, they've lost their party status now. Could make it a lot harder for them in the next election, lose funding and a spot in the debates. I really didn't expect them to lose that badly, Wynne shouldn't have given up so blatantly.

The liberals were always going to get crushed due to the presence of Ford. Wynne's concession made little difference.

Once Horvath moved ahead of Wynne in the polls the Liberals were doomed, because the anti-Ford vote did not want to split. You had to have very popular individual MPs to retain their seats.

As for what Ford will do, god only knows. It would be nice if his caucus would reign him in, and once he realizes there aren't 10 billion in magic "efficiencies", ease up on some of the stupid pandery tax cuts.

But even in the best case we are in for a weird ride because his track record in Toronto is of near fetish level on some issues. Toronto LRT projects that are badly needed for already planned development are likely to get buried in a "my way or the highway" subway plan, which won't even necessarily fit the city planning. He is going to get into a pissing match and potential lawsuit over carbon pricing with Ottawa, which won't achieve anything. He is going to take the province out of its way (and its best interest) to make life nicer for the car commuters we should be cutting back on. And we are going to have 4 years of all out war with unions.

Those are all part of the best case scenario.
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

It seems like the NDP are already misinterpreting this and it will cost them.

The line seems to be the step up in seats and to official opposition makes them now the official alternative, and thus contenders to be the government in the next election. That will likely lead them to keeping Horvath and running a similar campaign again.

But as we saw with the federal Orange wave, and Mulcair's electoral fortunes from the opposition chair, the NDP are still in a place where it will be easier to recede than progress. These were the perfect election conditions for them. Angry voters at the liberals, a scary, incompetent PC leader which should have coalesced votes to prevent him, an election where no party is running on any sort of fiscal prudence. And they still hit a massive glass ceiling.

Let's play "list the things Doug Ford has done to Ontario in his first like WEEK of office as Premier"

First off, let's be clear...Douggie is playing from the Trump playbook of Rewind/repeal EVERYTHING the last person did, to appease his Conservative base who hated Wynne and the Liberals.

- Cut 100million in NEEDED funding for school repairs
- Scrapping a plan to teach students the terrible history of Residential Schools in Canada.
- Appointed an ANTI-Sex Ed advocate to be essentially Minister of Education.
- Repealed Cap & Trade carbon tax.
- Repealed the Green Fund which (paid for by the above) was giving breaks/rebates to people for reducing their carbon footprint and buying green/energy efficient technology.
- Free prescriptions for children and young adults with private coverage (This one I'm okay with, as it's really not needed when you have coverage. Most plans are fine for this)
- Freezing hiring in the public sector (I mean, this would be fine if it didn't also slam LATERAL moves within the public sector, making it impossible to move ever sideways in your job).
- Repealing the law they JUST got moving to disallow BOTS and Scalpers from using tech to dominate the Ticket buying industry...so that he could give quarter to the secondary buying outlets like StubHub. So basically, screw the average customer, give in to the private Corporation that's intentionally SCREWING the average customer when it comes to sports, music, ect. tickets.

and here is the worst one so far.

- Repealing the updated 2015 Sex Ed Curriculum, and replacing it with the antiquated 1998 one. The updated curriculum had aimed to better reflect the issues children face today, including topics such as same-sex relationships, online safety and gender identity...none of which the '98 curriculum covered. So basically rewind 20 years and let the teen pregnancy rate soar again, and make sure kids aren't accepting of people with different lifestyles. Thins feeding not just to his conservative base, but inexplicably (since he's a racist white asshole) to the immigrant's who would/should NOT be his "base" from countries with more strict guidelines with regards to health and sex and what their youth are taught. It's a real ridiculous step backwards and basically will skate through on the fact that no one who is up in arms about it...ACTUALLY read the damned updated curriculum and what was different...most of the "complaints" they had were inexplicably already in the '98 curriculum their kids were currently being taught... that they didn't know about because they don't read it beforehand, they just heard shit on FB and repeat it even if it's lies or falsehoods.

Anyways, Doug Ford is an abominable POS.

Curious about the "Scrapping a plan to teach students the terrible history of Residential Schools in Canada." - thought that had already been in the curriculum for a long time? I definitely had a whole section on residential schools in my history class. Maybe my teacher was just a go-getter and it isn't firmly in the curriculum?

Yes, as far as I know it's part of the current curriculum as far as my teacher friends have said, but it was not entirely accurately or thoroughly presented there and not at all complete, so the Wynne gov't was working on updating it to be more complete and cognizant of First Nations people. Doug is repealing the plan to update it, which flies in the face of the results of the Reconciliation Commission, so that should help to further drive a wedge between Canada's indigenous population and everyone else.

I can't say it's that much of a surprise the things he's done, but it is pretty shocking how quickly he went about it.
The sex-ed thing really grinds my goats, there's a clear relation between worse sex-ed and increase teen pregnancy, STIs, and awkward questions.

Wow I just saw on the news one of Doug's people talking about the sex ed saying how Wynne's version should be only for post-graduate studies, not 3 year old kids.

Yeah, he's a fucking dumpster fire...and he's speaking directly to every idiot who DIDN'T read the curriculum, and believes all the misinformation about it.

A reporter asked afterwards what about cyberbullying since it didn't exist back then and he just mumbled some nonsense about not going back in time and analyzing every detail. No idea what he was talking about

If and when he does it will only be free to him and his cronies. The best we can hope for is that it's some shitty micro-brew.

In case anyone was under the impression that people like Trump and Doug Ford being horrible racists and enabling other random citizen racists to come out of the woodwork was not quite present in Canada...This is in London Ontario (which has never been known for being the most tolerant place, I think it's mostly white, working class)...but goddamn this type of shit makes me mad and embarrassed to be a Canadian.

Wow. That kind of stuff makes me sick. Other than the employee there it didn't look like anyone else stepped in to help and tell the guy to fuck off.

A list of the HERO breweries in my province that are taking a stand and refusing to dance to that POS Doug Ford's stupid Buck-A-Beer plan....

https://north99.org/...a-beer-gimmick/

GOTTA LOVE CRAFT BREWERIES. I'll be buying a bunch of these brands at their normal prices now to make sure Ford gets the message.
