I am really curious to see how they handle arseface.

Oh and I want that epic battle with the Saint of Killers but they'd probably need Game of Thrones levels of money for that,

It's probably going to mirror the comics and be pretty great right up until the fucking stupid terrible series-destroying awful very bad no good shitty horrendous bile-encrusted assfest Cassidy moment.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

That seems like a really stupid concept. But then again I thought an angel out to save the soul of an Oklahoma City detective was idiotic and that turned out quite well.

Of course they had Holly Hunter.

The comic series lost its direction... Went from holding God accountable for shit to redeeming Cassidy for no particular reason. Also took a turn for the worse when sex went from being a plot driver to potty humour comic relief. Also, the Meat Goddess.
That said, it had moments of brilliance, Tulip and Jesse were glorious characters and the supporting cast... notably the Saint but some of the others as well at least before Ennis turned them into self parodies....were fairly solid. There's good stuff to work with if AMC can keep some solid writers with a love for the series engaged.
Arseface...meh... I got the joke but it wasn't all that funny.

There is no way the writing staff slips the Meat Goddess part because it ties directly into the only part that has actual black people and social commentary.

The skip part is probably the rich people mansion orgy as that's too risqué for cable tv. The nuke detonation also probably gets pared down to something less action movie.

Arseface needs to stay in and the entire ending needs to change from the dumbass Alamo thing.

Kevin Nash should be the Saint of All Killers though.

And the guy who played Lionel Luthor in Smallville should be God. He can do charismatic yet weasly very very well.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

He'll blow out his knee walking across the desert.

First trailer?

I am not sure what this trailer is going for. Maybe it's meant to appeal to a broader audience but I don't really remember any of this from the Preacher.

Like Cassidy introduction though.

The 'i want you to hurt my dad' thing is entirely new, but there was a clip trailer a few days ago (io9 has it) that had some of the more comic-familiar scenes, notably from 'ALAMO'.

Considering the comic series is over a decade old and was fairly subversive/under the mainstream radar, they're going to have to make some updates and changes.

I admit to being VERY curious and cautiously optimistic. Done right, there's some great great source material there. Jesse and Tulips's story is a true 'epic love story' in every sick twisted sense.
Done wrong, there's Arseface and the Meat Goddess.

I mean we are talking about a story where

Spoiler

That's a tough sell to ANY audience. As far as that is concerned, this trailer seems to do a decent job of riding the line...but I'm not sure how interested I am at this point.

I just want good dialogue and disturbing violence and I will be okay.

The thing is, it shouldn't be a tough sell.

Violence, vampires, hot looking cast, Church conspiracies, redneck ninja, angels, demons.... FFS it's 9/10ths of everything the genre fans want more of minus zombies (and really, we have enough zombies tnx).

I suspect that large chunks of the main storyline from the comics will be left aside and im genuinely curious how much of the main theme of 'holding God accountable for the shite state of the world' actually survives.
In the comic...

...the end of that series will never live up to what it could have been in my head.

Well, you could port in the ending of Pullman's Dark Materials series...which does a solid (if imperfect) job of finishing up a storyline that deals with such heavy subject matter.

I've never been one of the haters of that series, but if your point is that God turned out to be a pathetic old man hiding behind a curtain, than yeah, that would work, albeit not nearly as cool.

Watched the premiere.Solid. It's a massive departure from the source comics in many ways, but it works and the cast really nails it.
A little bummed that the road trip aspect may be lost or delayed, but not enough to be off put.
Tulip is pretty much perfect. Cassidy is close.. Not quite selfish enough but he works. Arseface was too coherent. Cooper works as Jesse, remains to be seen if he can raise it.

I need the UN to pass a law that really cool TV shows have to made available in all parts of the world at the same time for all people. I don't want to wait 2 years for this to show up on Netflix or something.
