The NYPD has a history of this, for example Adrian Schoolcraft.

http://www.huffingto..._n_7021134.html An officer actually charged with murder. The video isn't graphic (in the sense of being up close) but everything else about it is so clear. Even this I don't consider a slam dunk, but I'm not sure how anybody could see two sides to this one.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

The Charleston paper's site let's you watch full screen. http://www.postandco.../PC16/150409468

I'm curious to hear what if anything the pros can do with the audio. The second officer appears to be say something to the shooter; I'd love to know what it is.

Sounds bad but luckily this WAS caught on tape. No way to cover up evidence this way.

Indeed, especially becuase this cops' "story" (before the bystander with the tape came forward) was that the victim attacked him, struggled with him, and took his taser...meanwhle we can see nothing of the sort occured...and the cop is even apparently seen dropping something next to the victim.

Jeezus. When thrown into stark relief like that against other countries...it's staggeringly insane the ratio of difference between the States and everyone else. My gods.

Per capita numbers are not so mind-boggling, though the difference is still stark.

Fair enough, but yeah. I was a little stunned reading that article and those numbers.

My home town just got its own police beating caught on tape, but from a newscopter which makes it a little more ridiculous. Also making it ridiculous: the suspect stole a horse and rode it into the wilderness, a police copter landed near it spooking the horse who in turn threw the rider off, and he was then stun gunned and beaten by multiple police while camera rolled. It's just one of those videos where you have two cops punching him while he's down, and then more and more cops rushing in to get their kick, punch, baton, etc. in. Lasts a good two minutes. I'm pretty sure the horse also kicked two of the cops too. All around nonsense.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Just a few bad apples.

As I heard someone aptly point out today, people always leave out the rest of the saying in order to reverse its point: "A few bad apples...spoil the whole bunch."

For the record though, the suspect is a white guy suspected of that most dangerous of crimes: identity theft. Pursuit lasted 3 hours, much of it in a car before he abandoned that to steal the horse. Clearly not the brightest or most law-abiding dude, but the video is pretty clear: he's on his stomach with hands behind back and the immediate response from the two police is a kick to the head and a kick to the groin respectively.

Information from the press (local NBC affiliate):
"The group surrounding the man grew to 11 sheriff's deputies.

In the two minutes after the man was stunned with a Taser, it appeared deputies kicked him 17 times, punched him 37 times and struck him with batons four times. Thirteen blows appeared to be to the head. The allegedly stolen horse stood idly nearby.

The man did not appear to move from his position lying on the ground for more than 45 minutes. He did not appear to receive medical attention while deputies stood around him during that time."

Anyway, regarding Walter Scott in South Carolina: dash cam video released earlier showed he was pulled over because his third brake light was out. Meaning the one in the center, not L or R. Under SC law, one brake light is enough to be legally in the clear.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

They showed this on the morning news in Toronto today. It was pretty crazy.

Another incident. How is it legal for a 73 year old Insurance executive to be in the police? I am not familiar with the American legal system in detail, but this seems wrong.

It is wrong. But it's legal and he's rich, so he gets his way.

The one cop gives a pretty succinct summation of the police response to the "I Can't Breathe" protests though, huh?

Why on earth would someone of that age be a part of a patrol? Surely there'd be some sort of mandatory age where the job shifts to a more administrative capacity? America, you confound me.

He's not a real cop though. You can tell because he said "I'm sorry".

And, yeah, that makes me so very, very sad.
