There is one final theory about the Stormriders proffered in Assail, but it's not an answer so much as just one more log on the fire.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Oh well, headcanon it is I suppose.
By the way does anybody have a description of the Stormrider mounts or know where in it is? I forget what they are said to look like exactly and the fan-art seems to range from horse-like to sea serpents.
