Massive debate in the tea hut there.
I proposed that yes, Suarezs actions count as assualt, and as such 4 months is a lenient ban, however I insisted FIFA and the worlds FAs need to be uniform on this. So Pepe should be banned for.months next time he punches someone, or kicks someone on the ground. Racism should be a mandatory blanket ban for any player. My problem with this saga is the double standards

eta - common response was, 'aye but he bit him'
'yes, but pepe repeadetly kicked and stamped a player on the ground then punched him, why wasn't he banned for several months?'
'aye but... He bit him like '

I think what Macros says about consistency is true and also the more severe the punishment to the player and the club will mean less of a culture where things like this happen quite a lot. ie the club loses a player and they therefore taker harsher steps to avoid that happening again.

So excited - come on Chile! I think they're the most entertaining team at the WC (and the one four years ago) - they basically sprint for 90 minutes and attack with what seems at least five players at all times. Now if only they were better at actually finding the target...

Why are the Brazil squad growing pimp/paedo moustaches? Fred, Julio Cesar, Luis Gustavo all have them.

In other news, fantastic match so far.

Gutted Chile went out on penalties. Mildly made up for by the fact that Brazil are my sweepstakes team.

Wow. Need more of these penalty kick shoot outs at the end. (Newer fan) That was as much fun as the rest of the game. Was so hoping to watch Brazil lose after reading that stat about them having not lost a competitive home game since 1975.

Picture of world class players: Has Lampard and Gerrard on it. Ok. Maybe for World Cup 2008.

World Cup 2008? I must have missed that one. Did England win? :)

It was hosted by North Korea and Kim Jong Il won singlehandedly.

2006/2008 same thing, y'know?

Two goals of immense quality from Colombia yesterday. One piece of individual brilliance, another made by team brilliance.

But the best moment of the game has to be this:

Uruguay are world class foulers. Always have been. It's why they are Captains of the Cards.

It would have been really amusing to see the Uruguay team play the Dutch in an elimination type game. Just to see the terrible sportsmanship when one of them is losing.

I was so grateful that the Aussies gave the Dutch a real taste of their own medicine. No need for it when you have their level of talent.

you may be able to guess which team i want to see win from the Mexico-Netherlands game.

Costa Rica- Greece is a game i have no real opinion on, so as long as it's a good game I'm happy.

Torn on this game as I don't really want The Netherlands or Mexico to go out - I have enjoyed watching both teams immensely. Hope Costa Rica destroy Greece later as I would like them to get far!

Fuck I hate Robben. You should be allowed to kick him as hard as you like. Disgusting diver.

Man, the Mexico coach was heated..... wagging his finger in the face of the ref after the match ended.

I'm now officially rooting against the Dutch. That dive for the winning penalty kick was such bullshit.

He didn't need to exaggerate like he did, but in fairness it was a blatant foul.

I don't like it because there were several actual dives (that the ref didn't call, due credit), but Marquez definitely caught him.
