Alright, I've just finished a reread of HoC. I've read every book by both authors. I feel like I'm being stupid, but I just can't quite figure it out. Don't tell me to RAFO, I'm clearly too stupid for that. Someone please put me out of my misery. The unseen man and two women who saved Heboric from Korbolo Dom's assassins at the climax of HoC: who were they?

Ghosts of dead Bridgeburners summoned by Raraku and Kalam's presence in the Oasis.

We don't know precisely which dead BBs helped Heboric, but it appeared to be WJ and Detoran based on the dialogue.
A different BB ghost helped Kalam. That guy appeared in NoK.

There's no guarantee that they were BBs, but the way they talk and reference Korbolo does make them sound very much like at least some kind of Malazan soldiers. Since other BBs show up later to help Kalam, BBs is a fair guess. The woman that only grunts and says nothing else could indeed fit Detoran. Not sure where you get the WJ idea, Abyss - would WJ really make a cat pun?! Anyways, they could be virtually anyone and it is never outright stated with certainty.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

I'm guessing they were Bridgeburners, then, since I don't think there were other Malazan ghosts there except the ones who were on the Chain of Dogs. Might have been some we've never met, too, since like 95% of the Bridgeburners are dead by chapter 2 of GOTM.

Thanks guys. Finally I can sleep!

The male ghost calls the grunting female ghost 'lass' with a degree of familiarity, I don't think anyone else in the BBs would have the guts or confidence to call Detoran.

But that's all i got and it's certainly far from certain.

I was kind of thinking that it was Pearl and Lostara. The bridgeburner ghosts would make some sense I suppose but why would they help Heboric. He was known to be with Felisin and was the last part of the puzzle as to where the three of them were as they had found Baudins shell, and worked out about Felisin.
The lass thing seems like something pearl would say as they were constantly taunting each other.

Can't be. Lostara clobbered Pearl w a rock before she entered the oasis.
