The thing is - and this isn't a problem with Destiny specifically, or even necessarily a problem in Destiny at all - that camping is exactly how a sniper operates in real life.
Granted, most snipers do not take 25 shots from the same position. They fire once, maybe twice, and then move. Unless they're providing overwatch support for a team, in which case they probably don't move ever.
The problem with video games in this regard is a bit of a 50/50 issue. On the one hand, campers can be the most annoying SOBs in the game (then again, ask someone who has been engaged with a sniper how they feel about it, lol). On the other hand, killcams ruin any semblance of realism in terms of being able to hold a position. Heck, in Destiny, you can hardly miss a sniper due to the Lens Flare of Doom, but then you get shown exactly where they were a second later on killcam anyway. Again - not such an issue in Destiny where it's not really trying to simulate any form of recognisable combat anyway, but even so.
You throw in the fact that on any given map (especially in something like Modern Warfare or Battlefield games), snipers are operating at maybe 200m ranges (e.g. well within the sight range and effective firing range of modern infantry with carbines), in a square map maybe 500m sq, with only a couple of points that provide actual sight lines, and you're just not even trying to simulate snipers any more. It's a joke. 'Sniping' isn't even the right term for what the vast majority of video games depict, and there's no viable way to actually provide sniper support unless you're with a coordinated team.
At the end of the day, sure, if you put a Battlefield game in a 10km sq arena with open fields or city-style layouts, the one person playing a sniper would get 90% of the kills because, especially with the way video games scale images (remember, the TV has a warped field of view that is smaller than the actual vision you have - so everything is smaller by default), no-one would ever be able to see them or hit them.
But if someone in the game finds a spot that provides a good avenue of fire, and has a giant Lens Flare of Doom whenever you're looking at them, do they *really* need to be highlighted on the killcam as *well*? It's better than watching some guy strafing left and right between two walls and capping off shots every couple of seconds down a 20m hallway, isn't it?
*disclaimer - I get really frustrated at some campers too, especially if they're in one of those spots that is impossible to assault. I'm more venting at the fact that more 'realistic' *coughsplutterchoke* games really don't have any realism at all when it comes to snipers, to the point where I feel there just shouldn't be "sniper rifles" in most of them at all. Even Destiny doesn't really need them at the ranges you can engage targets, moreso in multiplayer.
