It's still worth it. It was absurdly overpowered before. Absurdly.

This is overall a good looking update all around, at first glance. Icebreaker didn't need more delay on the recharge though, and I'm a bit dubious about some of the other stuff until I've seen how it translates to gameplay.
Plus, there are some general design decisions in there that I still wonder about.

Anyway, I'll do a full post up tomorrow with my thoughts on PvP as a whole.

.... Oh, and if you haven't already watched today's Planet Destiny video on 'where to find Xur', do so. It's hilarious. More so if you've been watching this in the past but still. Also, what the hell, Xur? ;)

I missed Xur last weekend, so I'll be happy to go a'searchin for him this weekend.

Apparently it's a glitch, and they'll fix it.

Also; update:

We've determined we can't safely alter Xur at this time. He'll be back next week with a full inventory, including an Exotic weapon.

So, yeah. Sorry BK.

Yeah, it's a repeat of the issue with Eris. Becomes useless after you get one thing, lol.

I kinda feel like Bungie should maybe offer two Exotic weapons next week as a "sorry", but maybe that's just me. XD

Yeah I'm not sure if they show back up if you pick up the blades bounty but otherwise they've been patched out.

... In other news, my post about Destiny's flaws has reached 5,200 words. I'm not sure anyone is ever going to read the whole thing, lol. I haven't had the kind of dedication it takes to critique a game this much since the days of Morrowind and Oblivion - lol.

Bounties won't be a problem after 2.0 - they will have their own screen, more capacity, and will be able to be turned in remotely.

In the meantime, yeah, it's annoying as hell. XD

I recommend all Hunters to also get it. XD

It's a really cool gun, worth the title of 'exotic'. Fun to use, looks awesome, had Field Scout, and, well, yeah. Awesome gun, get it if you don't have it.

Xur has Patients and Time this week. I recommend to everyone that's not a Hunter to get this gun. It's got 3rd Eye plus you gain Invisibility when aiming down scope. I love this gun on my Titan.

I might make it my very first Exotic weapon. Haven't actually played the game in over a week, not because I didn't want to, but because the girlfriend and her sister have been monopolising the TV with day-long sessions of Civilization Revolution :(

IB returns next week! I'm really hoping for the new style helmets. New weapons would be nice to... I figured they would have made them along with new armor?

Now while I'm really hoping I hope we get some flight control and ship on ship pvp in one of these expansions. I mean what's the point of having all those guns and missiles shown to us? Please let me blow up another guardian at some point Bungie. Please! And can we go to outer solar system already??!! Ha random rant over

I would absolutely love it if you could actually do something with the ships.

I expect we're going to the Jovians in some form this expansion, BK. No guarantees but I think it will happen. :(

Also, the ships are clearly cut content. I think we were going to get Star Citizen lite, or at least have them play a bigger part, but it had to be dropped. :(

Maybe some day in the second year...

Honestly, I'm still disappointed. The game we were sold when Joe Staten was running things is not the game that we have today. Today's game is a poor imitation of that vision.

The PvE areas are smaller, the plot is a mess, etc. It sucks. And I'm blaming Activision because I just don't want to think it's something Bungie would do... XD

But yeah, gas giants are coming (heck, Xur comes from the Nine, we get numerous references throughout other parts of the game to the Jovians and the Nine, so it's just a case of when.

Yeah that's the thing, really. It definitely is a good game, and it sucks you in. But it could have been so much more...

On the note of PvP - I find it I interesting. Bungie seems to have made it appeal to a lot of new players. Personally I prefer the Reach multiplayer by a mile (though mostly because of the SWAT gametype...) and I think the Crucible is a mess. But it's proven super popular.
Though I suspect a portion of the population who like it (and are vocal about it) come from a PS background and never really got to play the Halo games long term. I can understand being amazed with it when you've only had killzone and battlefield to compare it to. XD

But they've definitely hit some home runs on getting people playing. That being said, I can feel the tide turning now that everyone is sick of Thorn and TLW dominating the game. Hopefully Bungie listens.

Haha, nice.

I'm not sure, but it's due to become backwards compatible with the One sometime. Of course, these days the movement won't feel quite as nice compared to Destiny but a friend and I fired it up the other day for some local co-op and it is still a fantastic game.

You can do 34 with two 34s or three 33s. It depends who you get.

Seriously. Campers with a sniper rifle. Do you not realize that it shows me who killed me and where you are? Like I don't care if you are in some fancy rock outcropping....the minute I spawn, I'm coming to take you out. I'm not even doing it with a grenade or hand cannon....I'm melee-ing that shit so you KNOW i mean business.

It never ceases to amaze me. Campers who spawn and pick the exact same spot every time. Like, I know you're there Chauncey! Lol

The thing is - and this isn't a problem with Destiny specifically, or even necessarily a problem in Destiny at all - that camping is exactly how a sniper operates in real life.

Granted, most snipers do not take 25 shots from the same position. They fire once, maybe twice, and then move. Unless they're providing overwatch support for a team, in which case they probably don't move ever.

The problem with video games in this regard is a bit of a 50/50 issue. On the one hand, campers can be the most annoying SOBs in the game (then again, ask someone who has been engaged with a sniper how they feel about it, lol). On the other hand, killcams ruin any semblance of realism in terms of being able to hold a position. Heck, in Destiny, you can hardly miss a sniper due to the Lens Flare of Doom, but then you get shown exactly where they were a second later on killcam anyway. Again - not such an issue in Destiny where it's not really trying to simulate any form of recognisable combat anyway, but even so.

You throw in the fact that on any given map (especially in something like Modern Warfare or Battlefield games), snipers are operating at maybe 200m ranges (e.g. well within the sight range and effective firing range of modern infantry with carbines), in a square map maybe 500m sq, with only a couple of points that provide actual sight lines, and you're just not even trying to simulate snipers any more. It's a joke. 'Sniping' isn't even the right term for what the vast majority of video games depict, and there's no viable way to actually provide sniper support unless you're with a coordinated team.

At the end of the day, sure, if you put a Battlefield game in a 10km sq arena with open fields or city-style layouts, the one person playing a sniper would get 90% of the kills because, especially with the way video games scale images (remember, the TV has a warped field of view that is smaller than the actual vision you have - so everything is smaller by default), no-one would ever be able to see them or hit them.

But if someone in the game finds a spot that provides a good avenue of fire, and has a giant Lens Flare of Doom whenever you're looking at them, do they *really* need to be highlighted on the killcam as *well*? It's better than watching some guy strafing left and right between two walls and capping off shots every couple of seconds down a 20m hallway, isn't it?

*disclaimer - I get really frustrated at some campers too, especially if they're in one of those spots that is impossible to assault. I'm more venting at the fact that more 'realistic' *coughsplutterchoke* games really don't have any realism at all when it comes to snipers, to the point where I feel there just shouldn't be "sniper rifles" in most of them at all. Even Destiny doesn't really need them at the ranges you can engage targets, moreso in multiplayer.

I have the day off, so I've been playing Iron Banner since it dropped, and have lucked out and been on multiple winning teams. IB rank already up by half.
