Amberlee is the only compelling reason to watch this show, as of one hour in. The rest of it is good fun though. I'll keep up with it because it's fantasy and it may improve once the story gets going.

Which is completely true! But you haven't thought this through, Worry, because EVERYONE knows that american opinions are utter shit. This means that canadian opinions are only 70% shit.

Things get better in the second hour character-wise.

This is why I lean towards socialism. My opinion should be shared by all.

I watched the first (double episode?) and I liked it I suppose. I struggle with it somewhat, and like it somewhat. It'll certainly watch a few more episodes, but they need to do something more.

Interesting points about the show here that I hadn't considered.

I have only seen the first double episode and based on that I wrote a brief review here: https://thecriticald...icles-mtv-2016/

But you guys are making me re-think it more in terms of its adaptation of the source material rather than just a fantasy show. But I felt it was really a mixed bag of good and bad.

I didn't really care that Allanon wasn't 7ft tall in this because I thought Manu Bennett was damn great. And I thought the scenes with him wielding magic and the mental battle with the Dagda Mor were pretty impressive.

But I wasn't as convinced by Poppy Drayton's or Austin Butler's acting in the first double episode. It seemed to have a lot of slack-jawed mouth-breathing. Whereas I did like Ivana Baquero's Eretria.

I am probably going to have to go back and read the books again because my memory of them is so hazy, but I am willing to give this a few more episodes to find its feet and see what they do with it.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.

I watched 3 and 4. They have the same problems and virtues as the first couple, but the content is more interesting overall. It's an unhappy medium between the popcorn goodness of the books and the dull, subpar writing of like Divergent (and I mean the movie, which was somehow inferior to the already middling book). It was nice to see the Stone Cold Stunner put to good use though. The visuals are still one of the best aspects...the overhead shots of the forest especially. And I think the elven guards in Arborlon are impressively intimidating.

I think my biggest problem with the show, so far. They aren't doing a great job showing us the conflict between Eventine and his sons. Arion and Ander just seem spoiled brats, not clueless that there is huge problem on the horizon. We need some flashbacks to the war of the Four Races, or some border skirmishes... something to cement the fact that the Princes have just cause to worry more about what is real instead of "magic and demons."

I got notes of it in the second episode (FURY) from the short convo where Arion basically lambasts Eventine about it, and growls at him "why should we believe any of this is as big as you claim when you lied to us about magic being gone". But you're right, it's not exactly as on display as it maybe could be to really give it wings.

I think the biggest hurdle will be when people realize that if this goes to Season 2, then that will be based on Wishsong and take place decades later and concern a whole new generation of characters...and a third season would jump to Scions which is what? 2 generations later...at least if it goes to 3 seasons, then they will have 3 more seasons of breathing room with the same set of characters.

I am pretty sure that Brook stated that this season is Eflstones in its entirety.

I also noted that the new "TV show" book covers featuring the show actors/production stills are on both Elfstones AND Wishsong covers. So that tells me that Wishsong is next season.

Fair enuf.

Good or bad or awful, I cannot wait to see what they do with Garret Jax.

I'm hoping that they get to do the Scions season so we can see Walker Boh. Plus I'd love to see a flashback to Jerle himself.

Yah Jax rules. My personal fave is Pe Ell though so I hope the show lasts long enough to give us him.

Upside: The combat boner you would get.

Downside: your eyeballs would melt from the sheer bodacity awesome.
