Yeah I was thinking the same, first pass might be useful, I'm not sure you need that upgrade to fight ancients or d'rek this go.

I was expecting twelve to pass this go, but now he hasn't placed the influence disc maybe he won't.

Research Positron Computer and flip 3 colonyships for science, please - it should come with a discount of -3, and +3 science gained --> 10 - 5 + 3 = 8.
That also gives me a discovery tile, please - any ships/orbitals/warp portals et cetera are deployed in my homeworld should I keep them.

so I'd be at 5 money (+8 income), 8 science (+6 income), 6 materials (+6 income) at upkeep -7.

Like you pointed out I used 2 colony ships to populate the orbitals that I forgot about.
I influence and remove the disk on the supernova. That means I have to return three cubes and all three went back to the player board
I reset 2 colony ships leaving me with three colony ships to use
I place another influence disk on the supernova and populate 3 slots using my last three colony ships.
Why would I want to influence 304 when I can't populate any of the planets without using another influence action?
I get the same number of resources but use one less influence disks to gain them.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Your Option B has a mistake. After I repopulate the grey planets with science I use up two more colony ships and that leaves me only one left. So I choose option B and use the last colony ship on the adv material slot on the supernova while we are at it.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.
